it would NOT surprise me if the league was letting stuff go to get ratings up.
- flyerscup2011

If this is true (which I hope not) then player safety will continue to be an issue. Sooner or later one of these hits will lead to permanent injury for a player.

Someone gave me one of those small kegs of new castle before game 1. Sipped it through the first 3 games but now it's dry. Hope that's not a bad omen.
- funmaster18

it's an omen that you should acquire another one. steal if you have to.

If Mesz is truly healthy and back for round two that is big. JVR is a great addition but the war of attrition for D is where teams get overwhelmed. Very good news.
- Hextall271

Flyers have been able to spread out their minutes over the D very well thus far. They need to put this series in the bag and sit back and watch the others beat each other up

Chris Lee has been an NHL ref since 2000-01 (full-time since 2001-02). He's reffed 659 regular season games. Tonight is just his 5th playoff game assignment.

I think that says it all.

If mez is healthy for round two, that will be a miracle. If we are so blessed then I can only think we are on a ride of destiny this year, just has to be.

Let's not forget that this is a home game, guys. Flyers will be ready to play as soon as they hit the ice. Tell me the fans out there won't be even crazier than they were on Sunday?

Think I'm gonna go with a Sam Adams, not sure what flavor.

For the 3-0 comeback against boston, I drank Blue Moon religously, like from 12 noon on even on off days, because hey, such a comeback only happens once in a Blue Moon. Eventually I found the one it was in.

Hmmm, hopefully it is a series over omen.

My only superstition is to NOT wear any paraphanalia on gameday.

Actually been mostly a light beer drinker because of my current condition, if I break that then I go with a wheat based ale, which Blue moons and Sam Adams are. If you guys know of any other wheat ales that are good by all means let me know

Its hard to believe that the officiating can be this bad. You have a bunch of guys out on the ice to make calls and none of them are doing it.

Im all about letting the players play but some of these hits are obvious penalties.

I'm not sure how much Ref's make, but if I was the NHL, in order to get this stuff right, I would play my ref's 150k a year, plus pay for thier flight and hotel accomodations. You would get a larger influx of people that want to be a Ref, and therefore can pick and choose amongst the best. I would also fine refs for blatent missed calls. It's their jobs to get it right. There are 2 refs and 2 linesman on the ice. If your not sure confir with them to get the right call.

So now you are paying them a large sum of money so you get the cream of the crop... like players that couldn't make it to the NHL, but would make more as a Ref then coaching at some school. And you would get the Refs trying to get every call right, because if not, it comes out of thier pockets.

I really think a lot of this has to do with the human element not being able to keep up with the pace of the game. Need to allow linesmen to make more calls, and really need to use replay on certain things. Also a ref can't be making a call 100 feet away from a play when there is another official two feet away who just saw the play and determined whatever happened to be legal.

i don't buy the human element not being able to keep up with the action. that's a good point about a ref 100 ft away not making a call on a play with a guy 2 ft away. my suggestion would be to have strategically placed officials in the audience and each of then is assigned a player to watch.

Yes. Even as just to go the refs and say, this is what I saw happened, you need to make this call. You have 4 officials out there, between the 4 of them they should be able to keep track of what is happening.

I don't see why they just can't make the call. Okay they are out there primarily to make the offsides calls but I mean cmon, don't they know the rules of the game? If something happens right in front of them, then by all means make the effin call. That hit on hossa happened right in front of a guy with a pinstripe shirt, you watch the look on his face and you know damn well he saw that hit. But he can't make the call because he's a linesman, gimme a break.
