Do yourself a favor, stop watching now. The Flyers go 19 minutes in the 2nd without a shot on goal.

Exactly. I see this as a point of emphasis for Lavi to reel them in and remember who they are and how they need to play to win. It's a young team w/ highs and lows. They stunk up the joint tonight, but we all know that when motivated, they are a machine. See game 6 vs. Pens and last 2 periods + OT in game 1.

While I'm very disappointed in effort tonight, I'm confident in Lavi + leadership of this team to turn around quickly and put up a 5 spot on Thurs. Watch!!!

It's the North Jersey vs. South Jersey drinking contest. Who can be more incoherent by the end of a sporting event?

Little wager with you. Thats going to change.

People here are saying Devils are good team etc. Its not even the loss or the margin. Its the way they lost. Repeated icings (a sure sign of laziness when trying for the stretch pass), repeated board battles lost, no shots for first 18 mins in the 2nd period, no hits by any of Roo, Simmer, Hartnell; 1 shot in a total of 5 man advantages (and 1 on 4 on 4)...all this is really a lot on us. I would go as far as to say its largely on us.

Lavy remarkably even-keeled.

- PT21

A lot of what you said is the Devils forcing. The Flyers weren't necessarily losing battles, the Devils were winning them, and by winning battles, it pins the Flyers in their own end until their tired, which they resort to icing. Then the Devils feed off the other lines success and continues the forecheck, and the cycle continues. The Devils played very well on the PK, they didn't give the Flyers the point or any options and they forced the point man high up so that his pass for a one-time was not in a comfortable position, and for it to be an ideal one-time pass, the side-boards guy will have to move up higher. It's the little thing that the Devils did that goes unnoticed.

Philly is a great team and I have no qualms saying that. However Nj has s hell of a team too and in a 7 game series it's a dog fight. Reading these comments, where you several of you expected Philly to roll over NJ without breaking a swear makes me wonder id this is the first time some of you have seen the post season. It's the best of 5 against two of the better clubs in the ec.
- WayneZ

Agreed. I think any rational fan knew this was going to be a dog fight. Devils played a great game tonight, but I can honestly say Flyers played horrible. Whether that's cuz of Devils or their laziness will remain to be seen.

Also, Philly karma. Phillies + Sixers won tonight so you knew one team had to cause heartburn. Just the way it goes.

As bad as this team played, I'm glad with how Bryz played. I think the Flyers still win the series in 6 games. I would expect a game 6 from Pittsburgh performance Thursday from the Flyers.

so far, 6:30 in i still see great effort, skating, and push up ice...a lot of rushes over the line, but they overpass, have shots blocked, or missed the net on every single opportunity.

They got too cute tonight in some opportunities, misses others and Devils just outworked them. Plain and simple, Devils were better team tonight.

Devils clearly outworked and outplayed the Flyers. I saw a Flyers team who got frustrated by their lack of success on pp and lack of bounces or clean passes that caused them to play frustrated. They played right into the Devils hands. Devils forecheck was sustained all night. They played really well. Flyers played really bad. Though NJ played well, the Flyers own poor performance was the reason they went 18 minutes of a 2nd round playoff game without a shot

the key word there is rational.

I've seen WAY too may irrational Flyer fans posting how this series was a shoo in, or the Devils would be lucky to win one game in Jersey.

Almost makes me think that the Flyers were believing their own press on hockeybuzz.

I was hoping that this was the FIRST game Bryz would steal when we went into 2nd Int 1-0 as that would do wonders in locker room, but wasn't meant to be. I don't fault Bryz at all for tonight. Rest of the team in front of him got soft, lazy, and didn't match the desire of opposing team.

Not sure if I'm leight, but how many "firsts" happen against Flyers? Larson's 1st playoff goal. Someone had to have called that earlier today.

So, if that is true, we will see more things like no shots for 18 mins, 1 shot in 5 pps etc. again in this series?

No, but the way the Devils stifled the Flyers had A LOT to do with those stats.

I think that can't be understated. They did overpass and a lot of passes weren't crisp. So many times, I felt they had to reach to control a pass even when there wasn't NJ pressure of forecheck. Or they had to pivot because it was received on the backhand which prohibited a flowing rush up the ice. Bounces didn't go their way at times and I think they became frustrated.

But the Devils forced that frustration, that's what I'm getting at. The Devils are forcing the errant passes or rushed passes. It's the same thing the Flyers did in the last two periods of game 1, you can say the Devils played terribly and you can say the Flyers played great, but the way the Flyers played forced the Devils to play the way they did.

Halfway through the first period, I assume ya mean? 3 mins ago you were 6.30 in.

Dude, quit when ahead. If you like masochism there are some bondage parlors I can recommend. The dominatrices are much prettier than Clarkson too.

I hear ya with Bryz but though they lost 4-1, I feel like it showed he can steal a game. That 2nd period was ridiculous and the offense did nothing to help him. I really thought they would feed off it and come out blazing in the 3rd. But like you said, it wasn't meant to be. For Bryz, I wish it too. Could have been huge.

They did press Giroux on PP tonight. Were determined that he wouldn't beat them. Kudos to that.

clarkson also got his first of the playoffs tonight, which is odd. he had a nice campaign this year. he probably should have scored before game 9 for the devils.
