Scrivens:---02W-04L-1OTL--.904sv%

Schneider: 34W-16L-4OTL--.928sv%
Markstrom: 02W-05L-1OTL--.919sv%
So what does this tell us?
At the AHL level, the Leafs goalies were all on top...
The only one that has succeeded consistently at the NHL level is Schnieder, and that may or may not (Sarcasm) have a little (a lot) to do with the fact that he is playing a Stanley Cup contending team.
Bernier has shown no more that the Leaf's goalies, same goes with Markstrom.
Perhaps if we play some decent hockey in front of our tendies, we will actually be able to see them for what they are.. NHL caliber goaltenders..
But as usual this will fall on deaf ears - mfreedman

not so true.. boston won the cup primarily with guys drafted outside the top 5
you could argue seguin but other than a couple good games he wasnt the reason they won the cup, thomas was.. who was a 9th round draft pick of the nordiques - Dozzer

come on now.. i'd have to say it was the fact that the canucks only scored 3 goals in the last four games.. thats not luongo's fault |

There is something else very evident in that list of AHL stats for the goalies.
Look how many games Bernier and Schneider put in before coming to the NHL.
A lot more than Reimer and Gus.

Hard to put the puck in the other teams net when it spends most of the time inside your net.

Yea Boston was the exception to the rule in every aspect. In my opinion, the Canucks should have won that series (as much as I hate the Nucks) but the NHL decided to start calling the game different in the finals than they did all year to give the Bruins an advantage and let their toughness really play a massive factor. So yeah they beat their way to the stanley cup.
In any event, let's overlook that aberration
Hawks, Towes, Kane, Keith etc
Pens, Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, Staal
Ducks, Getzlaf, Perry
Hurricanes, Eric Staal
Lightening, Richards, Lecavillier
Devils, Scott Neidermeyer, Stevens
I'll still go with the numbers, not the aberration of what breeds stanley cup winners. |

Boston is a well built machine. Even without Seguin you would still have Kessel there who probably would have already cracked 40 goals by now.
Chiarelli done good.

You can't pick an exception to the rule and present that as a counter argument.
All teams that have won the cup in the past 5 years and probably even further back have done so on top 5 draft picks. Blackhawks, Penguins, Ducks. Name me a team that has won the cup with this "rebuild on the fly" mentality. All it's gonna do is guarantee our mediocrity for years to come. We still have 0 franchise players to build around after 4 years of Burke. We have some decent prospects and good younger guys but still, you need the Getzlafs, you need the Crosbys, you need the Towes. You don't get those by trading them away. You know w ho our Crosby, Towes and Getzlaf was suppose to be? Tyler Seguin and what did we do?
Gave him away for a complimentary goal scorer.
Awesome - Sheppy99
the Leafs beginning in 1981 drafted no lower than 7th for 9 consecutive years. Including a First overall pick, and two 3rd overall picks.
The draft is no guaranttee

lol i wont argue that the odds of success seem to go hand in hand with high draft picks
however.. i wont ever buy into the conspiracy theories about the cup final reffing.. thats absurd.. thomas stoned them cold... anytime someone mentions favoritism reffing i just laugh.. |

One thing I can say about BB is he's traded well to the point where GM's are prob cautious now when dealing with him....his UFA's are defenitely questionable in hindsight though some are stop-gaps until the blueprint rebuild shows season-long positive results....which they haven't......yet........Colby is the most surprising UFA signing failure...who'da known...I thought at the time he would be the truculent forward face of the Leafs - JIMI-JAMES
His face is most definitely truculent though with that nose leading the way.

I'm sure we would have no problems landing Alex Daigle and Patrik Stefan to long term deals.
That gives us 2 bonafide 1st rounders to lead the way for years to come.

Tim Tebow trade may not go thru.
Some language in his contract preventing league approval.
Maybe Jesus needs to provide a list of 5 teams that Tebow can get traded to.

Let's break this down for you...
1) Ron Wilson had a poopty non-maintanable system in place when he arrived
2) The system (or lack thereof) blew up, as was expected, and ended with his termination after a gigantic losing streak that saw our team knocked out of playoff position
3) Carlyle was hired, and all those players that had gotten in good with Wilson, now had to start again trying to get into his good books
4) The team was struggling to try and implement the system right off the bat (as is expected when completely changing styles) and continued to lose
5) All playoff aspirations are gone now, and the team has realized that they are playing for the golf course right now
I agree that they should still be motivated to play their asses off and try and win a couple, but can you not understand why we are losing?
We have a better team than what is shown, the problem was just that they needed more time with Carlyle earlier.
All in all it isn't working out too badly, as Carlyle is now able to get a good feel for his team for next year, and on top of that we may have a chance at ending up with a lottery pick..
I understand Leaf fans are frustrated right now. It is hard not to be given the playoff drought, but dont make the mistake now of trying to ship out all the players who have been underacheiving for the past 3 months, in order to try and grasp at the last playoff spot next year.
Let the players play, and let the coach do his job. We are on the right track, just relax everyone. - mfreedman
Really? You seriously believe this?
On another note, did anyone hear Brian Hayes on TSN air the video sent out by the Leafs to their season ticket holders asking them to renew? Burke is on there saying the team has had 'a season of ups and downs', no mention whatsoever of the playoffs, and then he says 'I'm really looking forward to the winter classic'. LOL. Burke is absolutely shameless. |

That's not fair, I think Jesus would write down 1 team, whoever is going to win the cup. |
