And the goalie market shrinks by one. Can you say Luongo? RT @mirtle: Josh Harding re-signs with the Wild on a multiyear deal.

The market is shrinking...

Quite simply, no.

Disagree, brule would be a nice addition to the third line. Limited offensive upside but he hits, plays hard and can play wing and be had for cheap.

Imagine a third line of brule/Higgins/Hansen.....they'd be hell to play against....

Edit: too too sucks....

Too moody. He's the difference maker in one game, invisible the next. He'll need to play with the Sedins in order to be effective. No thanks.

Agreed, I really hope this isn't one of MG's targets in free agency, especially since he usually gets who he wants in July, being a former agent and all.

I think if we are going to have an undersized forward it will be Parenteau or Schroeder , not Brule or Hudler.

I'd prefer Shroeder to be given that chance. Brule stunk it up in EDM and suddenly found value in PHX in a tight, defensive system. When he's healthy he's a decent depth player but on the UFA market his price won't be in line with the modest value he brings.

If we're going for depth, I'd much prefer bringing in some nut crackers (eg Kenopka, Carkner, Jansen, etc).

That would be decent line as long as Brule's two way game has developed, this has to be weakest group of FA's centers in quite awhile. I think Gilis might look at the trade route or we'll see one of Manny/Lappy back as third line center.

Brule was a beast one the Giants but injuries and the CBJ 'development' system have destroyed his promise. I'd offer a PTO and see where he is at in camp, but that's about it. He's not the player he could have been.

Considering it came from Eklund I'd say we're safe.

It looks like we will agree to disagree.

Brule has always played physical and bigger than his size, going back to his junior days, I wouldn't mind him if he's become a decent two-way player under Tippet. I agree though, if we're talking second line then I'd prefer Schroeder. Paranteau isn't worth 4mil+ IMO and that's what he's going to get. I'd rather give Schroeder a shot, more cap flexibility that way too if MG wants to make a big splash during the summer or trade deadline.

I don't think Gillis has any interest in Brule (look at Kyle Turris) Hudler or a 4 Mil Parenteau. Everything I have heard coming out of insiders and management is that they want to get bigger.

Reality Checker asked me what kind of offer would I make Ryan Smyth? We both agree his time in EDM is coming to a close . We are close to where he lives and he wants to play close to home. He would be a better option than Brule on the third line .If you can get him 2yr/2.8 per.Higher than 3 I would not go after him.

I'm actually hoping we go the trade route, even if it means giving up assets to fill holes. This FA market could get a little crazy. I would try filling the second line forward spot through a trade and try to improve the bottom 6 with a depth signing or two with guys like David Moss, Adam Burish, Tom Kostopoulos, Brandon Prust, Arron Asham, Joey Crabb, etc.

I think so too . Trades are a better way to go as long as it is not for Komi.

With Lindback and now Harding off the market, I'm starting to think Luongo will actually bring back a solid return. Toronto isn't the only team out there that needs a goalie and I've heard that Bernier won't be dealt until Quick is locked up and CBJ really wants Bernier as well.

I'm sure both player wouldn't mind it at this point, Ballard probably wants to go back to the States though. I could see Komisarek actually bouncing back with a fresh start, especially since AV prefers bigger defensemen(just ask Ballard and Rome).

What do we "know" so far?

Islanders interested in Ballard.

Various east coast teams have expressed interest in Raymond.

Lou to T.O looking more and more promising

Stall, Kane, Salvador, Pitkanen and Schultz have been connected to Vancouver.

If Gillis gets his stuff together this could be a very interesting off-season...
