Never trust a man with a toupee.

Just taking a look at the names in the Leaf's brain trust. My god, if that group can't figure it out who will?

You can have the best men in the navy, if the captain is steering the ship South, it will be a long time before they arrive in the North.

Burke as zero interest in a "five year plan" because his superiors have no interest in missing the playoffs consistently. Unfortunately for them, they haven't done either. No playoffs and a half ass rebuild.

Well, if you ever get tired with the Leafs you can become a Canuck fan.
And not to worry, there's lots to complain about as a Canuck fan so will feel right at home. Won't even miss a beat.

This all depends on what the trade would be.

Luongo for Komisarek - yes, bring hm to TO.

Luongo for a 1st, Gunnarson and Frattin - no way.

Let's first talk about the pieces before we say its a good idea or not.

yea considering Luongo will definitely be a salary dump in some ways, I would have to say a first round pick/top prospect is out of the question. I'm not saying he's not worth that, I'm just saying the Leafs shouldn't pay it

Burke will never touch that Luongo contract Howard. You know that.

And 4 or 5 teams interested in Luongo? More like 1 or 2 max.

I'd do this trade..
-
To Van:
Lupul
3rd
-
To Tor:
Luongo
Hansen
-
Then do my best to persuade Parise to come our way in Lupul's replacement.

TORONTO HAS NOTHING OF VALUE AND LUONGO WILL NOT PLAY ON A TEAM WHO IS NEVER GOING TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS AND HAS ZERO DIRECTION.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The Leafs are in a dangerous position this offseason because Burke has missed the playoffs in his first three seasons. He knows that if he misses again this year, he is likely out of a job. With goaltending being a major concern last season, he may trade that 5th overall for Luongo. He should get you guys in the playoffs and Burke knows this.

That being said, it would be a huge mistake. Still not as bad as Gomez though

....Luongo wants to win....toronto never wins...nuff said.

I see Tampa, NJ, Florida all having a better chance.

Keep in mind Harding, Bernier, mason etc will be available.

I will take Reimer over Bobby (way over-rated) Lou any day. Luongo is obviously not capable of doing the job on the 2-time presidents trophy team.

Canada won the gold in spite of the sieve and I don't want to see him anywhere near Toronto. In the freaking airport is too close for me.

Trust me, I know from experience...she's flexible. She'd have at least a .940

He's not overrated, that's not doing him justice. He's a sick goalie.

Truth be told, I find all this talk to be premature and quite frankly, I don't see it happening. Luongo's got a NTC and I don't see why he'd waive it for Toronto.

If he thinks he's having it rough in Vancouver, I can't imagine TO.

Given the money left, I can't see them getting anymore than maybe a 1st or more likely a 2nd and a prospect of medium calibre. Honestly, the biggest thing VAN gets back is cap space.

Burke will get fired if he trades the 5th for Luongo. Luongo won't get much more than a decent prospect and a pick, lower 1st rounder at best. The whole hockey world will low-ball VAN to get him because they know he has to be moved.

Puleez NO Luongo to the Leafs!!! OMG that would destroy our future! He's a good regular season goalie, but that's it!! With the contract he carries I would not touch him unless they throw something else in!
- Bullot

Sence when do the Leafs need more than a regular season goalie ?

Everyone seems to be thinking about this the wrong way.

"Assets" for Luongo. Thats a laugh. The value in return for Luongo is the cap$.

Any trade for lucky lou at this point, with any team would have to be a Matt lombardi ( Cody Franson) type deal.

I.e. a couple of nobody's to Vancouver in exchange for unloading the expensive reclamation project Luongo with a decent prospect.
Vancouver will have to give up something to unload him, not expect anything decent in return.

I think Toronto has already had their fill of these types of deals.
He wont be coming here.

I know this is unrelated to the article, but does anyone think there's a possibility that the leafs could land a guy like Ryane Clowe? I know you wont hear any rumors right now since he's playing still but I'd love to see that guy play for the leafs.

if I'm San Jose
Ryan Clowe, Logan Couture, and Joe Pavelski are my untounchables.
I think you'll see Thorton and Marleau moved before Clowe.

Not just a Leaf answer, but I think, in general, Clowe is one of the guys in SJ who isn't the problem and offers one of the only big and physical combinations for their top 6 so I doubt he'd be moved. I think if they did, there would be a lot of teams interested though.
