In response to Eklund's question, I am fine with this. It has restored my faith in players taking matters into their own hands.
In terms of the "going after star players" and headshots, the league has been terribly inconsistent in dealing with this seriously. I love Shanahan, but these suspensions are either too long, or there is none at all, for all different types of dirty hits on numerous occasions. Because of this, the players are starting to take matters into their own hands, regardless of the penalties. If someone delivers a headshot to someone on my team, I want my toughest guy to step over the boards next shift, and teach them a lesson, then be done with it. Just like it used to be. |

Hard to argue with that. I thought Shanahan's mission was to bring clarity and consistency to the discipline process. Certainly not there yet. But, the on ice managment of games is still awful and today was a prime example. Those two referees looked clueless. So. I'm sure they'll be working the finals. |

I'm looking forward to Mario Lemieux's statement to the league. I know he hates teams who play like the Penguins did today. And I assume he's not a hypocrite, right? |

Look it.
The NHL wanted guys like Probert, Kocur, Chase, Domi etc out and guys like Tootoo, Avery in by making these rules. Since then, there has been countless issues with Stars and ugly incidents.
why?
because players think they can get away with it.
Consider this, the NHL had the opportunity to impose their "will" on Shea Weber, they didnt, and now there was about 5-6 incidents last night and Legwand sweater grab from the bench today and a retaliatory spear from Franzen.
the NHL has made their bed and deserve this mess.... its time to let the enforcers come back and allow guys like Datsyuk, Crosby, Malkin to really challenge the Lemieux, Gretzky records by having ice.
PS - dont give me this headshot protection garbage about fighting when someone can slam someone else's head into the glass and get a fine.
Its a name league, meaning certain names are held more accountable than others, except within the NHL office. - BooBoo997

I bet you'd be ok with it if the skate was on the other foot. - Iamnumber27
Nope. I believe in respecting your opponent. Boyle started the dissing by attacking Karlsson. He and the rest of the team had to know retaliation would come.

Boyle is no tough guy. DO you watch any rangers games? Boyle had 3 fights in the regular season and one was an instigator for the opponent. - BuffMAN74
Boyle shouldn't be taking liberties with our best players. Then again, your whole team was gutless when Lucic ran over your all-star goalie, legal hit or not, so I'd expect that kind of hockey IQ from a Buffalo fan.
He knew before the game what was coming, Konopka was chirping at Boyle during a pre-game interview with NBC. The fact that Boyle didn't defend himself is his own stupidity. Carkner shouldn't get anything other than he already did. But then for another Ranger wussy to run our captain, the Rangers are lucky Hank wasn't run. |

This game showed pretty clear cut hoe much of a puss Crosby is... Crosby goes after Timonen of all people and G comes in to protect him and G and Crosby square off for .75 seconds and the refs jump in and grab Giroux... What a joke that was. G would have destroed Crosby and the league would not let it happen. What a joke. |

Except, we know that Carkner threw 2 punches to Boyle while he was standing up. So... in your theory, Carkner ran in from behind, picked him back up, punched him twice, and then punched him more when he was down?
Carkner didn't square him up like in a staged fight. But his arms were locked with Boyle, they were facing each other, before any punches were thrown. Maybe go watch the replay. - Ravidel11
Ravidel point taken. I viewed it differently last night and went back watch the video it was more from the side. "But his arms were locked with Boyle, they were facing each other, before any punches were thrown" I may even give you facing each other but, in no way was Boyle given any chance to stand himself. The play happened so fast and Carkner was throwing bombs before Boyle knew what hit him. Take another look yourself. |

Oh Boyle got jumped now?
Four more pages into this thread, you'll have Carkner rapelling down from the rafters.
Boyle had every chance to fight Carkner. He declined. At that point, Carkner "informed" him that it wasn't a question.
How's that Mr. objective? - Ravidel11

No, I am not OK with the way the games are being played. The officiating is an absolute joke. Every second hit is a charge, regardless of whether the head is involved. There is definitely no respect within the NHL game, and unfortunately that filters into lower levels of the game. Hockey, even in rural Canada is fast becoming a niche sport, and by and large years of stupidity at the NHL is the cause. The sport at all levels is now inhabited by the idiots and bullies in society. Unfortunately, hockey is no longer a sport, but rather roller derby on blades! |
