Buying him out is not the only option and considering the buyout period is way before the new CBA will be signed I don't think you'll see anything with Gomez until the start of the season, I assume he cannot be traded. If there's no amnesty in the new CBA he'll be sent to the minors for this season. Buying him out would be dumb. The dead cap space would be too big.
