Scoring goals is great. But at some point, maybe you gotta look at the other column. Maybe decreasing the number of goals against would also work in Edmonton's favor?
Like, Edmonton's got a pretty strong top six, yes Yakupov makes it stronger, but, wouldn't you think that with above average goaltending and a stronger D, being 19th overall in goals for may not be an issue? Not to mention RNH, Hall, Eberle all coming back with another year under their belt? - PTVinnyMac
Leafs should look at taking a dman also then...
1st pick you take the best talent, sorry, you draft by needs with later picks, like the Oilers have been doing.... defensive prospects arent what the need, its established players.

Carle? That would help a lot.
Oilers D isnt as bad as you might think.
Only way I think the pick gets traded is for a real top pairing dman, something the Leafs wont be able to supply.
Yakupov here we come.

***EDIT I FORGOT A GOALIE LOLZ****
Can't reply to your above post cuz the add is in the way. The Leafs need a number one center/Starting Goaltender, that is their most pressing need. They have quite a few prospects on D. I'm not goin to jump off the Scheen bandwagon like most. AND, if they go for D, all they would need IMO is a top 2-3 guy, which would prolly be easier to aquire via trade.
The Leafs also need size and grit... Much different situation than where edmonton is. I'd kill to have my team in Edmonton's position. |

Actually, that's a good point... You figure if Edmonton could decrease that GAA they'd improve their position in the standings, no? Providing their offence maintains it's level, or even improves... |

I think Nail is gonna he a hell of a talent. There's likely not a deal out there that'll make it worthwhile to pass on him.
Pick him. Asses your needs, and make moves from there.
See what you can get in the ufa market.
Then make trades. |

they are a young team too, filled with offense, they just need to balance it out a bit....we on the other hand...had some horrible systems/coaching and no goaltending. Our defense should be better than they've appeared...given they can get some actual goaltending and an actual defensive system in place. |

Schenn + 5th? Think they pass on that?
(not that I really think we should go after the first all that much...) |

That's where I see the problem for them. IMO Edmonton needs a number one D and a solid 3 to 4.
Maybe it's because I'm not as sold on Yakupov as u, that I feel Edmonton could be doing things differently.

still my opinion we go after Luongo...who, imo, wont cost that 5th. |

No, any deal for Edmonton's 1st overall pick must include Sydney Crosby, do you need to be taught man? |

They've got some nice 3/4 guys now.
Top pairing guy would make the world of difference. Easier said than done. But they did play quite well down the stretch last year after they acquired Schultz.
Fingers crossed for Carle, but I'm doubting it.
