It doesn't matter to me.

I don't care if he costs 4million in cap space.

The habs are in a "rebuilding" mode, and there is no top flight UFA they could sign that having Gomez on the cap would prevent.

Meh.

Why buyout now?

Wait for CBA to see if their are any cap amnesty buy outs first, then decide what to do. If you want the cap space for July 1st or trade, etc... send the contract down in the interim.

Those would be the cap hits in the case of a buyout.
2012-13: $3,523,810
2013-14: $4,523,810
2014-15: $1,666,667
2015-16: $1,666,667

Kinda agree with you. Don't want him to screw up the prospects.

Could they send him to the ECHL?

omg he's only just the best GM around who wasn't a GM and a hybrid of Steve Yzerman, Ken Holland, Burkie and Scotty Bowman and Sam Pollock.

According to capgeek buyout engine, the preset date is June 15th. So I'd guess you can't buyout a player before that date.

How many prospects do the Habs have playing in Hamilton that you think he'd ruin?

I'd say they are probably look at a way to rid themselves of Kaberle and Bourque as well... we'll see.

Addition by substraction.

But still, I just want him out of Montreal next year. They can do whatever they want, even throw him in the St-Laurent.

I wouldn't waste up too much energy on that rumour...I just saw that it comes from Dave Morissette, from TVA Sports
