Goalies, even more so than d-men, are all projects at draft-eligible age. You can draft the biggest, most athletic kid who put up gaudy number in Juniors and during IIHF events, but very rarely does any of that translate into NHL success. For every Cam Ward or Carey Price, there's dozens of Al Montoyas, Pascal Leclaires, Maxime Ouellets, Dan Blackburns, etc. Like QB, it's a cerebral position, more than a physical one.

I don't think the Flyers will select a goalie with their current pick this year in the first round. The best player on the board will be a forward or defenseman. However, if its a slam dunk like Fleury and your picking that high in the draft its a no brainer to select the goalie imo. Flyers dont have to worry about it this year.

couldn't it have something to do with the fact that they didn't have a pick before round 3 of 2015 until 28 hours before the draft last year?
- OrangeBlack27

I don't think so. Teams' scouts are told to do their due diligence regardless. Couturier said he talked to more than 2/3rds of the teams.

I'd say the chances are better that they'd go off the board and take Tomas Hyka at their current position than draft any of the available goalies in the 1st-round.

Coyotes have a a lot of depth on defense. Just a suggestion. They could move a player like Yandle to get a goal scorer like JvR. The yotes need offense badly imo.

He has three years at 5.2M per year left on his deal

- stveshdy

But Yandle provides a lot of offense for them at the back end. I would be interested in Yandle. But if I added him, I'd probably move on from Carle. Both are similar players.

carle gives you a lot more defensively. at least his role here is much more defensive than yandle's is in phx.

Very possible. Selecting a goalie late in the first round probably has more misses than hits.

Honestly.. we have pretty good offensive d-men. 2 in the top 20. Only 3 other teams can say the same. 4 d-men with at least 25 points.. Meszy had 25 in only 62 games.. so he likely would have had atleast 30 points. How many teams had 3 d-men with at least 30 points? Maybe a handful..

They do have that. But a big need for this team now and in the future is a PP QB with a good shot.

I agree.
I still dont see a threat from the point imo. They may have a lot of points but thats not unusual for a team that was second in the league in scoring. Assist come at will. They need a guy who is a threat with his shot from the point.

No doubt... problem is, they gotta give to get. Im not sure I wanna do that just yet. Meszy was scoring goals at a pretty solid pace aside from his injuries.

If it were up to you what would you do... sit tight and add a guy through FA, or trade from the offense to address that spot..

I can see both sides..

Unrelated question: On what day exactly will the Flyers be able to put Chris Pronger on LTIR?
