OK, how about this.
I'm a bazillionaire. I need a pickup truck for the next 6 years. After that 6 years, I may or may not need that pickup truck anymore.
The truck lot will only sell me a pickup truck with a 10 year contract.
But as I stated before, I'm a bazillionaire. So I couldn't really care less. I'll happily make the reasonable payments for six years, and at the end of six years, decide whether or not I want to keep driving the truck.
And if I decide I don't want the truck anymore, I'll drive it down to the Ricoh Centre parking lot, and park it there, where it will remain for the next four years. And I won't give a rat's arse about it. If my cousin Jimmy wants to drive it, great. If it gets stolen, great. I really won't care. I'll continue to make payments for the final four years of the contract, because it's just money, and I don't care about a measly $7 million dollars - it's just money, and it doesn't count against the spending cap my wife holds me to. I won't ever have to buy out the truck, because then my wife will hold those buyout payments against my spending cap. But if it sits in the Ricoh parking lot, it doesn't count against the cap. It's just money. And I'm a bazillionaire, so money means absolutely nothing to me.
So I get to use a truck for six years, which I need, and then at the end of the six years, I can either keep using the truck, or completely forget about it. Either way, it's just money - and I don't care about money.
Does that help? - Atomic Wedgie
...but why buy a used, beaten, slow, old truck when there are plenty of peppy, shiny, new ones?

Well, I actually think this truck could do a pretty good job for the next four or five years.
And I'm not sure that I agree that there are plenty of peppy, shiny new ones.
New? Yes.
Able to do the job I need them to do?
Probably not. |

you just need to get from A to B with it.....stop being so needy and drive the two decent ones you already have. |

Actually a 3rd line center and knows his role...sometimes you trade for guys based on how they can help your team not because of what the back of their hockey card say's.
Has decent hands and can fight who's our 3rd or 4th line center that's doing that and scored 14 goals last year with 100 Pims |

Something tells me it will pick up again, can't wait for Friday but most of all to have the picks made, then the dissection of the chosen begins. |

I can't wait to log on Saturday afternoon, and get into a heated debate as to who Toronto should select with their 5th round pick. |

That's fair your projection of how good and valuable Cody Franson is on the open market is a little higher than Zack Smith.
I know you want to use him in your trade for Staal or Getlaf |

easy tiger.
a young, potential top 4 or 5 dman with size, and mobility has more value than a 4th line plug.
sorry, it's just a fact.
nothing against smith, i would love a few more guys with a chip on their shoulder, but what you see is what you get. |

His ceiling is most likely a 3rd line center but actually plays his role.
Can I ask what your ceiling is on Cody Franson with the Leafs.
Who's your 3rd line center for Toronto next year and does he bring more to the table than Zack Smith.

So what are POTENTIAL 4 or 5 D-man going for these days....I'd say about guys like Smith, Foligno, Jay Mclement types...he played for Colorado so you don't have to look him up |
