Buying him out is not the only option and considering the buyout period is way before the new CBA will be signed I don't think you'll see anything with Gomez until the start of the season, I assume he cannot be traded. If there's no amnesty in the new CBA he'll be sent to the minors for this season. Buying him out would be dumb. The dead cap space would be too big.

I doubt there will be an amnesty...the NHLPA would fight that big time. Why should the NHLPA fix the owners mistakes? Even if there is, it will likely be grandfathered.

It's probably based on Pop., Quebec/East could probably use one more split the province in half or something, but Timmins probably took care of most of the scouting in the Metro area anyways.
