If you don't appreciate what Milbury did, you don't care about the Islanders.

- NYI

Regardless whether fans here agree or disagree with your Islander points. It doesnt matter. Thats what this site is all about. Ideas, opinions. You cant please everyone. You can only state what you believe.

Unfortunately for you.

You will forever be linked to your Milbury statement. Hence a loss of credibility in the eyes of many.

I gotta hand it to ya though. You sure generated one hell of a discussion.

Wang kept Milbury in his position for far too long which gave him the opportunity to do what he did, so blaming Milbury is in essence the same as blaming Wang.
- Cptmjl

I agree with that statement, however in that case, he let Milbury run the show and the result of that may have been the reason he became more involved afterwards and ran with the idea of a committee. I can't blame him for being gunshy on giving one guy the authority to run the show after Milbury ran it into the ground

I do agree with NYI's listing of the young players Wang and Snow have been able to re-sign that shows that it's not as bad inside the organization as we may think. Does anyone really believe if JT wanted out that he couldn't get himself traded? He chose to stay as did many others, for long term, which means they must be doing something right. Unfortunately it's not translating to offseason signings or success on the ice.

They're young. They probably buy into the same Wang/Snow lines we all swallowed hook, line and sinker a few years ago. If things stay the way they are for much longer, those that want to win will leave. Those who are comfortable in a no-pressure environment where they can just get paid will stay.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Znmkh5s-xo&feature=player_embedded I was looking at the LH write up on Dibo... I mean this guy is a menace. I wonder if they will qualify him or let him walk. this clip of him going after the goalie cracked me up.

By the way.. I just watched a bunch of Dibo fights... I have not seen a guy lose that many fights since Webber was on the Islanders. I watched 8 and he got killed in 6 of them... lol.

the guy is a career minor leaguer...the may bring him back but i wouldn't be mad if they cut ties

Actually, he was nixing deals even back then if you believe Brian Burke (strangely the deal involved then-goaltender Garth Snow!):

"Islanders GM Mike Milbury really ****** me one time on a deal where we had a handshake and he agreed. It wasn't his fault; it was the owner's fault. But we had a deal for Garth Snow right before the waiver draft, and he pulled out of the deal that morning…. I had to take Martin Brochu in the waiver draft, and people have no idea. People ask, ‘Why did you take Martin Brochu?' Because Mike Milbury ****** me on a deal…. In fact, it was right after 9/11, and I was driving over the Golden Gate Bridge going to Santa Rosa, where our team was training. I said, ‘Mike, we're all set, right?' He goes, ‘No.' I said, ‘What the **** do you mean,"no"?' He goes, ‘Charles [Wang] doesn't want to do it.' I said, ‘Who's the GM – you or Charles?'… I said, ‘You are ******* me like you can't believe. I have no plan B here, Mike. I didn't need a plan B because I had a Plan A.' He totally ****** me, but I don't blame him. It was the owner."

Beat me to it. It's amazing how many people are still believing the same Wang/Snow lines? These kids were told all the same shat we were. Someone like JT for example. All the rhetoric going around about him not wanting to be drafted by us and wanting a trade after we did could have almost inspired him to stay and try to right the ship? Almost like a challenge. The kid wants to win and is a fighter, they honestly couldn't have drafted a better player for this team. The kid just won't give up with anything it seems, I almost think that's why he signed that contract? I wonder what the negotiations were like and if it was a slam dunk for his agent to advise him to sign that contract? I'd also love to know how he feels about signing it now? Of course just an idea before the attacks start.

To the Isles' credit (Wang and Snow), it does seem like they do a lot to create a "we're all family" type atmosphere within the organization. That probably goes a long way toward encouraging the young players to want to stay.

Maybe I'm not sure. If so. I'm guilty of a carnal sin. I skimmed thru his posts. Broke my own rule of never commenting unless I read each post carefully.

I was thoroughly enjoying all the banter when I came upon that quote. I will go back and read it.

Shame on me if I took it out of context.

Thanks NiteIsle for pointing that out to me.

EDIT: OK, went back to NYI post and clicked the link. My fault. I apologize to NYI.

But I have learned something here. When each post is nearly as long as " War and Peace"

Its pretty hard to not Skim thru a few of em.

I'll try to keep that in mind next time I go on a RANT.

My plan? I have no idea how to run or manage an NHL team. I have no idea how to make movies either, but I can sure tell you when one has a horrible plot and bad acting. I don't know how to make pizza from scratch, but I can tell if it's made well or not. I don't have to be able to build a hockey team to know that the one I root for that has been floundering for decades may not be the best run or managed organization in the league.

Occam's Razor, man...is it more likely that the Islanders have been bad for all this time because of Newsday/Botta/MSG/politics/arenas/Bloomberg/injuries/misinformation/bad luck, or because the people running it simply haven't built good teams?

You've been pointing out isolated bad moves by teams that recently won the Stanley Cup and comparing it to a few decent moves the Isles have made and trying to make a point based on that. Let's be realistic here and not lose the big picture by focusing on a few scattered details. Those other teams win more. Charles Wang, for all his supposed genius, has not managed to find the right people to win a single playoff round in a dozen years of owning the team.

The media people like Botta that you blame wouldn't have a leg to stand on if the team ever just won and shut them up. I've been waiting to throw it in the doubters' faces for more years than I can count. The glorious payoff for putting up with all the nonsense. But at some point, you have to cut the stubbornness and acknowledge that the doubters are right. No spin you put on it will change the team's horrid record, even if Garth Snow managed to somehow pull the NHL move of the century by re-signing Frans Nielsen.

You're complaining about Dolan-owned Newsday's coverage of the Islanders...does Dolan own the New York Times, the Post and the Daily News, too? Does he own every hockey media site, publication and sports radio station? Because all of them either ignore or trash this team as well.

The team has played itself into irrelevancy. Even if Dolan did have this major axe to grind with the Islanders, he wouldn't have to devise these elaborate conspiracies to hide coverage of them. Most people don't care about the Islanders because there are more exciting teams even in the same sport to root for in the area.

We few idiots arguing with each other here about whether our 2nd round draft picks made in even years when the moon was full were better than the Rangers, while the other local teams fight to go the Cup finals, are the only ones left who care, and most of us are pissed.

If the person in charge of creating this reality is a model owner to you, then we're starting from way too far apart probably to ever find any common ground. We would likely just write absurdly long posts back and forth until we die.

I have to say, though, if your posts have been one giant troll, then I tip my hat to you, sir. It's been a legendary one

Isles signed this guy Blair Riley last season. He's a little older then Haley. I have no knowledge of his skill except he had 11 points in 55 games @ Bridgeport.

Maybe the Isles feel Riley is a better player then Haley. I dont know. Just an assumption . I really like Haley and think he can help the Isles but Riley is a pretty tough character. Not throwing Haley under the bus by any means. Just some food for thought.
