So Suter isn't going to consider the Red Wings because there are bad areas in Detroit, the unemployment rate is high, and the car industry is a dying?

None of these things mean a rats ass to any potential free agent.

1. Money
1A. Chance to win
2. Tradition

Those are the main reasons players sign where they do. If the Wings give Suter a 7 year 49 million dollar deal, just for sake of conversation, he will be in Detroit. I have been to Michigan before and there are some very nice suburban areas around Detroit.

Not really a hard concept to grasp, it's not like playing in Detroit is like playing in Baghdad.

My new article for Philadelphiaflyers.com is now online. It looks at the NHL Scouting Combine experience from the perspective of two Flyers -- James van Riemsdyk and Sean Couturier -- who went through the Combine in their draft year.

aside from those point, suter has said he doesn't want to go to a high pressure market. detroit certainly is one and replacing a legend on top of that.... major pressure

Nice article, Bill. I recall the NHL Network doing a show about the Blues and their team at one of the Combines of the past. It's cool getting a better look into the inner workings of it - and the reactions of those who have been through the "receiving end" of it.

Did he say that or is it rumored that he said that? Two different things that are nowadays blurred into one and the same.

Has Suter actually said that, and been quoted saying that? Or has it been reported that he has said that?

as far as i know "he's rumored to have said" it, but from as many reputable sources as has repeated that, i'd say he most likely said it.

When a franchise has enjoyed the success the Red Wings have had, there isn't a ton of pressure.

There would be more pressure in Philadelphia or with the NYR than there would be in Detroit.

so whatever three letters said wasn't enought to get Cbus to move, eh. He probably told them he was injured so they wouldn't try to get him.

What are these reputable sources? And repeating it is the key. Because that's all that is being done. Multiple sources repeating the same thing. Do you think all those sources got it from a different source then the other?

Now that I don't agree with. Detroit would be a very high pressure situation. They want to win it every year.

I think the fans in Detroit are intelligent enough to realize he wouldn't be replacing Lidstrom. The guy is one of the best d-men of all time, no one could replace his performance from his prime years. Suter could certainly replace the 41 yr old Lidstrom and he's the best UFA dman on the market by far. Detroit has a boatload of cash to spend, would be pretty surprised if Suter didn't end up in Detroit.

Of course they want to win every year. Is that feasible? Of course not. When a team has had the success the Red Wings have had it buys them a grace period with the fans. Besides, top players in the NHL face no more pressure than the pressure they put on themselves.

The longer a franchise goes without winning, the more pressure there is.

How much do you have to pay for the gun turret and gunner? 'Cause that would eat into my monthly budget.

No I don't need you to do that. That is far from the point. My point is that they are all quoting the same so called "source". They're all just repeating the same thing like parrots.

I don't think that grace period exists. The Red Wings just got knocked out early. Grace period if it did exist is over in Detroit.
