Last post before I call it a night. I tend not to agree with everything Craig Button says, but figured this was relevant:
NHL Network's Craig Button on the Isles day
On Visnovsky trade: "I love it...I love what the Isles are doing. I love it.. I love it.. I love it.." "Second round pick next year? Way to go Garth Snow"
On Griffin Reinhart: "This young man might end up being the best player in this draft. He has got untapped potential. He plays the game at such a high level. Even though it does not appear he may not be the most intense guy, don't be confused, don't be fooled.. He can do anything the game requires, anything." |

i am a big fan of visnyosvy and always wanted him on the team for a long time. He brings alot to the offense and can play defense as well. He is definitely a upgrade over staois, pandolfo, or rolston. God knows that he is better than those guys combined. Reinhart is a great pick that some claim that might be the best player of the draft so that tells you alot. I strongly feel that we have one more trade to make in the second round. What time does it start and what channel? |

Consensus opinion from most Islanders fans who do not post on this site:
I still think Wang and Garth Snow are consulting Milbury for advice. I hate the trade. I hate the draft pick. I hate my life. I should hang myself.
Should we expect anything else? |

Here is another opinion of the trade:
Could someone please explain to me how the Islanders got Visnovsky from the Ducks for only a 2nd round pick?
I would like to see Garth try and make another trade either for a top 6 forward or another defenseman before the end of the day...maybe trade the 3rd pick... |

The Islanders had a very positive first day @ the Draft.
They added a defenceman that will help them this year and next year.
A top 4 guy!!!!
And quite possibly.... a defence that can be a top 4 for the next 15 years. |

I'm pretty happy with what was addressed yesterday.
Defense has been a big issue for this team for a couple of years and we're starting to stack that position nicely. Can't wait until Reinhart and Mayfield are both on this team...gonna be sick.
I'd like to see one of the smallish wingers that Chief was talking about drafted right away. Draft starts at 9? Seems a little early compared to other years... |

Still ton of talent left with all the off the board picks... I think we go forward after going D
And we could see a trade up from the 3rd round for Dansk |

Yikes...they didn't pick the guy I wanted but I still don't hate the pick. Most Isles fans wanted either Murray or Galchenyuk I think. Can't be mad at the Isles for not picking two players that were off the board. I'll tell you what, on first impression, if any team's fan base should be mad, it should be Calgary's. What the heck was that? - UIF
My favorite is IPB....if you feel like you're too happy this morning, simply visit that site....it'll turn that smile upside down...
Seriously....I wanted Murray, and failing that, I was kind of hoping we'd do something significant, like use it to trade for something really big time...until I listened to XM yesterday afternoon, and became convinced that Reinhart was the man.
I really didn't have any interest in Galchenyuk- he's another top-end center; where would he play? I kind of liked Forsberg, but I'm really more satisfied with the defenseman- especially since we were also able to add Visnovsky for nothing off the current roster. I just hope that if he plays well, they re-sign him early, instead of waiting until it's too late, as they may have done with Parenteau.....although I think, in that case, that P.A. simply wants too much money....it remains to be seen how well he'll play with someone other than Tavares, IMO.

Speaking of which, how many ended up at the draft party? Couldn't have been 17k, but was it a good turnout? |

About 6-7K, I'd say...mostly people on the floor, not paying attention to the draft at all....go figure. A lot of those in the seats left after the pick. Those things are OK, but they're designed for kids- the next two years, I'm going to the actual drafts in NJ and Philly. I prefer those, especially the second day, when the building is mostly empty, and only the REAL "draftnik" hockey fans are in attendance. |

Looks like Newsday puts the number at 9,247. Surprised that many people are still interested enough to head out to the coli in June for a draft party. Not a bad showing at all. |

I was at the party last night, only thing I can say is thank God next years is in Jersey so I can take that in instead. Now on the moves...
Visnovsky, not bad. I've seen him play alot over the years from when I lived in SoCal. But I feel we overpaid for him, not by much thou would rather it been a 3rd round pick.
Griffin Reinhart , Very pleased at first when I was there, kinda upset we didn't trade down but after seeing how the next 6 picks were all Dmen Garth did good for that round

A 2nd round pick for Visnovsky is fine...if the Islanders are out of the playoffs at the trade deadline he will be a good trade chip to either get the 2nd pick back or more. Also, it gives them a bridge so they don't have to rush deHaan, Reinhart and other defensemen in the system. - kear20
I think we will hold on to vis for next two seasons. We will not trade him. Since it is streits last season this year so vis will remain with us |
