Luongo is for real, so is overpaying for a supposed #1 centre (don't worry, its not Thornton UG) but it is a guy Burke believes is a #1 centre, and that in itself worries me.

Not all is bad, Burke is trying to move up in the draft-----and get Gally, which is fine, its how he is going to do it that could be the issue. Again, a UG argument that Burke will have to overpay to get there will rear its ugly head if it happens. And if he fails, he'll be going to plan B, which, based on the last time he went to plan B, (missing out on the Sedins, signing Kessel to the deal he did) could be a mess.

Gardiner is safe folks.....everyone not named Phaneuf/Kessel and Grabo is not. That's not a bad thing for many of you, but I'm not sure that what he's trying to add is really an upgrade.....regardless, there is no chance we'll be drafting top 5 again in the forseeable future, there might be no chance we'll be drafting top 5 in this draft.

On the bright side, we might be a playoff team after all these moves. But like i said, those wanting a solid foundation and something sustainable aren't going to like all the question marks that may arise from this activity.

If you want names, well, my guys aren't as forthcoming outside of Luongo, which is common knowledge. But the usual suspects: Stastny, (Jordan not Eric) Staal are obviously some of the guys I think they're referencing. Again its not who might be coming that is the issue, its what we give up.

- mykokes

with respect to the center, I feel as though it would be smarter to "overpay" for a Staal like guy, rather than Stastny. Actually, I dont want to overpay at all for Stastny.

Smart and overpay should not go hand in hand.

No offense to mykokes, but I don't put a lot of stock into any rumours about what any sports GM is currently thinking.

If we hear something, it's one of two things:

- wild conjecture
- posturing

Neither of which are enough to hang your hat on.

So what we've learned is, we have no clue what's going to happen?

What I don't get is, why does everyone fear Burke's going to start trading away the future all of a sudden, when he hasn't done that at all yet?

I dont hang my hat on anything I read outside of TSN, frankly...but for discussion, I wouldnt mind slightly overpaying for a young guy like Staal....Stastny, not so much.

you almost NEVER pay fair value for a guy that you need...you may under pay to take on a guy that someone else needs to get rid of (Luongo) or overpay for a guy you need and the other team dosnt need to move (Staal).

Would it help if I just looked at the Team USA roster and made wacky assumptions?
- Atomic Wedgie

hmmm, I don't think so. I mean sure: Bobby Ryan and Stastny are suspects, but only the latter is a potential move I think. And Kesler is a definite no.

San Jose won't move Pavelski either.

Since the collapse, it just seems like that Burke want to push the panic button to keep his job.

Wild conjecturing and posturing are both verbs. How would you hang a hat on such things?
