Yup, and in my opinion, you can say the same thing about 10+ more goalies in the NHL right now. That's all I'm saying.
- prock

I've been reading this thread for a couple pages and I have to question the Montreal fans: Since when did being a top 15 goalie in the NHL a bad thing? No one is saying Price is bad right now, or that as a 24 year old he won't improve. I'd kill to be sure that Edmonton had a top 30 goalie in the league, let alone one that on any given night is firmly better than 80 percent of NHL goalies.

If you ask ANY non-Habs fan, if their team was gunning for a cup this year, who would they put in net if they had the choice, between Price and Miller, and 9 times out of 10, you’ll get Miller as an answer.
- prock

Usually you try to bring up stats to prove a point but now you bring in opinion. If i said Price was better than someone but stats said otherwise you would be the first to chime in. Miller has won a vezina so that makes him more proven but the last couple years Price has the same or better numbers

My rationale on Price using Schneider.

I don't think you could find anyone who would deny that Schneider appears to be an absolute stud goaltender.

In Schneider's rookie season he posted an 877 in 8 games. In that same year Price posted a 905 in 52 games. The PREVIOUS year he had a 920 in 41 games.

In the last two seasons Price has started on average 68.5 while putting up, on average, a 920. Schneider in the same time period and on average, 29 games and a 933, on a 1st place team.

Oh, and Carey is a year younger.

271 starts versus 68 starts.

And he's a year younger.

I don't agree that Schnieder is a stud goaltender.

I believe he could be, but hasn't proven it yet over the course of a full season.

Class is back in session.

He looks promising. I'd like to see more before declaring him a stud goaltender.

yup, this sounds all about right, but you got to figure RNH will be in the mix..Cam Ward the starter I hope like u listed it..last thing we need is Fleury showing up like he did against Philly..never been much of a fan of him really

I am not completely sold on any of those three at this point. Hopefully someone steps up.They will ultimately go with the hot hand at the time.

Price is a better goalie IMO, put Price on that team, his stats would fly up in no time..he is the one saving grace in Montreal at this point

back to business, agreed, but I feel "safe" with Ward..he has had 2 awesome playoff runs to his credit..Fleury, even if he was hot, would make me paranoid..Price, yet to be seen..but he has brought his game to a whole new level the last few years here..after that??..pickings are slim..

Yeah, Montreal did that with Price way to soon. Bruins fans were cautious about doing that with Tuukka

I'm still not 100% sold on Tuuka which makes me nervous that the B's are trying to sign that finnish vet. Makes me think Timmy could be getting dealt.

I would think so as well.

My point was that Schneider is as blue-chip a prospect as you can find in the NHL. Almost a sure bet which is why I said he APPEARS to be a stud goaltender. That was the key word.

Using that logic and Schneider's resume you can only make the same declaration about Price who has a more impressive track record thus far through their careers.

I think this is a great roster but it is not 100% what I would go with. For starters it is still too early to see if Seguin and Hall will contnue to develop to that star potential.

Secondly I would remove Boyle and Bergeron from the squad. Boyle will be too old and we'd need a bit more size in the form of a shut down player. M.Staal or T.Mylers perhaps?

Third, Bergeron although still a great player IMO is not better than J. Staal as the shut down center. I would rather go with Richards and Staal as a shut down duo.

Final thought is that there are too many right handed D-men.

I suspect Seabrook is taken, and plays with Keith. He’s better all around than some of the guys you have there, and comes with the advantage of an established pairing (and only 27). I think Myers makes that list ahead of a player or two there. Staal also becoming one of the premiere shutdown guys in the league, gets consideration (but at THIS point in time, I’d go with someone else).

Doughty – Weber
Myers – Pietrangelo
Keith – Seabrook
Letang

When you’ve got what was considered the best D tandem in the league just a couple of years ago, as your third pairing, you know there is some stiff competition. PP goes to Letang – Weber (1st), Pietrangelo –Keith (2nd). Shutdown goes to Pietrangelo – Seabrook, Myers – Weber.

But hey, a lot can change in 2 years, right?
