How about all of the above.

18 Mil of wasted cap freed up. Edler was a disappointment so I don't mind trading for his value.

Considering Alex Sulzer was not in Van's top 7 Buffalo would probably take a run at Alberts.

As Vantel said, all of them hopefully! Culture change, injection of youth, rest, and for the love of God...get rid of Rome!

Did you see the comments by Gary Roberts regarding Cody Hodgson Ian?

Sulzer was pretty good the few games AV allowed him to play due to injuries, he's such a moron! I thought he was better than both Alberts and Rome, but he wasn't in AV's "circle" so he didn't play. That's why AV must go! Too much of an ole boys club here with him.

Ian,

Gillis has zero leverage with Luongo. Any GM who gives "equal player value" is a fool and should be fired. The best Gillis can probably do is unload the contract.

Case in point, Brian Campbell got the Blackhawks Rostislav Olesz. I think both parties got a 'good' deal— the Hawks lost the contract and cap hell and Florida got their number 1 defenseman, such as he is. There could be a sucker out there who will chump up for Luongo, but lacking a legitimate market for his services, meaning demand from mutiple teams to deal for him, any GM who does so is an abject fool.

And I don't think such a market exists.

Chicago would never deal Seabrook, or even say Niklas Hjalmarsson, for him (with that contract). Just won't happen.

Good goalie? Sure. Better actually than what he has been made out to be. But he also comes with much baggage and uncertainty.

Any team that deals for him has to consider the possibility that he will not 'work out"with them within a couple of years and then they have an albatross deal on their hands.

Vancouver has a lot of other tradeable assets. Unfortunately, Lu is not at this point one that should net much return.

A lot of Buffalo fans have been scratching their heads since day one on him being included. Literally since his first game the overall opinion has been that the guy is solid. Nothing flashy but solid. Granted he only played about 20 games for us but he rarely turned the puck over when pressured, made the safe play out of the zone and really got the puck on net when he had the opportunity.

He'll never be a top 4 but he's a solid 5/6 all day long. Not bad for a 'throw in'.

It's hard to trade Edler without getting a better defenseman back this summer as well. Weber is a pipe dream if you ask me... As is Suter. I don't really see who would be available to replace Edler if we trade him?

That being said, if we can find someone to pick up Edler's minutes, I'd like to package him with Luongo and get more some more value back in a trade with Tampa.

I agree we need to trade some or all of them, but our needs are better served by drafting or getting prospects, as our pool isn't very good. With the trade of Hodgson and Schneider no longer being a prospect, we have no real high-level prospects. Schroeder and Jansen (and now Kassian) are our default best ones but by the rest of the league standards are mid-level at best. We have no potential #1 stud defenseman in our system, but a lot of 3-4 defensemen. It's been our hole ever since Bourdon passed away.

Agreed. The length of that contract is the killer. For the handful of teams that actually NEED the money on their payroll, who wants to be stuck with that many years ? Even if he plays 'lights out' he'll never play out the contract.

So many teams, so few Glen Sather's and Garth Snow's.

I do believe that Lu will be traded but i dont think he has anywhere near the value that Ian thinks he does. It kinda like how the Hawks had to cut salary after the cup and everyone knew it so we got lowballed on most trades. Everyone knows Lu wants out and you gotta pick between him or Scheider so right there everyone has ya by the balls and will lowball ya. If ur GM stands his ground then i think most or all GM's will flat out say fine keep him. Just my 2 cents

I can't wait to see all of you proven wrong when Gillis gets a top 6 forward, prospect + pick for Luongo.

What baggage does Roberto come with?

Crawford had ONE good playoff series...which he lost... and you guys give him a 3 year 8 million dollar deal. Now that's a BAD contract.

His 'baggage' is that he needs to travel with a personal shrink.

I could see some GM give up a top 6 forward in a moment of weakness but to think that he'll get that AND a prospect and picks is just crazy talk.

He's a UFA, you guys need to let it go. He doesn't play for you anymore, unless he's re-signed after or before July 1st. We get it...you liked him.

Myth....he has no baggage? I don't understand that comment unless it's to make your argument look better. Fact....he's been the best or one of the best goaltenders over the past five years, look at the consistency of his numbers. Having spent the past six seasons here, he's much more mentally prepared for the media and fans than he was when he got here. He's said as much himself.

Schniddy,

No disagreement on Crawford, although to say his contract is bad and Lu's isn't is laughable. Then again, you are going for laughs, aren't you?

ALL goalies need a personal shrink, that's pretty clear.

Luongo plays great January-April... which is exactly when teams like the Lightning and Leafs need him.

We (Canucks fans) have wanted him traded because we didn't want to lose Schneider... not because Luongo was on par with goalies like Crawford, Reimer, Hiller, Dubnyk etc... Because of this, observers like yourself and your blogger think Luongo is an awful goalie. This isn't the case, we just didn't want to lose Schneider so we ran Luongo out of town. He's still a top 10 goalie in the league, you don't find guys like him available that often.
