good point.. if you are going to take a gamble anyways, might as well gamble on something the leafs need - Dozzer
It's the same thing with Grigorenko. Everybody says he is talented beyond belief but he only plays when he wants to. Well, that sounds like Viktor Kozlov and Kozlov was a 2nd liner. Not because of the talent but because of the work ethic. Then the question becomes, what do you want, a talented, lazy 2nd liner or a hard working 2nd liner? You look at successful teams lately and they all have hard working, two-way centers with size. That's Faksa. |

And because Dumba is such a risky player, he could be a 2nd pairing defender instead of a 1st pairing defender. See how easy that is to do? You want to limit Faksa's potential, I can limit Dumba's. The difference is that Faksa is what we need. - Unholy_Goalie
No, Galchenyuk is what we need. A trade up is the answer, not a trade down. Outside of Gardiner, everyone else is available. People who want to move Gardiner also must realize that it would nullify any chance of getting Schultz. On Faska, the only way we trade down, is if we get a pick around 8 and another pick in the first round. Washington comes to mind, at 9(Colorado's) and the later pick of their own. That may be doable, but I think Faska goes at 8 to Carolina. |

2 way centres with size are a major organizational need for the leafs without question
thats exactly why i said to you a few days ago.. i would love it if burke could swing a deal to land him a pick that would allow him to grab both faksa and gaunce..
strong two way centres with size
it would immediately upgrade the leafs talent pool depth at the centre position |

A trade down would get us some more picks. Why do we need another d prospect? Trade down, take Faska and keep the rebuild going. |

The ship to acquire a player like Galchenyuk has most likely sailed. To move up and get him would cost a fortune. Their best bet is to make responsible, safe picks and hope to get a better pick next year, in a deeper draft too. |

If you could do that, yea... but, say you trade with Washington for 11th and 19th... how do you know either will still be there? |

he won't even do that. He'll one player comparison from one report, ignore everything else, and build his opinion based on that. - Schenn-Sational!

I'm surprised he hasn't brought up Subban's personality issues as a slight to Dumba yet.
oh poop, he's looking.

We've been over this. Columbus and Montreal need him just as bad if not worse than the Leafs do. Absolutely no way they give that up unless you grossly overpay for it. And you say Gardiner is untouchable? Well, that's the kind of overpayment those teams want to make a deal.
So take your pick, give up Gardiner and trade up for Galchenyuk or keep Gardiner, trade down a little, get more picks and draft high again next year? |

makes sense really. address organizational depth issues, and allow the players to compete with each other for positions on the depth chart.. would push them to reach their ceilings rather than not have anyone in the system challenging for their spot on the prospect depth chart |

Cute how you think the Leafs will tank next season.
Sorry UG, but just because you want them to tank, doesn't mean they will. |

Our biggest need is Grade A prospects. We're not going anywhere, until 1st line centre is filled. Some will say goaltending, but I don't think that it's as bad as most people think. Shore up the Defence, plug up the centre position, with a Grade A prospect and then you may consider moving forward. |

not necesarily
he is saying that there will be too crowded a market to trade up this year due to the lack of certainty in the prospect pool
so his argument is, draft well.. perhaps even drop back to gain a pick, and play the youth and if they dont suceed its not as big a deal.. the youth would gain experience and they get a nice high pick in a prospective deep draft |
