Prove Wang is doing this himself? Between those who claim he's only interested in real-estate (despite agreeing to a lease last summer with no development rights) or an absentee owner he speaks a lot more than any past Islander owner and most current local owners.
A lot of gm's are not Stanley Cup winners. former Islanders Howson and Tambellini should teach you that lesson along with the former Islander Montreal just hired.
As for gm you mean like the Flyers when they hired former player Bobby Clark off the ice, or how Dallas tried their own hockey committee so Brett Hull could give Avery 19m while Snow picked Moulson, Streit, Grabner, Roloson and make some fantastic negotiations with Nielsen and MacDonald at 500k/4 years.
Funny how the gm went against the people's choice in Filatov at the draft or was that Wang and son again by your logic, or made the trades to fleece Toronto of Hamonic's selection.
You mean the same Gord Clark who presided over the drafting of Rupp, Biron, Mezei, Pyatt, Connolly who's 2000/2001 draft classes were terrible. When he got to the Rangers was part of a ton of failed first rounders.
You forgot the part when failed former media relations coordinator was making sure everyone knew Jankowski would not be renewed, the Rangers were quietly dumping 22 year lead scout, Chris Rockstrom while made one Edmonton paper before both signed with the Canadians.
Wang and Kumar did not know that, Milbury expected to be fired, they were loyal and after a 30th place finish Milbury had to save his job and produced a playoff team which no one was complaining about at the end of 2002.
Prove that Wang insisted upon anything in terms of hockey-related decisions beyond no holdouts. Ed Snider is the guy who goes around demanding free agents and forced his gm's to sign Bryzgalov after Snider gave those pathetic front-loaded Comcast/NBC contracts to Richards and Carter who are now playing for a cup because he did not want them on his team.
His friend? Funny Yashin is his friend and even practicing with the club this fall Wang's friend was again not signed. Wang a decade ago listened to the fans who were tired of seeing their players traded after a year so he said let's get some players who will be here for a generation when he could have kept his wallet closed with a 30th place team. DiPietro was a franchise goalie and a top pick who became an all-star and the risk to retire or have insurance pay is on DiPietro. not the Isles cap.
He made a winning team a priority, then went to Nassau they said no renovation money, by 2004 he came up with the Lighthouse and brought in developer Rechler, last summer he agreed to a thirty year lease with no development rights while everyone else in NY/NJ got a check or a new arena like Vanderbeek.
He settled all Smg issues and spent millions putting in scoreboards, matrix boards, renovating lockerooms and looks to be doing that again.

Who knew Charles Wang making four playoffs in five years before the league became the poster child for man games lost to injury was now Howard Milstein?
Seems the players working here right now disagree, who would be calling their agents demanding to get away from Wang/Snow if they were this bad.
Good thing Msg owns Newday so we know the truth behind the paywall or with games on Msg+++++++10 or from a bitter, vengeful failed former media relations coordinator who the media dumped on his watch with a huge axe to grind who took Charles Wang's money to blog for them before turning down what he called a very generous offer.
For a minute I thought Wang owned the Knicks and was demanding another 11m tax exemption like Msg has received since 1981 when they were threatening to move.
Funny the first time the Isles missed the playoffs Milbury resigned in 2006.

Who knows what other good UFA they tried to sign?
What a horrible owner for signing everyone he could, when he could have kept his cash in the bank.
You do know what front-loading contract is and why it's something the Isles and 20+ teams do not offer including Montreal and Toronto who seem to have the Isles problem landing big names unless it's Chris Campoli.
When James Wisniewski get's 36 million with a 10m dollar check for 2011-12 that's what front-loading is. That has nothing to do with the building which Snow said was ONE problem when Smyth got his front-loaded money from Colorado and was gone as soon as they paid the biggest portions of the contract.
Brad Richards is making thirty million dollars for 2011-12 of his sixty million, that's what front-loading is. Ehrhoff twenty million for 2011-12.

