Jesus, are you serious?
Kessel is a complementary sniper? He's going to score 40 (frank)ing goals. But he's only complementary? He's a franchise forward. Look at the NHL stats.
Phaneuf has been inconsistant in the past two months, I agree. I'm ready to throw him out of the door because of it. He had been great since he first got to TO. - thomas81

Franchise forwards are guys you construct an entire team around. Kessel isn't that. |

Could have fooled me. Habs fans have been cheering for their team to lose since December.
That, my friend, is making a complete fool out of yourself. Why even cheer at all? - thomas81

who cares where he is raniked on the leafs?
there are teams in the NHL reimer wouldnt even make as a backup.
you are twisting your argument to validate it. - Dozzer
You're going to base this on what, 20 games?
He was great last year and was solid before he was seriously injured. You don't think he can bounce back next season? Boy oh boy do you guys give up on players fast. Schenn, Reimer, Kadri... Who else can we trade for next to nothing in the summer? |

I think people stealing a little girl's bike from the back yard is pretty pathetic. Even more so than hoping your team has a proper rebuild. - weirdoh

he doesnt make the guys around him better.. save for the small sample at the top of bozak's career.. even when wilson removed lupul from the line lupul kept going
he's complimentary.. he doesnt elevate a line on his own.. a core guy can and will do that.
i agree he is a top tier sniper.. but that doesnt mean he is a core piece. - Dozzer
I disagree there. Kessel does make the guys around him better. He knows what he is doing in the offensive zone, he makes many great passes. Phaneuf's goal in Ottawa a great example of Kessel's vision.
Also, who the hell was Lupul before this season. Kessel set him up just as much as Lupul set Kessel up for goals.
Kessel is pretty dangerous offensively.

Yet, he needs to sign or become a FA just like Blake Wheeler did to the Yotes |

You are nuts man. I'm a big leaf fan but it's people like you that drive other fans crazy. Kessel is not a franchise player and nor is he paid like one. He is a great complimentary player to a franchise player the Leafs don't have. |

I remember watching these guys on that run in 93 with my dad. He told me after 26 years this team is finally turning it around. Ballard ran this team into the ground and finally they are starting to dig themselves out. My dad is (frank)ing liar. |

Does anyone here really think Burke will keep this years 1st rounder? (unless its top 3 maybe) The media is calling for his head already. He's going to have to make drastic moves to improve the team now. Not saying I agree with this but it's just the way it is. - PootieTang
I think giving up two for Kessel was enough, if history shows anything he will more than likely try to move up in the draft then give it away. As I mentioned earlier trading with the Oilers could be possible, as they could land their D man still and have one step in to the NHL right away from the Leafs, plus another pick later on. They really don't need another forward, and if they did I think Gaunce would be more to what they want up there. |

sorry man.. i can defeat your argument by simply stating that it takes scouts about 30-40 games to pin point a goalies weakness
once the scouts figured out that he had a weak glove hand and that he doesnt move side to side all that well he's been owned.
the only thing that has changed in his game since the injury is the simple fact that he sets himself up a little deeper in his crease now.. making things even worse |

No. I'm just joking.
40 goals scorers can be had for next to nothing and are easy to draft. If we can trade him for a 2nd rounder or a B-level prospect, we should. |

You're right. Acquiring an actual (not potential like Kessel) 40 goal scorer like Jason Blake would require a huge package of young roster players, picks and prospects. Probably too much to be worth it really. |

absurd.. sure he has playmaking abilities but to build a team around the guy is just plain stupid
and you dismiss lupul before kessel?
it wouldnt have to do with him playing a wing he was more comfortable with?
or him being finally healthy after two injury plagued seasons?
no no.. wouldnt have anything to do with that at all. |

Just like Andreychuck was the compliment to our franchise player Gilmour.
The sooner people realize that, and we get that franchise player we will be better off

But you don't think he can work on all of that in the summer and get back to that level?
It's basically a wash. Throw another young player out the door based a poor second half season by the whole team. |
