If were out of a playoff race, why wouldnt we lose? i wanted them to lose and Burke is 100% right that we as fans of toronto need to understand that if we squeaked in the playoffs if we made that minor trade or a trade costing us our future and draft picks to squeak in that 8th place as a big MAYBE to get our asses kicked in the first round of playoffs, is NOT worth it. Islanders suck straight up.

If they were allow to spend some money to surround those high end picks with complimentary players yes...but the owner won't allow that because he's losing too much money. Most of their young stars are 21 and under, just because they've sucked for a long time doesn't mean they've done it right. They've only been at it since they drafted Tavares three years ago.

They've had top picks minus the one year they made the playoffs. Maybe it's just another year needed? Who knows? But they haven't shown much considering the picks they've been able to make. Unless I'm wrong in thinking they had high picks save for one year, just seems like they have.

Okay HONESTLY people, how in the hell do you expect the Leafs to dramatically improve next year. I keep hearing Dump Army, Komi, Lombardi, and Connolly in the minors, trade for a guy like Getzlaff, and sign a 1A free agent Goalie. Problem is 2 fold, A) BEttman's already TOLD every last GM that while he expects about a 7-10% salary rollback again, there will BE NO buyout clauses/amnesty, and the whole bury Redden in the minors thing will DEFINATELY be ELIMINATED in the next CBA as "leakage" will be INCLUDED. So all the salary dumps start in Toronto cause NO ONE will take em unless you ship your 1st off with em. Again who do you trade for a #1 center??? Trading your 1st is stupidity SQUARED, Gardiner ain't leaving, so who do you have that 23-26 other teams can't beat for deals??? The sad reality is basically the same team that finished the year will be the same one that hits the ice in the fall minus a guy like Harding signing, and maybe some added size in the 3/4 lines. You'll still have a d that can't defend, an offence that sputters when the presure gets amped up (see Kessel getting owned like a beeitch by Sequin every single time that B's have played the Leafs), so even if you win the draft lotto, get Nail and somehow pawn Lupul off on someone for even Max value, Lupal ain't getting you a young number 1 center, so where does the improvement come from + Allaire is still there to screw over whichever new goalie you get.....it'

Ex: Armdog... never would of signed him for 3m

Ex: Connolly.... more like a panick attack because we had no number once center, no need for his 4.5m contract

Ex: komi... komi is understandable since we had no defence, i was not mad when we first signed him thought he played really good for the habs and would of been good but that didnt turn out so good.

Basically we would have 7.5 mill in our pocket right about now....

The NYI have only had a top five pick for the past four years, they screwed up in 2008 by trading down from 5th (with the Leafs) to get Bailey. He's turned out to be a disappointment. They should have drafted one of several good young players, Snow's first years on the job...poor management!

Tavares came in 2009 and the last two top five picks have yet to develop, I know it seems like a long time but it really hasn't been that long. Took a lot of cleaning up to do after Milbury left.

Its pathetic. Guess burke didnt think things through when sometimes teams will falter like CBJ teams will get rid of star players if things go wrong, teams will not be able to sign players back because of whatever issues, no i go sign some (frank)ING scrub to 9 million dollars for 2 years, and the main part that bothers me is that extra year....
