Truth is that Gillis is no longer in lover with the sexy Italian he just signed a very long pre-nuptial agreement with. Don't even pretend that he is in the drivers seat in any trade talk.

Also, don't fool, yourself into thinking you can move him to TB for anything worthwhile. Yzerman doesn't care for long term deals any more than Burke does. If Stamkos gets a 5 year deal, why would he want to take on Lui forever.

Loungo's Cap hit next year is 6.4 mill. If the Leafs were to attempt him even without giving the farm up for him they would have a hard him having that contract and makeing the rest of the team any better. They would have no money.

Just like Kesler for Nash
- Leafland

You do realize Kesler is a Selke winner who's put up a better career best goals/season and has had two 70+ point seasons to Nash's one 70+ point season, not to mention Kesler's contract is way better.

Also, if BB really believes that Reimer is the real deal then locking into a guy who has to be the starter for the next 6 or 7 years isn't the best option.

Sign Harding or Vokoun and let them compete or maybe deal for an asset like Halak ....a contract you can move in the future if Reimer really is the real deal.

Vokouns done. Couldn't do squat for Washington cause he pouted all year cause his agent's a bonehead, and now he has Turco written all over him. It's THomas, Luongo, or another year outta the playoffs....you need an ELITE level goalie cause your team really hasn't got all that much talent...PERIOD...
- RichardPeterNuss

is that why you lost to us this year and got owned by Nashville who has never won a series?

speaking of talent, your cupboards are empty.

Lidstrom is done after this season or next, Pavel the alien datsyuk and zetterberg are holding this team together, the mule is decent but gets hurt as much as connolly. you have 1 prospect that worth anything, and howard doesnt have a hope going forward with the team slowly falling apart, piece by piece. No Holmstrom next year, cleary needs surgery...shall i continue?

So you're saying Washington's terrible regular season and that the team wasn't playing as a team and couldn't play a structured defensive style if their lives depended on it is all Vokoun's fault?

my take on Lu and the leafs:

if the leafs want Lu, and really do want him, i think its possible:

here is 1 good reason why:

Francois Allaire, Luongo's longtime goalie guru who works with him during the offseasons. Allaire is the Maple Leafs' goalie coach...

This should not be underplayed. The goalie coach is one of the critical factors for Luongo. When he was with Florida, in his final negotiation, one of Luongo's demands was that they hire Allaire.

this being said, if the leafs can get Lu for a good price - i dont see why we wouldnt try. a solid mentor for our young goalies, and a legit #1.

now, lets see what Lu's wife has to say about all this

It all comes down to who has actual interest.

If there are somehow 5 teams willing to take on that contract, you might get a decent return.

There could very easily be only a couple, and only one of those be serious interest.

Gillis is going to also get SQUEEZED by having to get Schneider done... and Schneider is most definitely going to want to see what happens before he signs anything.

Love to see Gillis d1ck around on Schneider and Burke gets him to sign an offer sheet!!

- GoneFullRetard

The more I think about this, the more I think Luongo listed the one or two teams he wants to go to (Tampa Bay and/or Florida) and then filled the last three or four teams as places he and his agent knew, with 99% certainty, that the Canucks could never workout a deal with. In doing so, it increases his odds of going to the team he wants to go to.

Think of it like this. He lists Tampa Bay, Toronto, New York, Los Angeles and Nashville just as an example. Tampa Bay is where he wants to go. New York, Los Angeles and Nashville have the Vezina candidates on their roster so there's no way the Canucks can trade him there because it's like selling water to fish. Toronto is there because Burke and Gillis hate each other and there's no way they'll work out a deal. Plus they know Burke has said he "hates" contracts like the one Luongo has and if he acquires him it'll make him look like a jackass. Thus, leaving the Canucks with only one option; the one Luongo actually wants.

At least, Leafs fans should hope so...

Washington sucks and will continue to suck because they have guys like Semin/Backstrom and their star player and captain, albeit very good, disappears for game 7's when needed the most.

FLA - has goalie depth, dosnt need Luongo enough to take on that contract

TB - no chance they take on another contract like Luongos with Vinny still on the books
