Since the lockout an 8 seed has now made it twice and a 7 seed made it once as well. Not to mention a 6 seed if Jersey gets there. The league has more parity now than it ever has. I expect to see a 5-8 seed get to the cup finals every couple years. - Pierceme69
If you look at the talent on the Kings and compare it to the Sabres there is a big gap there regardless of if they are the 8 seed or not. The Kings were built well for the playoffs and for whatever reason they stumbled a bit during the regular season. I dont see the comparables between Kings/Sabres.

Jeremy White is such a tool. I can't wait for Howard to come back.
I hate it when he decides to base his entire show on one stupid topic and then just beat it like a dead horse over and over and over. He has a hard time carrying a show as it is but when the topic is bad his inadaquacies are compounded.

I don't agree. It's easy to say that because the Kings are about to play for the cup and the Sabres have club callouses by now, but I don't think LA is that much more talented than Buffalo. Up the middle they obviously are way better, especially since the Carter trade, but I think we have better wings and the D's are comparable. The obvious difference is that Quick is having a Conn Smythe worthy playoffs.

What is the topic? - Pierceme69
The basis for his show this morning was how some commentator(s) were saying how entertaining and exciting last nights game was and then how Barry Melrose ( ) was complaining how boring, awful, terrible and dull the game was.
He was just going on an endless rant of how wrong Melrose was and that if 8 goals was boring then what was he thinking.
While I agree that the game was a little more entertaining to watch than most in the series and I agree that Melrose is/was dead-wrong (as usual) I just hate it how Jeremy decides what the topic of the day is and then runs with it even if the show is sinking like a lead balloon and then he refuses to switch gears to a backup topic.
Watching this year's playoffs has been very depressing. Many people were hoping for the Sabres to tank for a higher draft pick around mid-March. At that time I still thought the Sabres would make the playoffs and people repeatedly said things like 'Who cares? The goal isn't to get to 8th place.' Fast forward to now where we already have an 8th place team in the cup finals with a #6 seed 1 win away from joining them. Could the Sabres have made it to the finals if they got into the playoffs? Probably not. But as this years playoffs have shown with teams like the Pens, Canucks, Red Wings, Blackhawks, and Bruins losing in the first round, they had as good a shot as anyone. Make the playoffs and you never know. - Pierceme69
I know what you mean, but the Sabres are not up to par with these teams. The Kings made a great deadline deal getting Carter, after that they were one of the highest scoring teams in the NHL. Also I would say the Kings are a team built for the playoffs. Big, physical and have great goaltending to go along with a solid top 6.
The Devils arent a true 6 seed, they finished with 102 points, which tied them up with Boston and they played in a much harder division. So in reality I would consider the Devils to be the 4th best team in the east going into the playoffs.

sabres lack top end talent, at all positions on the ice
they play a soft game and are average at best on the pp
it should surprise nobody that they had 8th place in their grasp with a few games to go and dropped the ball

I think at one point in time during the last 2 weeks of the season the top 4 teams in the Eastern Conference points wise were NYR, PIT, PHI, NJ.

I will go so far as to say the Buffalo Bills are a deeper and more competitive team than the Sabres. IMO, The Sabres are 6 or 7 years away from seriously contending for the cup..........

No complaints about how the Bills have tried to improve themselves this offseason.

Not that I'm expecting them to be able to compete for a Super Bowl but IMO Fitz = weak link.

He is what he is. Middle of the road. Hopefully he is healthy and can regain his acceptable level of play that he had before he broke his ribs against Washington.

And considering that San Fran damn near got to the Super Bowl with Alex Smith there's always hope...

6 or 7 years away? You might as well say 50 or 60.
With cap constraints, free agency, trades, the draft and dumb luck the dynamics of the league change so fast that you really can't say a team is that far away. Sure there are perennial powerhouses. Sure there are the Isles, Leafs and Blue Jackets. But teams can go from nothing to contender fairly quickly.
NJ was #2 in the East 2 years ago, missed the playoffs last year and now they're one game from the cup. The Rags were the 8 seed last year, missed the playoffs the year before.

if you took firz's first 8 games as a bills starting qb and doubled it, it equaled Jim Kelly's greatest season stat wise as a bill - homiedclown
He did put up some solid, solid #'s. I think luck played a big part in a few of those throws though. It's painful to watch him throw. He has to put SOOO much into each throw to get it to where he wants it to go..
Still love the guy though.. Actually this is the first Bills team that I've really liked since the Kelly days.
