isn't gal american? i see the name and all.. thought he was born and raised in the states.
- joel878

Apparantly he's been around to several places, Russia being one of them.

Between his bloodline and the few years he did spend in Russia it's safe to say he's anywhere from 2/3-3/4 Russian

leafs drafted leivo 86th overall, 32 goals and 41 assists for 73 pts, whats your point regarding catenaccia or however you spell it. we got a guy who puts up the same numbers but 10 spots later. or was he a mistake too?
- matt1337

Daniel Catenacci is the greatest player of all time. Although he is 81st in OHL playoff scoring, he is first according to U_G. The official OHL website must be wrong.

Nope, Leivo was a good pick. But he's a winger. Leafs are short on centers.

It expires this summer. Or at least that's what RSN/TSN has said before.
- Unholy_Goalie

That's convenient fo CGY. If they want to maximize his value, along with Jarome's then this is the time.

If they don't seize this moment they're adding another 3-4 years to their rebuild, and that's being optimistic, as I don't think they have the cupboards stocked anyhwere near the level they need to be to make a playoff team anytime soon

That was a classic episode of foreshadowing.

Shakespeare himself could not have composed such poetic justice.

I remember Pierre Mcguire telling leaf fans during one of the team Canada games to get excited about Justin Pogge.

- AngryWhiteMale

I can remember a few times Mr. Pierre said that same poop about other players. (frank) I hope he's the next Montreal GM.

Haha.....Pierre also said at the draft in his annoying Mr. Excitement voice that "The Leafs rebuild has started today with Luke Schenn!"

the UFA part is key. as long as it's not long term.

it's senseless to give up assets for an aging tender based on the state of the team now. tampa would be a better fit for kipper.

the leafs either need to ride the FA market as a stop gap, or find a way to trade for a schneider, rask, lindback type.. without overpaying.

- joel878

Unless the 'nucks win the cup with Luongo I think they part ways this summer and he accepts a trade to TBay. Thomas and Kipper probably demand new jobs on good teams like chicago and detroit ...maybe kipper finds his way back to sjose.

I don't see how BB gets his goalie. My best guess is he ends up with somebody's leftovers ...maybe Corey Crawford if Chicago gets an upgrade.

The general consensus is that Columbus is gun shy for another Russian draft pick which may have them select a North American defenseman. That would be the only luck for Toronto now.
- stevecarpetman

I just don't see the logic, a Dman isn't really in the cards for them.

Maybe if they packaged both Nash AND their 2nd overall they could go absolutley balls to the wall, but I'm not sure who out there has the assets and the desire to match that package

still think vancouver is running in the tail end of the desperate win now phase, and they'll go forward with luongo. that's not to say they'll part with schneider, but i think there's a better chance of that happening this summer than luongo.

darkhorse? anders lindback. rinne signed long term, team up and coming. lindback is an asset they can use..

Yep. It'll be the goalie version of Tim Connolly. Ick, I need to take a shower after typing that.

you know the funny thing? leivo wasnt even expected to be a 3rd rounder, such as devane. yet he complains about us taking devane over foligno when devane wasnt expected to be a 3rd (don't like devane, only a 4th liner in my opinion). just a funny tidbit
