This wont happen.. Burke is to stubborn to take on cap and tarnish his ego.
As well even if this trade did happen this wouldn't make you an instant playoff team because until it happens the Leafs should not even be put in the same sentence as the ''playoffs''considering the clutch efforts after the past couple of seasons.

On a side note: Luongo cracks under media attention and blows out games crucial games, two pretty common things with the Leafs as well with playing Boston a handfull of times a year.. Some teams just need to know when to let go of their players and this should a prime time to do so for Vancouver with a promising Goalie prospect arising, which is something Vancouver has never really had would be a great time to move him, i just dont see Toronto doing this. Tampa, Columbus, Florida.

- Diabolic

If memory serves, his wife is from Florida, so I kinda see Luongo choosing, which he has a contractual right to do, Tampa or Fla.

Columbus ranks with the Leafs in interest I would assume.

Luongo hasn't been fantastic in the playoffs either, but I don't recall Lundqvist losing his job for playing so god awful. Luongo has only ever had success on strong teams. He never carried the Panthers anywhere before he got to an already well built Canuck team who had Danny friggin Cloutier in net. Price stands out because his team is not good in front of him. Quick is ridiculous.

The real point is trading for Luongo, giving up the assets that will be required to get him, which is probably your first among other things, adding that albatross of a contract for the next decade.... do you honestly want that?

- Lohaus

Him and Auld as our tandem. Burkie's choice. See a pattern?

I'm saying that at the end of the day, there are only a select few goalies in the league who are actually the real deal, a majority of the others have strong defensive systems in front of them, or an extremely good core of players. It rings true with plenty of goalies, a quick example would be Bryz, different system, different results. Mike Smith, plugged into the same system, pretty much the same results. Brian Elliot is another one, don't be fooled by his play under Hitchcock, already seen it with Steve Mason, put them on other teams, or different coaches they will not have the same success.
- ThePresident

I get that but someone put a list together of preferred goalies and you poked holes in every one of them; Luongo is filled with holes too, that's all people are saying.

Luongo carries the Canucks? Schneider played a lot of games this year and his goals against is almost half a goal a game better than Luongo? Who is carrying them more?

Luongo was a good goalie, I don't think he is any more. I'd take any of the guys I mentioend over him right now, and add Schnieder to the list too while we're at it.

- Lohaus

You're kidding, Schneider hasnt played more then 35 games a season in his career and what is he pushing 27? Luongo is a top 5 goaltender skillwise in the league. Could it be that the Canucks just aren't that good a team, and they play relaxed especially when he's in the net leading to more scoring chances? I'm sure the nucks play more mistake free hockey when Schneider's in net. I have yet to see a more consistent goaltender statwise over his career then Luongo, even while playing on the Panthers.

I didn't poke holes in Lundqvist or Luongo, they are two goaltenders who are capable of bringing there game to any team they play for, you can't say that about most others.

Much worse, I was actually all for signing Armstrong,I can't believe how bad it has turned out.I wouldn't take "Lui" if he was given to the Leafs with that contract

hey, I love all the Canucks fans that are all of a sudden like "you would be lucky to have Luongo for a goalie... seriously, you should take him, he's really good, trust us... seriously"

I remember the same conversation with the explosive and offensively gifted Mason Raymond and of course, top pairing D Keith Ballard.

Luongo is struggling with the pressure of playing for a first place team in a mid-tier market.

He'll get shredded in Toronto. The team in front of him in Toronto will be exponentially worse than the one in Vancouver, and the media in Toronto are exponentially worse than anyone anywhere in the world. There will be a photoshop of his head on a sieve plastered on the cover of the Toronto Sun after his first loss.

Not a wise move. Expectations will be far too high. Walk away Toronto.

- the_terror

Mid-tier market? Considering how much revenue the Canucks generate, that's quite an interesting description. There must be only one "top-tier" team in the league.

I've lived in both Toronto and Vancouver and the intensity level is basically the same - both cities are fishbowls. It might be marginally worse in TO but basically it's the same. Still, you're basic point is right, I imagine Lou is tired of the intense scrutiny.

The Canucks have only been in the playoffs the last few years because of Luongo. If they trade Luongo during the offseason, they will not make the playoffs, Schneider has shown no indication he can last a whole season. Before they acquired him, the team was crap, after they trade him, everyone will realize how important he was to the club. I hope to god the Leafs trade for him, he will instantly turn them into a playoff team.
- ThePresident

Not actually true - the team was in transition. I think you're over-valuing his contribution. But I do think he'd be excellent for the TML's.

Ya, you are right. Over-valuing a teams players in exclusive to Canuck fans. It's never happened in Ontario before.

After Van's loss in game 3 I started pondering scenario's of how Luuu could become a Maple Leaf and it's very realistic.

I can't believe how many luongo haters are here, you are all dumb and buy into stupid hockey cliches... you're probably going to tell me next that the san jose sharks are a terrible playoff team, luongo makes the leafs a significantly better team period, this isnt even a debate

No it is not. He has NTC. He dictates where he gets moved if at all.

Give 3 reasons, hell give me one reason why he'd come to Toronto?

Living near his out-laws trumps playing for the Leafs IMO.
