Come on. Even you have to admit Edler isn't a 7th defender. This has really been the only season he's regressed (defensively), and he was still tied for 5th in D scoring.

Not from what I gathered from the post. The guy who posted the story just said he talked to the father. If it was Hodgson 2.0, you'd think his Schultz dad would be trying to pull some strings to get him close to home.

Just found what he said strange in that if immediate opportunity was the main reason for not signing with Anh, why do many of the teams mentioned (even the ones Schultz's dad said that had former teammates), except for Edm, and Det, seem to have fairly solid and established D corps?

NYR (as mentioned by his dad, apparently) has possibly the best young defense in the league. Do they have room for Schultz without moving somebody out?

If he wanted playing time he should have stuck in ANA. The think I like about him he plays the right side otherwise it could have the makings of Fabien Brundstum all over . A lot of hooplah for nothing.

Only this season. Your memory is too short. He's progressed every year until this one.

I guarantee more than half the teams in the NHL would swap one of their top-pairing D for Edler in a heartbeat. His positives FAR outweigh his negatives.

His back is the only thing that worries me. If he can stay healthy, there's no reason to think he can't be the Edler that we say the first 35 games of this season, and the one we saw before his injury the previous year. Imagine what he could do healthy AND with a capable partner.

We wont get the 1 st round pick . At this time we need more RHD than we need LHD so it would be rational to get Schenn this year but for the future it would be better if we got Gardiner. So either one + something else like a conditional 2nd or 3 rd next year.

I agree, but I think he's going to sign for somewhere in the $5-6 million range, and I'm not sure Gillis will offer that. It would certainly limit his options for finding another top6 forward, as well.

I think you have to go for the best players available.If we keep hanging on to a max 4.6 Bieksa discount and the cost of players goes up year to year ,we will never attract anything.If Wideman is the best player available for this team and his demand is 5 mil or Weber at 7 mil , then you look at what it does for the team and if it is affordable. I the answer is yes sign the guy.
