We also need our other players to simply play tougher. Tavares is willing to go shoulder to shoulder to drive through a d-man. Bailey, when he puts his mind to it, has flat out knocked down bigger defensemen. But too many other players either sit on the perimeter or just go for a stick check 100% of the time.

I believe that is this teams MO. Most nights they look like they're punching a clock. Most of them play with zero passion(except for Martin, Tavares, Paranteu towards the end). It could be the coach or just the losing environment that is the NY Islanders? This team for most of the season came out with zero heart and played with no dertimination. Starting your season like that is unacceptable. Losing sucks but losing when the team "mails it in" has to be one of the most maddening things to watch as a fan. This happened more often than not through out the season.

so you dont agree with him because NYI is 100% sticking up for wang...

I'm not sure what you're asking. Are you asking if I'm supporting Wang as the NYI is? The answer to that is no, but I can't blame all of it on him.

Some of the players, I think that's just the way they have played...they're not physical. Grabner and Nielsen have good sticks, so they always resort to stick checks and never take the body. They don't have to look to take people's heads off all the time, but once in a while it'd be nice if they just finish a check or two and make an opposing d-man a little less comfortable out there. Teams seem very relaxed when they play the Islanders.

Okposo's the one who really needs to play more like Tavares does along the boards and when driving to the net. I don't know, to me, anyway, it seemed like he fell down a lot this past season when he got in traffic. Someone built like that shouldn't go down so easily, so I guess it's maybe a skating thing? He's fast enough, but maybe not as balanced? Of all our players, I'm really pulling for him to put it together. Bailey too, for the sake of niteislander and spartiarti, so they can say "I told you so."

Okposo looks like he's got two stilts coming down from his back, the guy has got to put some meat on his legs. He does get knocked off the puck far too easy. Bailey is one of those players who drives you nuts becuase he's got the talent but plays with zero consistency. I like Bailey and if he can play at a consistent level to the way I know he's capable he can be a very good player. Okposo I think is what you see is what you get, 20-25 goal scoring winger. Nothing more. I think alot of people had the idea that he was the next Iginla which I never understood? He just isn't that kind of player. 20-25 goals a year is nothing to snub your nose at though. It's just when we expect more there lies the disappointment.

http://www.youtube.com/wa...o&feature=player_embedded I was looking at the LH write up on Dibo... I mean this guy is a menace. I wonder if they will qualify him or let him walk. this clip of him going after the goalie cracked me up.

By the way.. I just watched a bunch of Dibo fights... I have not seen a guy lose that many fights since Webber was on the Islanders. I watched 8 and he got killed in 6 of them... lol.

Unless you want to count Mike Rupp with the Devils, who did score a game seven winner.

He went to Ottawa and they could not win, the point is all these players moved around after they left the Isles. Enough people are discrediting Luongo without my help and has Heatley demanded a trade from Minnesota to go with Atlanta and Ottawa yet?

All I remember is the Canadians lost 6-3 in a must win game where Asham dominated and knocked them out in 2002-03 while Czerkawski was in the AHL, Asham had fifteen goals.

Then the next year Czerkawski came back from the AHL, had 25 goals and the Isles made another playoff with 91 points on a team where Kvasha had 51 points.

Knock Milbury all you want, but Asham even made Barnaby cry, was on the 2006 playoff team and scored the only goal in the series opening loss.

- NYI

no one is saying that zdeno chara or danny heatley ALONE is the reason why the islanders didnt win a cup, had they kept chara, heatley, luongo, bertuzzi yada yada yada on the TEAM, then yes, all together its conceivable they could have won the cup...

Luongo
Jokinen
Brewer

With NYI's logic these were all sound moves. You putting Luongo there made me crack up even though it's the truth. Thank God Vancouver did that before the Isles did

I just remember looking at a list of all the Captains in the NHL. When I saw 5 of them were guys we traded I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. I would be willing to bet no team in history has done that particular feat.

it's not even whether or not they would have won the cup, it's that they likely would have been a much more solid team and at least would have seen the playoffs more frequently and Snow wouldn't have started with a barren farm system and a roster of aging spare parts. Milbury did a number on this team and more than gutted them in a desperate attempt to save his job and showed a severe lack of patience.

The only criticism I'll give Snow is that he's frequently too far to the other extreme, but I think he's done a great job of restocking the system. His weaknesses are signing quality UFA's and trading for established talent that can still contribute. At least we have far more potential than under Milbury however developing the talent is critical as well as finding players to support them.

At this point, if these moves can't be made or these players can't be signed, then we're not going to see anything better than what we have.

I blame Milbury for where we are now a whole lot more than Wang.

Wang kept Milbury in his position for far too long which gave him the opportunity to do what he did, so blaming Milbury is in essence the same as blaming Wang.

Wang is not trying and stated as such, he did then stopped. You are reaching, injuries, Dolan, Rangers, Botta, Canadian media. the whole world is against the Islanders and Wang. Stop, I can't even imagine you believe this crap? I actually agree with you on Snow having more control than people on here want to believe but that doesn't even help your point(s). There is one thing that is a fact, this team sucks. Plain and simple. They were competitive for one year under his ownership and never while Snow was GM. If you want to believe that they were when they traded for Smyth and made it into the playoffs by some miracle and Jupiter being in line with Saturn than good for you. Those are facts, this team sucks and will be for the foreseeable future. That is not my idea of a great owner or GM, I don't care what Pittsburgh did or Washington or Chicago(funny how you were discrediting them earlier and now using them as a positive comparison, you'll fit in perfect here). This team sucks, has for far too long. Anyone who is still a fan of this team deserves an award no matter what their view is(including yourself). Wang has done nothing to deserve respect from the fans, if you're argument is he kept the team here save it. Alot of people would rather them move and succeed then see them in this state or mismanaged. They are an embarassment. Unfortunately that's what it's come to for alot of fans. Why am i replying to this? This has got to be a joke

I see it as sort of our "Horton Hears a Who" moment where we can shout, "We are here! We are here!" There aren't many Isles fans left, but we're a dedicated group pushing the voting this far along. Small victories. It's too bad August 1 didn't have unlimited voting, we would have blown those NIMBY old folks away.

im willing to accept that NYI doesnt "blame" wang. thats fine. hes entitled to what he believes. that whole debate is about poop that has already happened and cant be adjusted; lets look in the future, im curious what to know what NYI believes is the cause of the 20 or so years of horrendous hockey and how it can be fixed...
