Nashville isn't going to do the Flyers any favors for Weber. If they're looking to move him, I'm sure the word will go out league wide. - MJL
No doubt, but Weber does have some amount of control in this situation. At most, he is signed for only 1 season to acquire him. He has a bit of leverage where he will traded, not the same as NTC, but pretty close. A team like the Jets probably wouldn't give up Kane + to acquire a franchise d-man for one year.

Are you saying Pronger is going to announce his retirement? Not likely. - MJL

It's not just about that. The more teams involved, the more Nashville can jack up the price.

Umm I see some cups in their future it's gonna be like the 80's all over again they just need sum d weber would put them there - griouxmvp2012
I think it is likely Poile would want a top 4 d-man back in return. Even if Weber doesn't mind winter in Edmonton, who would Poile want back from Edmonton's backline - Whitney and his $5 million cap hit. I just don't see the match, sure they got great young assets up front, but nothing on the back end to offer. |

Na I want him to ce back but I think he will be ltired until his contracted is up unless the redo the 35+ contract in the new cba |

The price is going to be ridiculous and really only a handful of GMs in my opinion have the grapefruits to get the deal done. It will probably be closer to the Gretzky trade in assets acquired, definitely higher then Pronger. |

With Thomas on the books and what d-man would the Bruins trade to the Preds of interest? Poile would want Letang back from the Pens. McPhee from the Caps has never shown the interest in making blockbuster trades in the past. I still think it comes down to Slats or Homer. - ravishingone
Not that I disagree with you but when the best defenseman becomes available all those teams would be in on Weber. Hes that legit. I understand where your coming from but I still think those teams make a decent offer. |

It wouldn't matter if they redo the 35+ in the new CBA. Pronger's deal will be grandfathered under the old CBA.

I think in the end it will come down to a few teams. But in the process, it would behoove Nashville to get as many teams involved as they can. Get a bidding war started.

Thats exactly what Nashville would do. Drive the price up and take the best offer. |

Certainly will help the Red Sox and Yankees, oops, I mean the Rangers and Flyers involved.
Honestly, the Rangers have better assets to match the deal, just not so sure Slats is willing to give up Girardi and Kreider to start. Plus, they had trouble scoring last year with Gaborik, now with him out, interested to see what they do. |

If I'm the Rangers I would trade anyone on my roster to acquire Weber. There is no untouchable on that team imo. Gaborik is the best player on the team but its not like hes a young twenty year old. |

Certainly possible, but I like Girardi a lot, he would be a nice piece for Weber. It is going to get really interesting at the draft, I'm just hoping the Flyers pick in the first round. |

They really need to try and find a right handed d-man with some offensive skill. I just don't know who it will be. |

Slater Koekkoek - griouxmvp2012
I honestly don't know a lot about the draftable players, but he really has a cool name. I'm trying to remember the last really good right handed d-man the Flyers had on the roster. The only name I can come up with is Desjardins, that was a fairly long time ago. I think I'm missing someone. |

There's a lot of hole's here. Lidstrom is not in any way a physical player. - MJL
Not in ANY way physical eh? Lidstrom had pretty good size and, though he primarily depended on exceptional body positioning, agility, stickwork and hockey sense, he did, in fact, use his body at times to make defensive plays. Just a quick example:
http://www.youtube.com/embed/82K59UETcTc
So, obviously you are off base with the whole "not in any way a physical player".
Timonen was absolutely a shutdown defender in his prime. - MJL
Let's pretend that I never heard of Kimmo Timonen and my team signs him and someone is describing him to me. If that person tells me something like "Yeah, nice, we got a good shut-down defender!" I'm not thinking of a smallish puck mover who excels in transition and can QB a powerplay as well as playing solid in his own zone. I mean, if you're just talking about him being able to break up plays defensively with aplomb, I'm with you, but I think putting the "shutdown defenseman" moniker on Timonen isn't consistent with the way that term is generally used when referencing a certain type of player in the league.
Grossmann is a solid defensive defenseman, but I would not label him as shutdown type in any way. - MJL
Well, I don't doubt you wouldn't label the player in a manner consistent with the use of the term to most knowledgeable observers. You seem to have difficulty in doing so.
Apparently numerous other journalists, bloggers, coaches and players, agree with me in labeling Grossmann a shut-down defenseman.
-------
"Grossmann flourishing in role of shut-down defender" - NHL.com
http://stars.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=507102
-------
"The Flyers picked up Grossmann prior to the NHL trade deadline in February, and he was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He's turned into a shut-down defender alongside Braydon Coburn in his brief time here, playing against such foes as Evgeni Malkin and Alex Ovechkin. " - BSH
http://www.broadstreethoc...tract-philadelphia-flyers
-------
"During his brief time with the Flyers, Grossmann has arguably been the team's top shutdown defenseman, in conjunction with partner Braydon Coburn." - Bill Meltzer
http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=43642
------
So, obviously your disagreement with my of labeling Grossmann as a shut down defenseman is a view not shared by numerous other credible hockey observers, including our own, Bill Meltzer.
--------
Suter is a very solid player in his own end. But isn't as good as Timonen was in his prime. - MJL
From what you posted I really don't think you watched enough of Suter to render a valid opinion on that. Can you describe in detail, the exact parts of his game that make him not as good as Timonen in his prime?
Chara, Lidstrom, and Pronger are elite top level NHL defenseman. There's a big difference between a shut down defensive defender and top level Hall of Fame caliber players such as Lidstrom and Pronger and perennial Norris Trophy level players like all 3. - MJL
Yes there is a difference I agree, but I'm not getting your point here...

Sounds good to me I just want them to keep their 1st round pick it makes for so much more of an interesting draft. |
