i think burke said it all today when he said " i am not a patient person" mmmmm seems like a good trait for a GM...
- tangocash001

Burke's presser today was another damning evidence of how much crap he is filled with. He was all over the map with this idiotic comments. He looked like a salesman going door to door trying to sell knives and his sales pitch was twice as bad.

He says he wants to build a championship team, not just get into 8th and get his ass kicked. Then why the hell did you sign Connolly, Armstrong and Komisarek? But reminded everybody that he didn't want to do a five year plan. Now he's trying to preach that he has "championship building blocks" in Kessel, Lupul, Gardiner and Phaneuf. I wonder what he would have said if they held onto 8th place. I bet you he wouldn't be saying "We made 8th and now we're going to get our ass kicked". He'd probably be saying the good ole "anything can happen in the playoffs".

Burke is pissing and moaning about how his team isn't tough enough because of Ron Wilson and yet that he believed in him as a coach. Keep in mind that Burke was also preaching being a big, tough team while still maintaining that Kessel is part of a championship team. Which one is it Burke? Big and tough or soft and weak?

The best part about it was how he capped it off. He said he was born impatient and that he'll die impatient. He says he wants to build a championship team but refused to trade guys like MacArthur for a 1st round pick because "it might take 3 years for that player to develop". Here's a news flash for you Burke; building championship teams TAKE TIME AND PATIENCE two things you CLEARLY do not have.

Hurry up and get fired you idiot. Your time is up.

I always like the comment about not just making the playoffs, but making it to actually compete. Yet he said at the deadline this team is capable of making the playoffs.

You think we'll be fine with yoga pants in the Leafs thread? After the crying that went down when Flyer mods banned in Montreal threads I can't see a Montreal mod having the nerve to do the same here.

Cause by all accounts Murray is the best dman.

Murray ranked #2

Dumba ranked #11

I like how he REFUSES to do a five year, Pittsburgh model rebuild but also refuses to make the playoffs in 8th to get his ass kicked. Well Burke, what's left to do? Keep finishing 26th or instantly finish 1st overall?

Burke has officially run out of bullcrap. He has nowhere left to turn because he has dug his hole so damn deep.

Now Burke is going to get bigger. Great. I'm sure things will improve immediately. Especially when their PK has to deal with twice as many penalties. The Bruins play tough but they have the defense and the goalie to kill the penalties they take. You know, the defense and the goalie YOU FAILED TO GET BURKE.

right there. thats what i dont get about burke. how about build the team you see will win, no dictate a team thats soft just cause a coach likes it. if you and the coaches vision doesnt match, he shouldnt be your coach in the first places. when he came here he should have fired wilson if wilson wanted to play a style burke didnt. then get the pieces you need for the new coach. i can't wait to see what burke does with our 'assets' that we so called have. they better not deal kadri, ross, biggs, frattin, ashton and mckegg. dont see colborne fitting in here (sure hes big but hes soft), might as well use him as an asset. i hope they deal macarthur.

Pittsburgh got over a 100 points this year with Crosby missing most of it, how can you even say that?
- LeftCoaster

They also got another top 5 player in the NHL with the second overall.

Pit may not be ONLY about sid and Malkin, but its a huge part.

I'd also be curious to see what the record this year without crosby was. Are they really a 100 point team with him out?

Some people have made good points about the "Pittsburgh model" comments Burke made and how they've had alot of success this year while Crosby was injured. Fair enough, but what people are forgetting is that PITT (and teams like DET, PHI, VAN, etc.) have established a culture of winning, an organizational-wide confidence that makes teams resilient to seemingly catastrophic losses like Crosby's concussions:

- the front office is confident in their ability to draft, to make the right roster moves, to negotiate the right contract prices because they have established a culture of winning.

- the players in turn want to resign with teams that have built a culture of winning because they... wait for it... want to play for a team that gives them the best chance of winning and success.

- the draftees and rookies learn what it takes to... steady... steady... be a winner in the NHL.

- the coaching staff stick around to nurture and develop their systems because they're not afraid of getting canned; the players in turn adopt said systems because the systems have proven to work.

- the team can dig itself out of holes and win seemingly lost games because they have the confidence in themselves to do so; losing streaks turn into winning streaks because of... you guessed it, winning.

Sounds simple? Well, it really is, but Toronto isn't there yet. We don't have a culture of winning in this city. We had it -- we had years of playoff success (if no cup) but because the team was terribly mismanaged for years under Quinn and JFJ, all that winning culture was squandered.

Fast forward to today, and well, Burke's not making it any easier on himself. If Wilson and himself always saw the team in the different light, then why did he hire him? It makes him look inconsistent and we have a soft, run-and-gun team that needs to make a paradigm shift in personnel and mindset to become the defensive first, net-out, truculent team that Burke (and the fans) have always wanted.
