Agreed. And while I've been a Flyers follower since the Cup years I often struggle with this mentally. I lean more towards the skill part of the game. But I also like "Flyers" hockey, which has been, and continues to be, a mix of skill, and tough, in your face hockey. There have been many embarrassing moments for us over the years too. Some as bad or even worse than those displayed in this series by your team. It's a black eye on the sport in general. And it appears it's becoming more prominent around the league these days. I really hope they (NHL and NHLPA) can get a handle on it this off season.

Hopefully we see a good, clean, hard fought, close hockey game tonight.

- rockychocbill

If you have someone in your front office expresses themselves about the violence of the game (which the Flyers haven't done) and then watch them employ the same types of players. I see a double standard. The Flyers have never backed away from their rep.

the bigger issue is where is the NHLPA. I have stated this before and i saw a tweet last night about it. The league can only do so much....the PA needs to wake the hell up. It's almost like the car commercial where the vampire dude shows up at the cook out and kills everyone because he wasn't aware his lights are bright like the sun. dumb dumbs

Which makes me happier in my decision to drop them from my reading list years ago.

allright way off topic, but there's a lot of guys in this room whose opinions i respect, including some of those i debate with.....

my next door neighbor works on my car. he charged me 610 dollars in feb for repairs to my car. he never did them and now insists i have to pay him about the same amount for the same repairs. i trusted him a lot so when he asked me for money i just handed it over without complaint. but he tried jabbing me again on price, so i got pissed and i looked through my texts and there it was the 610 dollars i gave him went to repairs that still are not done and he insists i have to pay him that money. basically the way i see it, he owes me 670 dollars. or the equivelent in repairs.

how should i break this to him? should i be prepared to protect myself? i think he's picked up a habit as well.

- flyerscup2011

Picked up a habit? Are you saying you gave you neighbor, with a drug habit, money for work he hasn't done yet? Consider this a lesson learned, cut ties and bring your car to a real mechanic.

First tip, never pay in cash, everything else can be traced as proof of payment... Take it from me, a banker.

Second, as long as he doesn't have anything of yours I would show him the text that says you paid, and tell him that the job still isn't done.

I doubt you will get your money back, and I doubt he will fix your car if he already spent the money. I would just not have any future dealings with him, and cut it as a loss and lesson learned.

Briere is one of the top playoff scoeres in the entire League, since the lockout. Against multiple teams. So how can it be that he's only scoring due to the Pens negligence? That is again ignoring all of the information available.
- MJL

This is true but he's also been on a bit of a decline, again open to subjectivity of course, but at one time Jagr was a much better player too. I don't think we expect him to do what he was doing in the 90's either.

Well giving him more money should be out of the question. If he threatens you, then yea be prepared to protect yourself and also make a police report. Also, I'd at least let an investigator look at the evidence you have. If you have records showing you made a withdrawl from your bank account and a witness, that can also be used, depending on the laws in your area too of course. Sometimes just letting them know you are gonna call the cops will change someone's tune. It all depends though.

Edit: In fact there's a current police officer posting on this thread, wonder what he thinks?

- JoeRussomanno

thanks, that's some really great advice. i'm am livid. i feel bad for my fiance and mom because i've been yelling since i saw the text. i do have a witness, my fiance she was there when i handed every cent to him. i paid him 610, 410, 30 and 165. total of 1215.

Briere's 33, Jagr's 40. Briere's "decline" is certainly not as far along as Jagr's would be.

Sorry Joe, just think you're nitpicking here.

Well in a case like this, they have a right to an in person hearing, so they have to get there, have a hearing, then make a decision. So it would be pretty well impossible to have a suspension like this by 7 eastern.
- pattydo

Correct, there are rules in the CBA that have to be followed. And there are logisitics issues that come into play there.

That'd be my guess. I think that the NHL goes Matt Cooke on him. They suspend him for a good long while and tell him, next time, it's a year, even if it's something minor. We're sick of seeing you here.
- Jsaquella

They pretty much have to make an example of somebody at this point, don't they? It wouldn't be undeserved, but it will still be seen by some as a token gesture against a repeat offender...like the example should be made of someone else.

Shanny had a chance to take a stand with Weber. He chose not to. His office lost a lot of juice with that one.

Don't have to go back to the 90's. He's scored in the playoffs every Season he's been here.

Really you should let him know if he doesn't either A do the repairs or B fork over the money you're going to the police, that's theft.
- JoeRussomanno

At the very least it's small claims court. Take him to small claims for a refund of the money for the repairs he didn't do.

First off Briere's 34 not 33. Second yes Jagr is furhter along but once in decline the progress of said decline can accelerate at any point. I can see why you guys are debating this, I just don't see how you are overlooking so easily what I'm saying. Maybe I am nitpicking but I like to think I'm just analyzing in depth. For the umpteenth time if he's scoring against those teams and not contributing to goals against I'll back off my criticism. I'm just giving an honest projection is all I'm really doing.

Agreed. And I've stated the same on here a few times this season. One of two things has to happen for this to change imo.

1) The NHLPA cops out and says we're babies and we can't control ourselves. Please suspend and fine the snot out of the bad apples so they get the message because we're too weak to deliver the message ourselves.

2) The NHLPA gets serious and let's the NHL raise the fine ceiling to $100K, agrees to add a rep to stand alongside Shanahan, and doesn't wussy on tough suspensions.

Plus the refs have to get clearer directives and get with calling the REAL penalties instead of just catching every stick breaking slash or puck over the glass call.

Got to remember, Shanahan answers to the owners and GMs. The league has to decide if it's going to go back to letting the players police the game and force opposing players to have more respect or if the NHL is going to step up and enforce respect.

The reason there was "respect" back in the day was because if you hit Wayne Gretzky, Dave Semenko was going to be paying you a visit, and if you turtled, your teammates would lose respect for you. Now, turtling gets you a five minute PP.

Before you bring it up drop a glove in front of him. See what he does. That's usually a pretty good indicator...
