i may be alone on this, but i'd rather see the caps get the eight seed. nothing against the sabres, i just think washington has a better shot at knocking off the rags
- FlyerMike18

To be honest, as long a Florida doesnt drop to that 8th seed, its going to be tough for NYR. Buffalo has Miller, and NYR isnt the best scoring team... and Washinton has a history of killing ranger dreams... Wouldnt it be great if the 8th seed won, and IF boston wins we still wouldnt have to face them?

You're probably right I just think with Miller and the grinding style that Buffalo plays it would be a heckuva battle.
- JoeRussomanno

i just wouldn't be suprised if the caps somehow went on a little tear this year. they choke every other year under the weight of big expectations, maybe this year they get hot when no one expects them to. they are a talented bunch

it's a real long shot that either can beat the rags anyway

I tend to agree. Expecially with Backstrom coming back, that could give them a big spark. Also not sure about the health of Myers, huge loss for Buffalo. Washington competes well with New York.

I think Ryan Miller alone gives the Sabres a better chance.

My darkhorse out west is chicago. They're a lot like the Flyers where they need to avoid the tight checking of LAK and Nashville, they match up well with Van and Det.

I dont think so... I still dont think the Rangers are as good as they seem. Once people start playing playoffs hockey against thier top line, their secondary scoring is going to crumble... Buffalo would do this best as Miller would Cancel out Lundquist, but Ovechkin could also be a game changer if he takes Washington on his back...

But I dont like Washington's chances if they are the 8th seed going deep... They would most likely have to beat NYR, Boston, then the winner of the Penguins/Flyers series.... that is a tough road to the cup....

just curios, why do you think the caps would be tougher? it's not an opinion I'm willing to fight tooth or nail over so if you can make a good case I'm all ears.
- JoeRussomanno

on top of what i wrote above about expectations, i think that the caps are arguably more talented than the rags in at least one area (scoring forwards), even if they haven't been this year

the sabres imo aren't better than the rags in any area. both teams' strength is in net, and hank is just better than miller. not a slight against miller, but lundqvist is the best in the world. i just have a hard time seeing how buffalo gains any kind of edge in the series, short of a total NY choke. at least backstrom, ovie, and semin could catch fire for the caps. they are really talented

buffalo would likely be a tougher physical opponent, however, so maybe that would pay dividends for rags opponents in later rounds

Yeah I'm ok with that....btw I'm already sensing dissention in the room as a certain member indicated you should warm the Shelley seat. Far cry from the top line!

Yea I can see where you're coming from. I just think beating the rags is gonna be about out-grinding them. I saw someone write in here the other day about how the Flyers system plays right into the rags hands and I think there's some truth to that. The Rags do play a patient opportunistic style that kills teams imo like the Flyers and Caps.

After reading what you wrote I do feel better about the caps beating them, just hope they get their situation in net straightened out or is Vokoun healthy now, I have to check.

rubbish.

i am fine moving off the top line though. I'm more of a defensive winger anyway... or a solid dman with good vision.

miller is the man so maybe you're right

i just think any team that beats the rags is gonna have to gain an advantage in a position other than goal. i think that's more likely with washington. obv though they are gonna have to find some way to keep pucks out of the net, but if dwayne roloson has taught us anything, it's that goalies can get hot for the playoffs

I think your right that Buffalo doesn't do 1 thing better then NYR, but I think Buffalo is set up better to exploit NYR's weakness... offense. So IMO it would come down to who can win a game 2-1 or 1-0... and Buffalo is capable of doing that...

Washington would have to score at least 3 a game to win, and I think they would have a harder time doing that, then Buffalo would of holding the rangers to 1 or less....