Charles Wang saved Bridgeport again from Roy Boe, bought management rights has lease until 2021 and is renovating in what is now a profitable building.
Seems the players all want to be here and like working for Charles Wang and Garth Snow, who was spending over 45m dollars before this league had a cap floor.
Jack Capuano a year ago got a team eighteen games under five hundred all the way to four games under with 620 man games lost and was hired with Bylsma and just as qualified to win with the right players.
Sure Charles Wang hates spending he gave Yashin, Peca, DiPietro all that money so people could hate him when he could have left it in the bank and kept Connolly and Pyatt who plays in Phoenix where the league BOG (meaning Charles Wang) let's them spend.
This is while the Caps get revenue sharing while Charles Wang get's Kate Murray.
Funny cheapo Wang did another lighthouse tournament flying in kids from all over the world and housing them for a week with no media coverage. The Coliseum hosts the NYC Cops/Fireman game while Bloomberg shows up at Msg to hand the Garden eleven million dollars.
Seems all the former players loved being here with Peca, Osgood, Yashin and other all praising this owner and their time here. The alumni sure loved coming back to the point Wang was criticized for that too.
Absolutely, let's follow the Florida plan after ten years without playoffs, give an over 35 defender a four year sixteen million dollar contract, let's go take Brian Campbells contract and give Bergenheim eleven million over four years which Tampa would not give him. Let's do the Chicago plan with a competent gm and overpay badly for Huet, Campbell and not sign players on time after firing the coach after four games.
Let's go sign Souray so he can lose here instead or Dallas, that's what a real gm does.
Let's do that 2005-06 Pittsburgh plan and go sign Leclaire, Palffy, and a ton of retreads including Andy Hilbert who finished up that year with Crosby. Isles were in the same lottery for Crosby.
We saw this game in 2000, the fans demanded action and Milbury had a job to save and wanted more than 6,000 fans so Wang spent 130m on players. The trade market is far worse today because of front-loading contracts for top players. Incredible gm Steve Yzerman had to sign Gervais, Bergeron for his defense with Gilroy and Eric Brewer.
If Snow were a real gm he would have done that.
Snow had to bring back returning Eaton, Mottau, Jurcina and made a very poor choice with Staios in a weak UFA market over faster Hillen, Martinek and he lost Katic in camp. Wishart should have been here.
He gambled and lost on Rolston and Reasoner, their second half numbers a year ago were fair gambles that could have helped.
Bottom line he's had very bad luck with injuries, some great decisions and some mistakes.
As for the Coliseum, yes we know. Wang should pay in full and be the only owner who has to renovate a building he does not own many times since 2000, he should be the only New York/New Jersey/Brooklyn or potential Canadian owner who should not receive one penny of taxpayer assistance while everyone else got big taxpayer money or bonds while Wang and Rechler got to lose 20m dollars and do 200 meetings on the Lighthouse, then Wang got to run around all last summer on a referendum no other local team needed for a taxpayer funded facility.
I got an idea. One of you give Charles Wang 200m for the team here and in Bridgeport, then call up Nassau and offer Mangano 400m for a new arena with no development rights and pray that's enough for Mangano, Murray, D'Amato and Mondello to leave the team alone because they will want more or Smg to get everything in your building or no lease because they have their own development plans with Hofstra's Stuart Rabinowicz.
Then we better see some fat front-loaded contracts and 1975 ticket prices or you will not attend one game so another 100-200m for players starting with 70 million front-loaded for Parise to replace Moulson for Tavares.
After that you have to buy Newsday from Cablevision or you receive no coverage which means at least another 600m to regain your own newspaper separate of Msg while they still hide every game they can.
Then another 100m in marketing, buying WFAN put the games on their station when the Mets are not playing.
So that's 1.5 billion dollars, someone call Charles Wang and do it if you believe you have a better plan. - NYI

I think we're on the same page and a lot of others are just frustrated and unable to sit through another terrible year.. - Isles_since_6
I respect that and don't' blame them but let's find the right reasons. Wang is the one who has to get all this then go put up with Jay (PSL) Jacobs, Murray and a media that got selective amnesia about all the other taxpayer funded facilities locally.
The problem was that Snow couldn't find a way to make a deal to fill critical holes in the roster either by signing some useful players or making a trade, so people get angry and irritable. - Isles_since_6
Who did? How many times did gm's comment saying 29 teams all want the same thing. Yzerman said it with Gervais, Gilroy and Bergeron on his defense.
I won't say Wang has done a good job, most of the blame for the mess the franchise is in is due to him either directly, or indirectly (continuing to employ milbury) but we've seen worse owners. - Isles_since_6
Milbury did clean up Maloney's mess, stole Jonsson, Hunter (which he credited Clark for) and his trade with Toronto landed the rights for Brewer or Luongo and made a nice call on Czerkawski among his clunkers. He also fleeced Montreal for Asham and got back Czerkawski for another 25 goal playoff spot in 2004 to go with the Aucion trade, Osgood pickup.
Milbury had his office packed expecting to be fired, Wang kept him out of loyalty and wanted to see what he could do, and in 2002 gave the people what they wanted. Milbury's been out as gm since his first non-playoff season under Wang and most of Snow's 2007-08 team is gone so forget Milbury. I give Wang no blame for taking a team that missed the playoffs six years in a row to a full house spending 130m dollars in year two.
All the players Milbury moved, zero cups until Chara last year on his third team that lost a 3-0 series lead.
Howard Milstein had the team a matter of days and told the fans fill the building first, then made Palffy hold out. Wang from Hamrlik to Tavares kept spending.
The team would already be gone without him, and he has tried to get a new building for the team. For the haters, I'm not excusing him, but these problems wouldn't miraculously go away with a new owner. - Isles_since_6
Here's where the people claiming I work for Wang get their bubble burst.
How is a franchise owned by a billionaire in Howard/Ed Milstein with an enforceable lease gone in 2000, without declaring bankruptcy and the NHL fighting Nassau over the enforceable lease to go with Smg?
What trap was Bettman about to spring that to date he ha never done to another NHL franchise?
Wang did not save the team, Bettman did not pull that on Rigas or owners who did declare bankruptcy and billionaires like Milstein who tried to buy the Red Skins don't declare bankruptcy with a 300m dollar cable contract through 2030.
Steven Ross was Milstein's Islander partner, he now owns the Dolphins.
I don't see a perfect solution for Snow and with the current situation with the arena and lease, it's only going to get harder to sign decent ufa's. I don't think we're in for a good season until after 2015 but I'm hoping snow will surprise us this offseason. - Isles_since_6
Unless you front-load contracts it's hard for every team to sign a quality free agent because that's what all of them get now and it has nothing to do with any building. Players want cash up front so they don't wind up like Redden or Drury or Gomez.
We know what Wang was willing to sign a 30 year extension for last summer, he takes over Smg's role, pays 14m in rent, eleven percent of all revenue, no development rights.
That framework is what will be agreed to whether it be a renovation or a new building. |

