Unfortunately, it is a divorce that has to happen. There is no way Howson can't expect Nash to return to the team again. I understand that Howson would want to get players back that Columbus has control over for at least a couple of years. However, his bargaining position is compromised because of Nash's cap hit. - ravishingone
Howson could call a press conference and call his bluff. State that there is no interest in Nash during the last 6 months for anything remotely of fair value, and that the Jackets will proceed and plan on Nash playing in Columbus come opening night. If/when Nash expands his list to every team in NHL, we will double down our efforts to accommodate a trade.
How bad does Nash not want to suit up in Columbus? I think Nash blinks first. |

That's what I don't get. If he REALLY wants to go, he can't just give a list of 2-3 teams and say "That's it". |

I tend to agree. Howson has to do what's best for his team. And if that means Nash is still a Blue Jacket come opening night, so be it. What's Nash going to do, hold out and forfeit that check?

It's a well known fact that the Flyers draft the best player available, not by position of need. And I'm glad you have a crystal ball to see what their position of needs are 2-3 years down the road.
If you want to go with the consensus of what everyone on this site thinks, versus what the Flyers professional Hockey people think, then that's your choice.
A lot of analysts had Lidstrom rated where? Had Datsyuk rated where? Is what the analysts say definitive about a player? And what makes what the analysts say worth more then what the Flyers think? - MJL
Hmm, so you are now comparing the the Red Wings drafting against the Flyers. Frankly, that is the approach I would like to see the Flyers do. I'd rather see them reach for European players in the mid to later rounds than pick the Klotz's and Mathers of the world.
I'm sorry, but look at the Flyers record after the first round and it is pretty weak. |

Hmm, no I'm not comparing the Red Wings drafting against the Flyers. The point is that analysts don't get everything right, just as GM's don't. So what the analysts think of a player, doesn't mean squat!
I'd like to see the Flyers draft who they think is the right pick, and not choose a player based on his Country of origin.
And as I said previously, compare the Flyers record after the First Round with the rest of the League. And then you'll know if it is weak or not.

So Hyka came back to the Flyers after all.
Well sorta. |

Yandle vs. Suter is very interesting to me. One you have to give up cost, the other you sign but could be more pricy. My answer is simple. Yandle has experience in front of bryz. |

Hilarious that the Kings took him with the 6th round pick they acquired from the Flyers. |

Kings take Tomas Hyka at 171 ... with a pick acquired via the Flyers. |

Hopefully the Penguins overpay for Suter, while the Flyers sign Carle on the cheap. Shero will be played the fool once again, afterall everyone who states Suter isn't worth the money clearly knows something Shero and the other NHL GM's don't know. |

You are correct Howson has to do what is best for his team. However, I don't expect Nash to just be the good soldier and just come back this year. So yes, I think it is possible for him to hold out. I don't think it is unreasonable for a multi-millionare (assuming he has managed his money properly) to at least in the short-term sacrifice potential earnings which he will still get if and when he resumes playing because of the contract he signed.

The odds of him holding out are very slim. That doesn't serve any purpose. For him or the team.

Truth is the Penguins were gifted 4 top players. They drafted a couple good players, but they sucked so badly they had a lot of good opportunities.
The tide is turning. Crosby is an egg. Malkin may be better suited for a San Fran lifestyle. Neal and Letang are good but F the rest of the circus clowns in Pitt.
It is Philly and NY that is built for the future. The rest is just conversation. |
