Play Reimer and Scurvy and see if they are actually any good.
I'm sure Lunogo will be around next year and probably sad and wanting a trade still. Grab him then for the 1st overall or something. - robin_steele264

Question for anyone who can help me out here..
If we were to have a complete full year lockout, how would next years draft work?
i cant seem to remember what happened last time there was a lockout what happened |

Youre assuming that a) Reimer or Scrivens pan out b) Leafs management has total faith in them c) they wont be dealt for other assets
I dont know what Burke wants to do. I just know he wont get Luo for nothing... - chompsey
I'd rather be without a goalie in a year or two and looking for other options when our team is still rebuilding than without a goalie in 5 years when the rebuild is potentially over and we could of had Reimer or Scrivens in their prime at that time.
Luongo is just a band aid while our team keeps on the rebuild train. If this was our final piece for a cup run, than this would be a different story. |

harding seems to be allright, but i think the team can do better. with the amount of middle tier talent within the system that can be expendable, there's bound to be the right situation around the league somewhere, where a decent 25-27 goaltender can be had without the arm, and leg. - joel878
You're not going to find a 25-27 year old goalie who's proven without giving up an arm and a leg. The cheaper solution is a veteran who is getting on in years and has proven he can do it in the past but may benefit from a decreased work load which would also benefit Reimer and Scrivens.
Bringing in another cheap 25-27 year old goalie isn't going to be much of an upgrade over what we have |

They would project that all the canadian teams would still suck balls with the exception of Vancouver and possibly the sens and draw the rest of the names out of a hat for top 5 picks |

Sounds to me like Tomas Vokoun would've been the perfect fit for Toronto. Wonder if Burkie pursued that at all. |

Here's the thing though, Vancouver makes the playoffs either way. So their season isn't riding on making a deal with Toronto (or anyone for that matter), it would just be nice and give us room to improve. Toronto has their work cut out without a #1 goalie so the weight is mostly on Toronto management to decide whether they're willing to take a serious and committed shot being a playoff team in a somewhat difficult division. |

Out of curiosity, what do you guys think the Leafs would offer the Sharks for Niemi? Sheer speculation obviously, but just curious as to what you guys think. - sjsharks92
I suggested trading with you guys before and almost got butt raped. I suggested Niemi and Couture for our 5th overall, Kadri, Schenn and Reimer. |

it's a fine line.
i think there'd bound to be a goaltender around who isn't going to cost the first rounders and gardiner type prospects, but is experienced enough to bank on. i don't see either reimer or scrivens being a game stealing starter for years to come at this level.. i just don't.
i'm more than willing to invest the time to find out, but at the same time, bringing in a veteran does nothing. if neither pans out in 2-3 years, and the rebuild has progressed to the point the team is competing, all of a sudden we have two broken prospects and a goaltender off to the glue factory.
i'd rather be setting pieces to back this issue up now, rather then be desperate for a goalie when the team is finally competitive. |

Yeah, I think he would of been too....... and it makes me mad when these goalies get traded for next to nothing when they woulda been good fits in Toronto
Ben Bishop last year when he got traded to the sens for a second or a 3rd. I would of done that deal all day long if I was Burke |

I apologize for anyone who gave you a hard time for that. As far as I know, most Sharks fans are very open to getting rid of Niemi.
Personally, I really like that offer. We're probably a little worse off for the present, but it would certainly jump start our inevitable rebuild.
If I were the GM of the Sharks and had that proposal on the line, I'd probably pull the trigger. But that's irrelevant. |

god no. the only reason we shouldn't draft with that pick is if it's feasable to trade up and draft higher. the leafs need to draft some top end talent. |

I Imagine the same way as 05.
Something like every team starts with 3 balls in the lotto. For every time you made the playoffs or had the first overall pick in the last X years (I think its 3.) A ball is subtracted to a minimum of 1 ball. |

I pretty much agree with you 98 percent. The only thing I disagree on is the age you're looking for an upgrade at. A 25-27 year old goalie is pretty much what Scrivens and Reimer is right now and trying to get a goalie who is proven better than two up and comers means giving up something decent in return. I just don't know how you get a proven goalie that young without it costing a lot
A proven goalie who is 34 plus would be a lot cheaper. LIke a Martin Biron type of guy

Good to hear. I honestly think you guys could go for it again. That trade you made for Burns burnt eh!
Vice versa for you, anything you like/would trade for out of Toronto? |
