i think he meant the Zharkov from the draft? but if not i agree with you. - K-dizzle
Even then, first year player. Late first rounders usually need some more development.
Are these Zharkov's related? Anybody knows? |

Yeah i agree i feel like all players need a few years to develop. Rarely players can make the jump like Larsson.
They could be might be why Lou could draft him too.. Cause theres a few Zajac's in the minors and he got Stephen Gionta and Jordan Parise.

Larsson did a great job of learning on the fly during the season. He's going to be a special player.
Lou is good to the family of players. Jordan Parise was in the minors for us for a little bit too. Doesn't hurt the team at all to have siblings in the minors and shows a vote of confidence to the big league players that the organization is trying to take care of them. |

Devils have over 28 million, which gives us more than enough to resign the players that Lou may keep, Parise, Salvador, Brodeur, fourth line. Now we would have probably around 12 million if they are resigned.
So, I was on TSN reading the comments and a player that I have completely forgot would do well in Jersey with Parise. Paul Statsny. So, would you do this trade:
To NJ:
Paul Statnsy
Rights to Jay McClement
To Colorado:
1st this year
Zubrus/A-Train
Urbom
Or something of this magnitude. |

Hell no regarding Statsny. Big contract for under performing player. |

He's scored 20 goals every year besides one, that's five out of six, and at least 50 points in those five of six years. Put him with Parise and that point total goes up at least 20. |

Don't have a way to predict how his point total will increase so that's a moot point. What I can see is a player with a $6.6 million cap hit getting less than 60 points for the past two season. |

Think of it like this, Zubrus is making 3.4 mil this year, the last year of his contract. He got 44 points last year and has only gotten 40 points twice in the 5 years he's been with us. If Zubrus were to be traded, really the Devils would be paying 3.2 mil of Statsny's contract, the difference between the two's contracts. And you get a younger guy that can naturally center Parise, plus he has had no one in Colorado to complement his play, like a Parise or Kovalchuk. |

But that's assuming that either contract was good plus you're stuck with Statsny another year if it doesn't turn out.
Also, highly doubt Colorado does that trade seeing that they are really thin at center and are really far from the cap floor. |

Yes i meant Daniil.
And keep Parise with Zajac. If you're looking at center then it has to be for the 2nd line center role with Kovy and Statsny is far too much $$$ for that.

i think Daniil Zharkov's size might allow him to play in the NHL right away. He'll realistically probably get a couple years to season, but you never know. |

Yeah, but next year we have even more cap than this year, especially when Elias' 6 million contract comes off.
I know we have to resign Zajac, Henrique, Elias, Josefson, and Clarkson next year, but with Elias' cap going down, than he'd fit in.
As for Colorado, no offense, but they could use a A-train or Urbom because they really got nothing on the back end. Plus, they get a first round pick, which they gave up for Varlamov for the next two drafts. 2 first rounders.
I'm just saying I would do that. And if it doesn't work out than he's a free agent and we basically gave up nothing for him. To me, thats a low risk high reward. |

Could always throw in Henrique on the Second line. But to me, I think we need Statsny, I'm sorry but I think we need him. And there's only three forwards that I would go after in free agency, Ray Whitney, Mike Knuble, and Zenon Konopka. |

I like Konopka, but no way do we need Konopka, Clarkson, Janssen, and Boulton. (frank) that. |

Also, i dont see Lou trading NHLers. THey just went to the SCF. That locker is tight. If he moves a player, it will most likely be an AHLer. Just saying. |

Throw Henrique on the second line, but then what about Zajac? We don't need a $6.6M center. I agree with the PawnStars guy, and he doesnt even like me.

Janssens a free agent don't resign him. Boulton misses more time than being in the line up and with the fourth line would miss even more time. Konopka is a good centerman, which we could us on the fourth line |

I meant that put Henrique on the second line if Statsny wasn't with us on that particular situation. What he had as the lines. At this point, Statsny is a better centerman than Henrique. Which would give Henrique two years to get better at face-offs. |

Well, he's probably gonna be trading someone at next year's deadline, so might as well get a head start. |

No to Stastny. We have a Stastny in Zajac.
Henrique and Josefson will continue to improve and be solid 2nd/3rd line centers for us. If not, we have the Elias option. We need to remember both of these kids were basically rookies this year.. and got a ton of great regular season/playoff experience. They'll come back a lot smarter and hopefully stronger.. tho idk if they'll have much time for that since its such a short offseason.
The biggest question is what we do on D with Salvador. We can speculate forever but it just comes down to what Lou wants. We'll be fine with him, we'll be fine without him. Tallinder was great coming into the CUP FINALS after a 4 month layoff. That was encouraging.
I have no problem with..
Tallinder-Zidlicky
Greene-Fayne
Volchenkov-Larsson
Harrold
I think the kids should continue to develop in Albany. Urbom, Gelinas, Merrill I think will all be 2nd paring Dmen at worst. A case could be made to send Larsson down, resign Salvador, and call him up when we have an injury. Idk.
Salvador will be around 2-3 mil and we may not have the extra depending on what Lou does. Volchenkov is younger than Salvador and I think he's a fine shutdown dman. Some say he's slow etc.. but he does his job well when he's playing his game. I thought he was solid in the Finals. The biggest void felt from Salvador's departure will be in leadership. He really emerged as the leader of the D, and a leader that we've been lacking on D.. although I remember hearing that White embraced that role in past seasons.
we were in the Finals and pushed it to an unjust game 6. I'm proud of this team and this franchise. I hope everyone is. |
