i dont really follow what youre saying but i was showing how you said just yesterday "If there is one team you never have to be fearful of losing your job due to failure it would be the NY Islanders” today you said “everyone is abandoning ship” but no, they aren’t….they are all being fired!! youre refusing to realize the reality of the situation.

Thats not true. Just this past year, Jack Johnson was traded. Its definitely doable, its just a matter of when Garth decides its time to do so. To me, Anders Lee should be untouchable. From what I saw at prospect camp, he's exactly what the isles dont have. He's a true power forward.

I will admit im not up on the draft prospects, but without any knowledge of anyone, i still say the isles are better off right now, adding NHL talent.......top 3 dman, and possibly a top line winger to play with JT. Adding those two things, with the additions of DeHaan, Donovan, Katic, and maybe a UFA signing, the isles should make the playoffs.

if anders lee is untouchable....who do you consider "touchable"? (cue the perverted comments)

Jack Johnson was moved in a package for Jeff Carter, a pretty significant piece going back the other way. None of the Isles' prospects are of that ilk at this point. I guess its all about who were talking about. its hard to say "yes" or "no" to trading #4 overall when you don't know who it is that is coming the other way.

I don't think any prospect of the Islanders is "untouchable". It doesn't seem that Lee even wants to sign with the Isles. The only guys in the organization that are probably untouchable are JT and Hamonic. I think everyone else is available for the right price, and they should be. No sense being closed-minded.

It would be a good thing if he decided to be a GM, I said that on the day you posted it(didn't Dee write a blog?)I believe?
- Cptmjl

I don't consider trading away important assets when you don't have very many being a "good GM". In fact I consider that "being Mike Milbury". And when I say "don't have very many good assets" I'm going back two or so years when our prospect pool was not as deep and good as it is currently.

If Murray is available at 4 the Isles better be getting a special dman if they are trading the #4 in a package.
- ses111

Exactly. Real special d-man.

Anders Lee to me would have to get a really juicy return, as i see him as one of our better prospects. I would trade anyone, for the right price is what i should have said. Untouchable wasnt the right word....

A paper in Germany reports they want to sign Katic, but for now he's a RFA who needs a qualifying offer the Monday after the draft.

Do not want to see this franchise lose Katic.

You have to part with assets sometimes to get a player to help your team. Whether it be a pick or a prospect. What "assets" do you think other teams will be interested in for their 2nd line center and 1-4 Dmen(besides the fourth pick of course)?

I hear what you're saying but you were saying "It is nearly impossible to sign or trade for guys like that. The only way to get a superstar d-man is to draft and develop them."
I was saying that someone like Jack Johnson can be aquired through trade. Carter and Columbus' first round pick went for him. No the isles dont have a Jeff Carter type, but im pretty certain, Okposo, and this years first rounder, would get a legit top tier dman.

Murray doesn't project to be an elite player. He will undoubtedly be a very good NHL'er, but he looks to be more of a #3 defenseman than that elite first-defenseman-picked mold that has been around in recent years. Not a knock on him in any way though, he'll be good. Just not a stand-out, cant-miss talent. Guys like Dumba and Rielly probably have more upside but also carry significantly more risk. With Murray you pretty much know what you're going to get.

Problem is if you lose Okposo and PA. Who do we have for secondary scoring and who will be on the top line next year? Bailey?

Id expect a player who can make an impact NOW. a top 4 dman, or a top 6 forward.

In my opinion, Garth needs to add a top line winger, and a top 3 dman. Without going through a mock trading session, hopefully that answers your question.

To me, PA is not the answer for this team going forward. If anything, he should thank the isles for giving him the chance to make this next paycheck.

Strome, Nino, Nelson, likely Lee, deHaan, and Donovan all carry good-to-significant value. As does a #4 pick. A few roster players that we can afford to part with carry varying levels of value.

I'm not against parting with assets, not even significant ones. Not with the current state of our prospect pool. A year or two ago was a totally different story. We either didn't have enough prospects to part with the good ones, or we didn't get a chance to see the value of who we did have.
