There was something going on. One time I was involved in an incident as a third party. The investigator told me that in cases of your word against theirs most of the time things are dismissed. However when an investigator can identify a pattern in the accussed's behavior, (Example an employee is moved from workplace to workplace in different regions for an organization and every where they go, there are sexual harrassment complaints, then those complaints have a substantial validity.) and there has been an established pattern on rumor reporting on those two players. - JoeRussomanno
If the Flyers traded one of those players I would believe it more that nothing was going on. When they deal both players, a red flag comes up in my mind. |

I think it's unfair to judge both players to different standards. I have no doubt that Carter was unhappy in Columbus and he had every right to be unhappy there. - MJL
I understand and agree that it's unfair about judging players to different standards however I'm not. One guy struggled in the beginning of the season, the other one struggled or failed to produce at a high level in the second half. Being that I saw that same player struggle in the second half here leads me to believe that it's not about playing on a new team for him.
If you don't doubt that Carter was unhappy there I don't know how that is supporting the character he showed. |

What agenda does the media have against them in different parts of the country though? - JoeRussomanno
None. Richards is a well respected player in LA. All of sudden Richards lost his sense of entitlement, stopped drinking, decided to play hard every game, wore the right hat, shown up on time for team functions, all on the plane to LA when he was traded? |

evidence of the habit of a person, whether corroborated or not, is relevant to prove that the person's conduct on a particular occassion was in confirmty with such habit. |

I think it's the same for both players in the adjustment to a new team. Same standards for both players. Don't understand what your saying with Carter. |

that's where things get interesting for me. why did they trade both? Would it not work for Richards to be here without Carter? Wouldn't that have sent a message? One implication is that Richards would have soured further if Carter was traded. The other is that the Flyers just really liked what was being offered. |

So we should listen to the biased agenda driven media instead? I beleive and judge people by the facts that are known. And not by rumour, speculation, and hearsay. - MJL
Do you have proof that the media is biased or has an agenda? I don't see it. Why would the media be out to get Richards or Carter? How would it benefit the media to lie about them? Do you know why there are so many stories, in the media, about what a great guy Ian Laperrier is? Because he's great guy. |

Stranger things have happened. Maybe he did have a wake-up call going there, maybe not. I do seem to remember hearing reports about a divided locker room in La due to his presence. |

It is the same but the adjustment period doesn't happen in the second half of the season it happens when you first get there, as in the case of Bryzgalov, it's been noted a number of times in this very blog thread how he was one the better goalies in the second half in contrast to his first half. |

Yes you did, you minimized Carter's value to the Kings while stating that Couturier and Voracek were huge positives for the Flyers.
- MJL
----------
Here's what I said
I'll point out that the Blue Jackets didn't seem to benefit at all from trading for Jeff Carter. If he's such a big factor and one of the winning chips the Flyers traded away, then why didn't the Jackets improve by adding him? Carter was only seen as a plus once he was on a solid team like L.A., so obviously his winning the Cup had a lot more to do with the team he was ultimately on versus his own individual value on a given team, whether it was the Flyers or some other. Meanwhile, there is no question that the addition of Couturier and Voracek were big positives for the Flyers. - phantasm
I stated that Carter's winning of the Cup had a lot more to do with the team he was traded to than his own individual value to his team. You read into that and inferred that I was minimizing Carter's role on L.A. I did not do that. |

Comparing Bryzgalov to Quick and "sticking with them" doesnt mean much when Bryzgalov is 31, soon ot be 32 and Quick was 24 and 25 in '10,'11.
Quick was still developing, Bryzgalov is pretty much at the stage of his career where you know what you are going to get. - deader2818
Bryzgalov is still in his prime and eminently capable of a hot run in the playoffs. He was actually pretty good in the New Jersey series this year.
People forget that he suffered a chip fracture in his right foot in late March (when he was NHL Player of the Month) and it was definitely still affecting him in the Pittsburgh series.
Bernie Parent never won a single playoff series until the Flyers' first Stanley Cup win (when he was 29 years old) and, in fact, had been pretty bad in his playoff appearances until then.
As the HHOFer himself once said, "That can't win in the playoffs stuff is BS. If you can do it all season long, you can do it in the playoffs, too."
Put a healthy Bryzgalov in LA's net this spring and Quick in Philly's with the teams otherwise exactly the same, and I still think LA might have won the Cup and the Flyers would still have lost to the Devils.

The Flyers completed 2 great trades. To get 4 very good young guys for 2 and save 4 mil in cap space as well is a no brainer. Homer knew that G needed to be a 1st line center this year in order to take that next step. In addition, those guys had been through 3 coaches. What is the saying "You can't fire the team"? Well Homer didn't want to fire another coach, so he cleaned out the problems. All the speculation as to drinking, drugs, partying is all irrelevant. |

I don't understand how that guy can just say Bryzgalov didn't play well. Did he struggle at times here, yes no one is arguing that. Was he the reason their season didn't continue, no. Also he finished the season under his career average Goals against average. Furthermore he was player of the month in the biggest of Regular season months. Could he have better yes. Was he an utter disappointment I'm leaning towards no. |
