A little help from my hockeybuzz fans needed.

My choices for lunch today:

A. Go to the gym

B. Go to a bar and watch the soccer match (currently 1-0 Poland).

Thoughts?

A. No, he really doesn't. And he wouldn't be.

B. CH=$4.5 million is downright awful for a guy who was a healthy scratch 15 times last year.

C. Nobody needs help reaching the cap floor. If they do, they'll sign a unicorn or a sasquatch.

D. If NYI needs help on D, Komisarek doesn't help.

E. Sure, I'll give you that.

F. That's not really relevant if the Islanders don't want him. Guess what? Nobody wants him.

- Atomic Wedgie

A. Have you seen NYI's top 4? 1. Streit (UFA 2013) 2. MacDonald (RFA 2014) 3. Hamonic (RFA 2013) 4. Jurcina (UFA 2012). NYI currently has only 4 D signed for the 2012-2013 season. So yeah, NYI needs to sign some D and Komisarek cracks NYI's top 4.

B. $4.5M is likely a million too high, but with the cap going up players salaries will inevitably increase as well... See David Jones yesterday? Is he really worth $4.M x 4?... You get my point. Suddently Komisarek's $4.5M for the next two seasons doesn't look so bad. Still a little high, but certainly not as terrible as you're making it out to be!

C. Yes, they do. Currently the 2012 cap is sitting at $70.3M and could go as high as $73.8M. If the cap reaches $73.8M, teams would be to spend approximately $55.8M $57.8M to reach the cap floor. Currently, NYI has 15 roster players signed for 2012-2013 and are sitting at $39.1M. Therefore they still need to spend $16.7M MINIMUM! NYI currently has $31.2M in cap space for next season, so taking on Komi's contract is not an issue.

D. I don't believe that's true at all.

E. We agree.

F. Sure, to a certain extent the fact that Komisarek is from Long Island doesn't hold much weight with NY, but we both know that there are teams that like bringing in "hometown boys" into their organization, especially of they want to be there. It's not a huge deal, but it certainly doesn't hurt either.

There is a market for Komisarek and we both know it. You can stop playing Devil's Advocate now.

excellent post. love the bolded.

people need to learn that regular healthy scratches with massive contrats do not hold value. Komisarek has less value than Tomas Kaberle. well, maybe it's a push.

you're right, that sucks. but why replace cheap crap with really expensive crap? Komisarek at $1 million? yeah, maybe they pick him up as a UFA. no one is giving anything for Komisarek. you would have to package him something in order to give him away.

Key point missing?

Although his cap hit will be $4.5M he's only making a salary of $3.5M this year and next. That means that the Isles will only be paying him $3.5 for 2 years. That's not a terrible contract for them to deal with

Maybe, but:

A. Komisarek has value. He would be a top 4 guy with NYI.
B. MK only has 2 years remaining on his contract which isn't bad. CH = $4.5M
C. The Islanders are going to need to take on some cap in order to reach the cap floor
D. NYI needs help on D
E. The difference between picking 4th and 5th is as big for the Islanders than it is for the Leafs IMO.
F. Komisarek is from and has family there and I have to believe that NYI would be among the list of 15 teams in his modified NTC which he is supposed to update next week.

If Komisarek is/was the main pieces going back to Vancouver as MANY have speculated and proposed, then surely it wouldn't take much more than Komisarek to move up 1 spot in the draft. Like I said, even if Burke had to throw in a 6th or 7th rounder he should do it!

Furthermore, if Luongo is a possibility and Komi was headed to NYI, that would leave Franson+ to trade to Vancouver which I think they're a lot more enthusiastic about than Komi.

komi will be a leaf for at least one more year unless the new CBA allows capless buyouts

and dont hand me the he only makes 3.5million with a cap hit of 4.5million nonsense

you dont spend 3.5million to save 1 million on the cap.. thats just plain stupid

see i dont see the logic in that..

why would you move a useful player like luongo, who has a hefty hit, but not overly burdensome for a player who has the same hit but is being moved because he severely underachieves?

if i were the nucks, i'd just hang onto luongo, at least that way you get good play for the money you spend.

- Dozzer

I said an undesirable contract, not one with the same hit as Luongo. Plus, just because the contract is undesirable, doesn't mean it won't help the team in other areas.

If it were from TO, Armstrong, if healthy, could fill-in in the bottom 6, and Connolly could take over as 2nd line centre until Kesler is back from injury, at which point he could either play on the third line or be sent to the minors.

If it were from Florida, Jovo could possibly fill a 6/7th D (they would have to figure out something with Ballard, though).

If there isn't a deal that improves the team in other areas, Gillis will hold on to Luongo to start the season; with the result being that Lou may get fed up and add to the list of teams he's willing to be traded to, and other GM's will realize their band-aid solutions aren't working out and may offer up more. Not an ideal situation, but better than just a cap-dump.

it's gotta be looked at logically. how is it that someone making $4.5 million who spends half the season as a healthy scratch on a 13th-placed team holds any value? his value is negative.

It is when the guy is a healthy scratch 15 times, scored only one goal, added a paltry 4 assists, and was a horrible liability whenever he was out there, as evidenced by the fact that he was 5th in ice time amongst Leafs defencemen.

Do the Islanders have problems?

Heck yes.

Does Komisarek solve any of those problems?

Heck no.

Put another way, you know how we laugh at Montreal fans when they make cases as to why other teams should trade for Gomez?

Yeah, it's like that.
