pens fans are an absolute disgrace. i've never seen anything like this at a draft.
- hammarby31

That's pretty rich coming from Philly. Guarantee if the shoe is on the other foot its no different.

Its really nothing personal, we just don't like you. Kid just got a nice into to the rivalry.

I love how they had Shanny there to introduce himself....like "I'll be probably calling you in a few years. Just want to put a face with the name"

Scott Laughton becomes the first player in months to wear a Flyer jersey in Pittsburgh without scoring on Marc-Andre Fleury.

Which tells me they plan on dealing for a defensman.
- MBFlyerfan

Dominoes. And maybe plan on dealing a Center to get one?

Is this kid NHL ready?

flyers have a pretty good track record taking forwards in the early 20s, i wouldnt be so quick to trash this kid. how many of these guys have most of you actually even seen play?

I am actually VERY dissapointed they didnt take Maata. But Homers track record at the draft lately has been very good and I will give him the benefit of the doubt. The announcers seem to like the pick.

Go ahead and bookmark it ...Olli Maata is probably the most NHL ready D-man after Murray...can't pass that up ...not a smart pick at all
- broadstreet11

plenty of other teams passed on maata as well, maybe they don't like something about his game.
I just don't like this pick at all.

I believe you would be correct. I think this is the first move leading into a couple of others heading into July. Let's face it, the Flyers have done very well drafting forwards in the first round.

so this guy was so far above everyone on their board that they ignored desperate org needs at D an in goal?
- isaiah520

Flyers can't develop dmen. Nor do they have the patience. Would have been a wasted pick

I like the pick. Kid could be one damn good 3rd/4th liner and we have somewhat of a need there.

From the article:
A reasonable expectation next year, would be a point per game for Laughton.

he will stay consistently one of the toughest guys to play against in the OHL.

“What I hope to bring to the team next year is my grit, my leadership and how I play the game in both ends. I hope to contribute in any way I can whether it’s winning draws or penalty killing.”

If that's true then the other teams that picked other d-men made more grievous errors.

This. And when it happens to us, it will be great. We don't like you and you don't like us. Its the way it should be. Kid just got a great introduction to the rivalry.

I have no clue about this kid. But do you look to draft a 3rd/4th liner with the 20th Overall pick in the Draft? I would hope he has more upside then that.
