Parise and Suter have the offensive numbers to get the big pay day. A career high of 50 points can not and will not get Staal a 7 million dollars per year cap hit.

Wrong. You dont understand the market.

Good for you. You read it. Do you believe it? The fact that you keep bringing it up suggests you believe it despite there being very little logic behind it. Not to mention from a flimsy and speculative source.
- Unholy_Goalie

good food for thought.

Pitt has cap issues coming regardless if Crosby and Staal give them a discount.

I'll take that source over you.

Name a single forward who has a 7 million dollar cap hit that has a career high of 50 points.

Nobody has cap issues until the next CBA is decided upon. And it's most likely that player salaries will go down, not up.

A source with zero logic.

Toews and Staal went in the same draft. Whether he was a RFA is irrelevant. What matters is how they play and what the existing contract is.

I hope everybody knows that the upcoming CBA negotiations will likely bring the player salaries down right?

- Unholy_Goalie

UFAgency empowers the player by creating a market ...or atleast the threat of one ...that's how Grabo got 'overpaid', and countless others.

The CBA, like the one before it, will probably bring salaries down temporarily but long term they'll fly away again ....they always do.

So in 5 years, Hall, Eberle and Hopkins are going to have 15 million dollar cap hits each right?

Its funny how last week you were putting Staal in a quite different light when the Leaf fans suggested getting him, and the Oilers too.. need to move the 1st overall ++ for him.

Just love to argue everything, dont you.

That's BS. Staal averages nearly 20 minutes per game.

Staal can and will score 30 goals and 60+ points. But guys that get 7 million per year, as cap hits, are guys that are in the 80+ point region. It's just the way the money works. As important as Staal is, the offensive numbers is usually what dictates their pay day.

- Unholy_Goalie

20+ minutes per game with lesser quality linemates and a more conservative role.

Hey, I think 7 mil is crazy also... but with so many teams, and some prominent ones, begging for center talent... I could see someone offering him 7.

And if that's the case, Staal, and his career high 50 points, won't get him a 7 million dollar cap hit.

What a team pays for him in a trade and what his salary is are two different things. Just like salary and cap hit are two different things. Try to figure it out.

No they'll all sign 20 year deals.

You said he didn't get the minutes, you didn't mention his linemates.

If somebody gave a 50 point player 7 million dollars, they are extremely desperate or just morons, which I already stipulated earlier.

Don't underestimate the idiocy of nhl ownership/management. they always find a way to overpay and very few impact guys make it to UFAgency.

Try and keep up fella... open market he's getting 7, think about it.

Tim Conolly got 4.75

Staal will have a long list of teams trying to get him.

Not that hard to understand, you can do it.

And more often than not those people overpay for offensive numbers that Staal doesn't have.

Connolly has zero to do with Staal. I gave you three comparable players and every single one had a cap hit between 5 and 6 million dollars. And all three of them score more to boot. Not hard to figure it out. Give it a try.

I meant his minutes, for a lot of his time in Pittsburgh, were on the 3rd line.

I can see your interpretation but it was not the right one.

The roles, expectations and quality of linemates on a predominantly 3rd liner is significantly different than what your comparables have had.

Sorry but that is true. You are comparing his stats so far to Bona Fide first line talent.

Bozak manage what like 50 points or something on the first line? It makes a difference.

The line he is on is irrelevant. Just because he's the 3rd best center on the team, doesn't mean he isn't getting ice time and ice time is what matters. He has got nearly or over 20 minutes per game every year he has been in Pittsburgh. That's not the traditional "3rd line" minutes you see guys getting which is normally in the 12 to 15 minutes per game range.

He is being compared to players who are similar in skill set and soon will have a similar contract.

Doesnt make a lick of a difference when he's a UFA with 15 teams bidding on him.
