This alcohol debate is not going to end well...
we should move on to another topic, such as another trade proposal and then people saying it doesn't make sense.

You can take ANY hockey team and find more of those genuinely nice guys that are great role models than in the NBA and NFL combined.

I'd also say that hockey players do much more work within their communities than baseball (obviously ignoring basketball and football)....

yeah, it might bring more logic in some of the proposals...but we all still would get a beat down.

You can have two players that play the same style on the same team. What I'm saying is that it's usually not for that kind of money, although I guess the Kings just went out and proved that to be wrong paying $25M+ for their top 6 forwards.

I see that deal as Schenn and Read for Ryan with Bourdon as the throw-in sweetner, much like Sbisa was. Ryan has managed to stay healthy and has shown good promise. Not that Schenn or Read haven't either. It comes down to how much you value having a top line forward to play with Giroux imo. There aren't a lot of guys out there that can do it without costing you a lot (salary cap wise). Which of those two would you give up to get Ryan (assuming you wanted him)? What do you think is a "good" management deal then?

- rockychocbill

For Ryan, maybe JVR and a pick. Not a first rounder. I'm definitely not giving up Schenn, who could very well turn out to be every bit as good of a player are Ryan is. And also giving up Read, who is a 25 goal scorer, as a Rookie, who can play in all situations. As well as a young defenseman who showed promise of being a full time NHL defenseman. Your not trading for Pronger here. Why do you have to throw in a sweetner? You're already overpaying with Schenn and Read.

Ryan for a 5.1 cap hit is pretty good, but you and I appear to be on the same page as I reguarding Ryan as a Flyer

Anything is better then the Prius.
- RooNosHockey

I don't mind the Prius, actually. I find it funny, though, how it jumps from a decent looking vehicle to an obnoxious mobile billboard with the addition of a coexist bumper sticker (EDIT: a vanity plate often also does the trick). Also, their owners often boast obnoxious levels only rivaled by Apple enthusiasts.

Bob Murray laughs at you for proposing that deal though. I'd do that deal in a heartbeat if it was even in the realm of possibility. JVR is now damaged goods. Every GM knows that, and would be taking a risk with him. JVR and a late 2nd or 3rd round pick is not getting that deal done and the Anaheim fans would be calling it "bad" management if Murray took it.

Read was a 25 year old rookie surprise. Maybe he continues on that, maybe he doesn't. Lots and lots of players have done what he did last season only to go on and not duplicate it again. I've already stated my opinion on Schenn. He "could" be a real beauty for sure. Bourdon did show promise but also struggled. I'd be happy finding another Grossmann to replace him too.

It comes down to you gotta give to get and we just don't happen to agree on Ryan's value here and that's cool.

I'd feel better at something like 4.5, but if he syncs with Giroux like I/we think he can, then the 5.1 is worth it imo.

JVR isn't damaged goods. His injury isn't chronic or permanent. And a GM would have the opportunity to have his Medical records looked at and passing a physical as part of the deal. Read is a good player, make no mistake about it. What young defenseman doesn't struggle in his rookie year. You don't make bad deals because you think a player might not progress from the previous Season. Nor do you give up a young defenseman as a "throw in" because he struggled at times.

Your right we don't agree on Ryan's value. If Holmgren made that deal, I'd immediately call for his head on a platter. That is a drastic overpayment for Ryan.
