Stamkos and Giroux say hi. - GoneFullRetard
Not as in best in the league. But instead as in depth chart. It is because he says that Staal is only a third line center, but 98% of the centers in the league would be third line centers behind Crosby and Malkin. |

The comedy in this comment is, Staal is no where in the same class of either of these two, so pointing out Gagner isn't either doesn't say much. |

duhh! anyone that plays with those guys are 3rd fiddle....Staal is not over rated... - Canuckfan2006
Saying Yakupov for Staal straight up is an absolute joke of a suggestion. Yaks is a future 40 goal per season scorer with elite (top 2 or three in the league) speed. Staal is a good 2nd line center who is a UFA in a season. He compares closer to Gagner with respect to his trade value than he does to the 1st overall pick. Obviously. |

Staal is not being used properly in Pittsburgh and will most certainly be a solid #2 who will get good pp minutes along with #1 duties from time to time... |

He's developing every year, if not injured he puts up 65 pts this year. Add his PK abilities. He's not overrated, your out of you mind. Your the one who thought you could trade Gagner for a teams centerpiece. The guy had 2 games of his life, now he won't put up anything more than 40 pts. - PensMalkin71
Sam Gagner over his career (so far): .601ppg and -42 on the worst team in the NHL over the last five seasons.
Jordan Staal over his career (so far): .575ppg and +53 on one of the best five teams in the NHL over the last five seasons.
Conclusion: They aren't that different on a stats sheet. The defense rests. |

The strangest part of the entire discussion is the fact that everyone wants for the Pens to be more responsible. But Staal is their best defensive forward.
The Pens can fix most of their problems by dealing either Malkin or Crosby.
The return would be enormous. More important their would be a far greater balance in the Pens line up. - spatso
Been saying this all off-season already. There is no way we should move Staalsy as we need to keep as many solid defensive players we can! Malkin is the man I would consider moving. Package him with a Martin as a contract dump and we might be able to get someone like Weber plus some depth out of the deal. Staal is a fantastic number two man, so the pens should keep him. |

On our team as it stands YES. The pens NEED more defence! We already have too many cooks in the kitchen offensively. Side note about JT. He was terrible for the Knights in the post-season here in London. Well, that is the last time he played with any kind of pressure on him. |

Wait, wasn't Crosby hurt most of the season, and Staal moved up the roster to play more minutes and in more offensive situations?
Wait, wasn't both Crosby and Malkin both hurt in past seasons, making Staal the top center for stretches? |

Sure did, and I for one loved what i saw from him. He is not quite a number one for offensive output. As a number two in a slightly more offensive role then a third line center, he is perfect! |

He was 17!! lmao
But anyway. with that trade i said, you would get streit/draft a high end defensive prospect, and still have another 2nd round pick. I just think its a pretty fair trade.

Just to clarify, I'd love for Jordan Staal to be the #2 center on my team. Not saying at all he's a bad player. He's a good one. My only point is that people are overrating his value in a trade, especially considering he'll be a UFA in a season. |

He is also the HIGHEST scoring player in OHL history, which includes the great one. Compared to what i saw from players like Perry and Sid (same ages) in the memorial cup, he was not impressive when the pressure was on. Until I can actually see him lead a team into the playoffs and perform with some pressure, I cannot really comment on how good he will be. Only thing I can say is that, I don't believe he will be that impressive when it matters. Just opinion, not fact. |

Here's a fun fact: Staal's average TOI during 2011/2012 was 20:03. Asham was 9:14. Staal was second only to Malkin in TOI out of the forwards. |

Lets just say Staal will not be traded this year, unless he really doesnt want to play for the Pens and from what we hear, that is not the case. He will not be traded for "useless to the Pens" players like Gagner, Hemsky, Armstrong or Kadri. Shero would rather swallow the risk of him leaving at UFA time then trade him at any point for players like that. |