I follow I-Bob and He has been spot on with some stuff Waaaaaaaay before mainstream Media. In the year I have followed him some very big stories have first been sent out by him.
1. Peyton Manning will not play for the year.. .at least 3 months before everyone else
2. Reyes is signing with the Marlins.... 3 weeks before rest of world.
3. Peyton to Broncos
4. jets get Tebow...
Some guys hate him... don't really care. I follow the guy b/c he is right a lot. He usually gets destroyed when he puts stuff out and then turns out to be right.
P.S.- he said in January DP would never play for Isles again... most of you called him an idiot.. let's see if he is right. - niteislander

So why did these players all resign, why did they not blast Wang/Snow and demand out.
Nielsen's been here since 2003, this was his chance to be free of Wang's circus, he was in headlines for the Selke and had options, why did he stay and take eleven million dollars?
Comeau was disappointed he could only get one year.
Why did the goalie who refused to report and was tolled for 500k not only sign on a team loaded with prospects, but was thrilled to do so?
Tell me why Tavares did not tell his agent get me out of here right now, instead of signing for six years if Wang and Snow are this bad.
Peca went to Edmonton, he blasted their management, he does now owe Wang anything but all Peca does is praise Charles Wang? - NYI

Howard Milstein had the team a matter of days and told the fans fill the building first, then made Palffy hold out. Wang from Hamrlik to Tavares kept spending.
- NYI
Did you just say "no cups" for Milbury's players that he traded except Chara on his "third team"? You have some valid points to be honest even though I don't agree with most of them but come on. This is NOT a valid point, I would say more good players don't win the cup then do. Also, trying to discredit one of the best Dmen in the league bcs he's been on three teams and Milbury traded him is laughable. Milbury "fleecing" Montreal on getting Asham? Using "fleecing" and a trade with Asham as the centerpiece is funny. Like the guy but "fleecing"? |

Ive told you before, they DO read this stuff

I didn't need you to tell me that(not trying to be a douche), this is definitely someone associated with the team in some capacity. Nobody can possibly drink this much cool-aide unless they were sucking it directly from Wang's teat. |

One point to note...
The Isles rebuild began at the 2008 draft... that is less than 4 years ago. And no rebuild: Caps, Blackhawks, Penguins or such has been any faster. Pens took 5 years and got a generational player... no, actually two of them. Tavares is neither Crosby or Malkin, despite the wonderful development into a key player.
You can complain about Garth's tenure, but it was not until the 2008 season under Nolan as the team just fell apart that a rebuild was decided on and committed to.
I think what comes into play into fan feelings/perception is fact of the miserable years under Milbury and above all... the very frustrating and concerning venue situation. Also, only Frans and Okposo were integral pieces in system before this, so not working with a whole lot here (Andy Mac in my mind is a depth Dman)
So, I think we all need to add those factors to the issues here to really make an assessment. - B.D. Gallof
You make good point BD but Wang and Snow will not get the benefit of the doubt from many fans when they keep brining in minor league coaches and over the hill vets and they keep talking like everything is perfect. |

All good points...
I REALLY like this guy (or girl)
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
If Wang and Snow are so awesome and incredible then why do only you, Tavares, Nielsen, and Nabakov know(sorry, and xXx)? The way this guy makes it sound Nash and Loungo are going to be chomping at the bit! Wang and Snow are great! I'm surprised the rest of the NHL, it's players, THN, TSN, me, and the whole damn hockey world hasn't caught on? Shocking? |

You can disagree or throw names but everything I wrote did happen. - NYI

This guy has gone back and forth with his opinion numerous times. From bashing Snow to insulting Wang with his photo shopped pictures. Now he writes an almost symphathetic blog? Says he understands fans "complaining" then almost hints at there not being any validity to them complaining yet I've read enough of his stuff to know he was a "complainer" himself? Why the sudden change of heart? |
