I think a more fair deal is Schenn and Armtrong for Lu + 2nd
I know you're to be a smart ass more than anything... Lu's contract dollars doesn't pose many problems... but there is really only about 4 teams that would really want Lu and that Gillis would deal with. And out of those 4... I could only see Lu having real interest in going to NJ (assuming Brodeur retires) or Tampa. Toronto is a possibility.
I agree that for a team needing a goalie with immediate impact... there isn't really many options to be had. There are some gambles with Bernier, Lindback or Harding. But sure fire is really only Lu. - kneughter
I can't believe you called me a smart ass.
Your proposal is awful. Why add the 2nd?
Schenn is a bust and Armstrong has been brutal.
Gardiner, MacArthur + 2nd would work for me. |

Ya I'm okay with that... Schenn is good with limited minutes... like 16-18 minutes bottom 2 type scenario... he only looks really out of place when he starts playing 20+ minutes.
But I do believe Gardiner is the better of the 2.... yours is good... Id be happy with it.
I know your M.O... |

Or Kipper, that is, if Calgary actually decides it's time to rebuild the core. |

Sad but true... both of them deserve better too, especially Iggy after all he's done for that franchise. |

Right, because blue-chippers such as Shroeder and Hodgson would have filled out our third and fourth lines? Look at LA's fourth line, Clifford and King especially destroyed us. They where drafted and developed. I would much rather a guy like Samuelsson who we know from day one what his role is instead of a fringe 2nd line center in JS who quite frankly is top six or bust as he doesn't have the size or grit for anything else. Point totals? Again he would be drafted as a role player, someone we can count on to lay big hits, forcheck and be a energy guy. Playoff teams NEED these guys ( Torres last year). He has size, skill and grit, enough said... - Whiskey-Tango
Clifford and King were picked in the 2nd and 4th rounds. |

Agreed. Schenn is a bust and Armstrong sucks. Either a deal centering around Gardiner OR the 5th overall is the only thing Gillis should accept from the Leafs. |

Is it? I'm a big fan of Lu... but the truth is... there isn't too many teams that are desperate for a goalie.. and on top of that.. Lu has to waive his NTC.
Gardiner would probably be a better player to add... I just can't imagine what deals would really be out there.
No one knows what is going through Schneiders head... does he want to sign a 2 year deal between 3.5 and 4 to prove his worth and then cash in after? Or does he want to try and cash in now? If Canucks cant move Lu... does he sign a 1 year deal so he can become a UFA next year?
It leaves so many question marks... and with the limited number of suitors... I just don't know what the deal will end up being.
Whats fair in your eyes? |

No matter what posters say Gillis's hands are not tied. The right deal will come along.
What confuses me is how can a 6'4 RHD who was a stud before not fit on this Swiss Cheese D? |

I think if Gillis really wanted Lu to stay he could convince him. |

If you're referring to Franson, pretty sure he was a victim of Komisarek's NMC, Gardiner outplaying him, and Ron Wilson being a douche. He still has loads of upside. I'd take him over Schenn.
Lots of the TO fans said he should have been in instead of a few other guys. |

You are right.
Look at the facts....
We are in the Sweathog Division where the 2nd place team will not make the playoffs. Therefore there is no urgency to get a deal done prior to next season's trade deadline. (If that).
Sure we spend more on Goalies and will lose out on 1 roster player.... but we do not need that to get third in the West.
The urgency is from the Leafs and Lightening... although I do not really believe Toronto is in on it. They are just around for the attention.
Can't you just see Burke after Luongo is traded elsewhere looking all hungover and tie askew saying he never had any interest in "that player".
Gonna happen.... |

Edler to the Flyers? First time I've heard of that, I know just a paper speculating...but still. Thought I'd share.

If Edler was on the trade block it would make more sense to package him and Lu together. |

$5.3/million for a vezina type goalie is a bad contract?
You guys in Toronto talk about all this money you have... lots of options there.
Gardiner, Schenn + 1st for Luongo
If you don't like it, go ahead and sign Hasek or trade even more for a "might be" goalie such as Harding, Bernier or Lindback. - Scooby_Doo
Horrible deal for Toronto...absolutely terrible.
Reason: They'd lose a potentially top 2 puck moving dman in Gardiner, a solid and still developing (now under an non-defensively challenged coach) stay-at-home dman in Schenn AND a top 5 pick for a goalie/contract that would screw Reimer/Scrivens in their development and would likely result in the Leafs losing Scrivens to free agency.
Not saying Luongo wouldn't help in the short term...but that trade would be 5x worse than the Kessel trade and you know it. |
