That curve, though...that can be a bad one even if you're sober and just driving fast. I used to pass it all the time, going to play pick up hockey at the Yellin School in Hi-Nella.

Now you can watch the Memorial Cup that it's on the NHL Network.

Agreed. I sometimes used to pass it on my way to or from the UMDNJ in Stratford my senior year of high school when I attended the Pre-Med Program there. Downright nasty with that retaining wall.

Based on this season who would you extend long term for these certain players were eligible for an extension? Who are the answers to this teams long term success?

i'm embarrassed to say i haven't. i actually ordered the book a long time ago, and the seller cancelled the order for some bizarre reason, and i just never pursued obtaining another copy. i really have to read it.

i know i'll thoroughly enjoy it - as much as i can anyway, knowing what we know.

It's extremely well done and very bittersweet, like a fairy tale that ends in disaster.

we were talking briefly the other day about draft picks and the Flyers lack of good picks beyond the first round. this list is crazy

Notable Picks:

Niklas Lidstrom (53, 1989), Tomas Holmstrom (257, 1994), Pavel Datsyuk (171, 1998), Henrik Zetterberg (210, 1999), Niklas Kronwall (29, 2000), Jiri Hudler (58, 2002), Valtteri Filppula (95, 2002), Jonathan Ericsson (291, 2002), Kyle Quincey (132, 2003), Jimmy Howard (64, 2003), Johan Franzen (97, 2004), Justin Abdelkader (42, 2005), Jakub Kindl (19, 2005), Darren Helm (132, 2005

Amazing what can happen when you trust your scouts, let them develop, & don't trade them in hopes of getting an "it" player now.

Wish homer would try this for a change.

Ville Leino would have fit right in with these players and the Wings still allowed him to walk at a pretty remarkable cap hit. The Wings have had an outstanding decade but I don't think there is much of the reason to be envious of them anymore. I live in Detroit and I listen to a lot of Detroit Sports Radio. The Red Wings are thought of highly around the league based on recent history. Fans who live in the area and watch them season after season no longer have faith in this core and are demanding a change (including radio personalities). They believe at least one beloved player whom you might own a jersey of should be moved. They want Parise and Suter as much as anyone. There was a headline I picked up today with a picture of Parise and Suter celebrating a goal at the World's for Team USA. This headline was titled "Suter and Parise are a perfect fit for the Wings". Why dwell on these facts if the city of Detroit isn't. It's not about what's happened yesterday, it's about what's going to happen moving forward. The Red Wings are doing just that. Claude Giroux, James van Reimsdyk, Sean Couturier, Brayden Schenn, Jake Voracek, Wayne Simmonds and Matt Read are pretty good building blocks whether we've drafted them or not.

If we keep worrying about what has happened, the Wings will beat us to the punch again. I feel Homer is doing a fine job.

I understand that. I hate to say it this way, but if it were Dave Poulin instead of Pelle I would feel the same as you do.

It's the same with my first wife's passing: There are some things I cannot do or "pass by" anymore. It's just a way of dealing and trying to move on.

There are rumors that Ryan Suter and Zach Parise want to play together next season. Both are unrestricted free agents to be and while Parise is still involved in the Stanley Cup playoffs, Suter's season was ended last round by the Coyotes. Detroit could be a possible destination for both as the Red Wings are a top team and apparently have the money and cap room for the American-born players. Stay tuned as this has the potential to be the biggest story in the off-season.

Trust me, what HÃ¥kan Andersson does is NOT luck. He might be the world's best scout. Because he's based in Sweden, he specializes in finding under-scouted players from Sweden and Finland but his takes on prospects from all over the world are spot on a high percentage of the time. He knows where the sleepers are.

speaking of sleepers, good to know that tomas hyka was ranked 52nd overall in craig button's final 2012 draft list and that the flyers chose to draft and sign derek mathers last year instead, losing hyka (who was still available in the 7th round) because they probably didn't understand the cba rule with respect to signing undrafted european players under 22 years of age.

he had a nice season with gatineau - nothing earth shattering - but would have been a better choice. i'd be shocked if they end up with the chance to draft him now.

well not for nothin... every other team passed up on him last year as well. Wasnt like he was some cant miss prospect that the Flyers wined, dined, bought some jewelry and then gave to his buddy to seal the deal ( )

Hyka also started the year pretty poopty, is a weaselly 5'10'' 160 lbs... and only potted 64 points in the offensive juggernaut that is the Q.

EDIT: Speaking of the Q.. Nate MacKinnon and Will Carrier are gonna be filthy

they brought him to camp and wanted to sign him, but couldn't. and i think it says something that he's ranked that high now, despite his "weaselly" frame and mere 64 pts. we'll see who has the better career. mathers or hyka.

i was just reading another site with a mock draft that had the flyers selecting portland winterhawks defenseman Derrick Pouliot with their top pick.

That would be a very good selection if he made it that far... There are a few other D-men, a few projected to go in the second as a matter of fact, that I wouldnt mind them taking..

Damon Severson screams potential to me... but at the same time can look real raw. He has a very nice right handed point shot though/

Ludvik Bystrom is another kid who I wouldnt mind having..

Jordan Schmaltz also has a ton of potential.
