Yup
Gardiner is the first young player with REAL potential to hit this team since I was in (frank)ing diapers... And if you believe the hype Gardiner=Schultz (I do) so trading him would be beyond foolish.

- Mr_Smokey

Absolutely, if there is even a possibility Gardiner could help lure Schultz, we gotta keep him even just for that fact alone but than you factor in the potential the kid has....... scary.

If Schultz signed somewhere else and Jake had to be in a deal say for Jordan Staal who is a 23 year old franchise centerman that we need........ I could stomach that

But not a 28 year old 8 million dollar winger. No thank you.

Well the reason players avoid Toronto is because like you said, it's easier to play in non hockey markets where the temp is warm and 2, leafs management prior to Burke was an absolute joke and laughing stock of the league which is why we could never sign any big fish.

At least in the last 5 years Burke has brought respectability back to our franchise and shown future players we are trying to do things the right way this time around and build through youth.

In my opinion you'll never win with a player who can't handle a real hockey market anyways cause they usually suck under pressure in the playoffs, no offense to Marleau I actually like him somewhat.

More of a broad statement to the pussies who avoid toronto cause of the media circus

- Sheppy99

Kinda baffled by that statement! What has Burke done that impressed you so much? I believe you've drafted 7th, 2nd, 9th & 5th overall under him...of course a couple of those were traded for Kessel. What's so special that he's doing? IMO he's doing a terrible job in Toronto.

Yep, that was DW. I give him a lot of credit for the Boyle trade too. People forget about that.

Sharks get: Dan Boyle and Brad Lukowich

Lightning get: Matt Carle, Ty Wishart and 2009 first round pick (Kyle Palmieri)

Lukowich kind of sucked, but without Boyle, we don't reach the WCF either time in the last 3 years.

- sjsharks92

In retrospect Sharks killed on that too.. but trading 1st picks is always risky right

I like them but the biological clock is ticking there! IMO since there's no stud G unload Marleau and Thornton to some fool team like the Leafs and start rebuilding now

There are other quality pieces there

Thank you. I always tend to go the forgiving way because 1. Its the right way, 2. Often fixes things, 3. You feel better about it then holding a grudge.
- FLYERSROCK!

Exactly, I try to tell my buddy that but he seems to think holding a grudge is what tough people do. I told him know it's what weak female doges do cause they aren't man enough to forgive and move on with their lives

The way I see it.. why would Schultz, a young kid turn down playing on a pretty damn good team in southern California? Must be a pretty good reason .... he wants to play with Gardiner + BB has brainwashed him

Yes, exactly how I feel.

I believe our window for a cup has closed. Should we start rebuilding now, it will be a quicker and less painful process as we still have guys like Burns, Pavelski, Couture to keep the ship afloat while the younger talent begins to blossom. If we were to trade JT, Marleau, Boyle, Clowe, and/or Niemi, we'd get great return.

Look at our cupboard of prospects through every position multiplied by the fact we are the 2nd youngest team in the league who up until feb had a 5th spot in the conference well on our way to a playoff spot until nuclear meltdown city

We are one of the deepest teams in the league prospect wise on defense

Our goaltending position has two promising young prospects in Reimer and Scrivens

Forwards we have Kulemin, Kessel, Grabo, Lupul who are all under 30 and some well under 30

We have colbourne, Kadri, Frattin etc waiting to come up

Now obviously other teams may boast more than that but in comparison to what we had prior to Burke coming? It's something to be happy about as a Leaf fan

So true.

Sadly though, that appears to be the direction the Sharks are headed. And should we trade for Nash, it will only get worse.

I love your optimism bud but the Leafs have a 2 solid pieces and a bunch of question marks... if everything comes together it's a playoff team... at worst we are what we are drafting.

Vancouver makes a good argument as well though....... wants to be close to family and friends?

But who would want to deal with that epic travel schedule.......... barf

in comparison to what we had prior to Burke as far as youth? we didn't even have any youth to be question marks. Fack our farm team was almost as old as our NHL team most years and it was like we didn't realize the farm team is where your prospects played, not other 30 plus year old players who were playing out their careers
