I personally enjoy that some person online who I do not actually know was wrong more than anything. Boy is that satisfying.

66 NHLers, who play most of their hockey on small ice, won medals. 12 non-NHLers, who play most of their hockey on big ice, won medals.

we've won three of the last four golds, two of which weren't on NHL ice.
- Morris

Today being the first time on International sized ice and overseas (outside North America), since Canada won Gold 1952 in Olso, as they said today, on CBC (Glen Healey?) at the conclusion of the game.

And for all the criticisms of the forwards for not scoring, how many takeaways did they have? How many shifts were spent entirely in the attacking end?

Even though it was big ice, the way we dominated the board-play was dominant.

- Morris

An interesting fact.........ALL regulation/OT GWGs were scored by Western Conference players.

In fact the last two goals today were the only two scored by Eastern Conference players.

The most gratifying part of Canada winning gold in such a dominant fashion is the fact the big ice gladiators known as team Russia were nowhere near the gold medal game.
- Cape Breton Bruins

And that can be blamed mostly on the Russian Coaching staff and outdated coaching strategy.

I've NEVER said that International sized ice would be the biggest factor.

I've pointed out that it is an advantage for Europeans who grew up playing on it, just as NHL sized ice is for North Americans.

The only time NHLers played for Olympic gold on NHL sized ice, the two North American teams were in the final gold medal game. I suggest the NHL sized ice was an advantage for players who grew up playing on NHL sized ice, and learned how to play the style of game required to win on it, was a factor (not the biggest factor).

How many times did you hear points being brought up on the "difference between NHL and International sized ice" by the CBC commentators, throughout this tournament?

The Canadians, who were the heavy favourites from the beginning, had by far the biggest advantage on the big ice with their ridiculously strong defence and depth of superstar nhl'ers.

all of this was proven beyond the shadow of a doubt

The only Juggernaut at the 2014 Olympics, IF the NHL Shuts down for the better part of a month , will be the team representing the host country.

These days, anyone can win it, among the top 5 or 6 teams. But the favourite is still Canada. Second, might be the US. Maybe Russia. Maybe Sweden.

Sweden generally puts together better teams these days.

Yes, your assertion that Canada will be a Juggernaut, suggested it would be a cake walk from them in 2014, and they need fear no other team.

Well Canada was NOT a Juggernaut in the 2010 Olympics, needing overtime to win, so I took issue with your charaterization of the upcoming tournament.

Perhaps you'll agree that NO team will be a Juggernaut, and will have an edge. playing at home, just as Canada had one in Vancouver.

Russia is the favourite for a lot of reasons. Patriotism played a big part in Canada's gold, when playing in front of the home fans, and this will now be in favour of the Russians.

Russians have grown up playing on International sized ice surfaces, and with International rules.

Russians have much more experience with International refereeing, knowing what not to do, and what they can get away with.

It looks like you're not expecting the Russians to even medal, and I would take that bet, as they are clearly the favourites and should at least medal.

I find hockey on the big ice boring and casual. Not enough hitting and the time and space given makes medicore players look like superstars. I would perfer to see the NHL players go to Russia but wouldn't cry if they didn't.
- Cape Breton Bruins

For the most part, the hockey was played defence first, one fore-checker and everyone one else back to trap and line up along the blue line, wait for turnovers and counter attack.

A team like Latvia held it's own playing against the eventual gold medal team, playing defence/trap first, making for mediocre hockey when compared the NHL game.

And of course you were absolutely correct on the the issue of whether or Not Carey Price should be selected to the Canadian Team.

Being a Troll, and a leaf fan, you can't bring yourself to say anything positive about the leafs main rivals.

You argued ad-nauseam that Price was not worthy of Representing Canada at the Olympics, when suggested by other posters.

And I'm not convinced Price is going to be an elite goalie at all. He's not that young anymore, and still hasn't shown he belongs anywhere near that group.

- prock

Nor did I say he's garbage. He isn't, however, elite, nor is he in the class of the american goalies mentioned, which was the point I was making. He's a mediocre goalie, something I've said MANY times over the years, and STILL holds true. Sorry you couldn't follow. Ill try to use smaller words next time.

- prock

Almost identical? Are you on drugs?

Hiller has been, generally top 10 over the past 5 years (all but this year), in terms of sv%. Price? Mostly middle of the league, if you figure 30 starting goalies, with one year near the bottom, and one year near the top (yet still behind Hiller).

That's not almost identical at all. That's a landslide win for Hiller.

- prock

He's had ONE good full season. That's all. Is that all it takes for you to consider a player elite? Is Phil kessel elite? Tell me, is he?

And only 1 year of above average play. Kind of my point.... 3 years of average play, one year below, one year above. Sounds pretty average at this point to me......

Quick had a good year last year, and a phenomenal one this year. If Price can come up with a year like Quick did this year (actually, I would say a little bit better since Quick was better last year than Price was this year), then maybe we can start calling him a top goalie. Until then, he's just average. I never said he could become a top goalie. He sure as hell isn't right now though.

- prock

Respectable is not "great".

Last year, he was a top goalie. That's only one year of his career.

He is not a great goalie RIGHT NOW. You can use terms like respectable, solid, etc, all you want, and I won't argue. When you use the term great, in describing him right now, I'll disagree. He's not great right now. And he may not be IN the prime of his career, but he's getting there.

- prock

I get the sense you don't really disagree with me in a sense. When you talk about him not able to put it together yet, I think we agree that he hasn't shown himself to be a top goalie to this point. Where we disagree is that you seem to be pretty sure he will be a top goalie, where I don't think he's shown enough to be very sure at all. I think it's a possibility, not a probability.
- prock

I think you agree with that this isn't true (actually somewhat ridiculous), simply by your last post, when you talked about how you believe he will be consistent top 10, and not that he IS top 10. To say there are only 6 goalies in the league that are better???? Wow. How many of the goalies I listed earlier would you put ahead of Price, right now. I mean, how does Backstrom not get on that list?? Not what you think he will be one day, but right now. Because that's what these people are contending he is, a top 10/elite/great goalie RIGHT NOW.

As far as I'm concerned, it simply isn't true.

- prock

Price. He's proven he can be a decent goalie. Hasn't proven he's anything more than decent. I would hope for better than both, ideally.
- prock

He's not top 10. He's middle of the pack in terms of starting goalies right now. That's all there is to be said.
- prock

I for one think Price was one of the reasons Team Canada succeeded in this tournament.

Will you now be able to admit you were a little off the mark on Price's selection?

Everything I said there is bang on true. Your pulling posts from a year ago where I say he wouldn't make it at that time. He's been having a great year. I still don't consider him elite either. Takes more than a half season for that. Jumping on a half season of top play By a goalie is how sens fans were convinced they have a decent team. When that play went back to normal the team was exposed as the junk it is.

Additionally, I see the d that played in front of him as a bigger reason than Price himself. Not to say he wasn't a reason though. He played great.

WOW, even after his stellar Olympics you still are slamming him.

His numbers at the Olympics prove otherwise.

The people who suggested (over a year ago) that he was Olympic material were "bang on".
