Agreed. That's the only thing they should trade him for, considering they can get that top six winger in the summer.

If that happens O'Reilly is still a 3rd line center. And I actually maintain that he is still a 3rd line center. (On our team) While yes Duchene is having a rough year between inconsistent positioning and injury. O'Reilly has 50 points.. not 60 or 65 in 66 games. Yes he has been our best and most consistent center this year.

But.. Those are not first line center numbers. Our other two centers have 67 and 70+ point seasons. O'Reilly is 3rd when it comes to offensive production. (Except this year) I am guessing he finishes somewhere near 60 points for the year. That is second line center numbers. (On pace for 62 points)

While all that sounds a little harsh.. I think everyone is jumping the gun a little thinking he should supplant one of the other two.

So for everyone who thinks we should trade Stastny because O'Reilly is producing. What happens when O'Reilly produces around the same or a little less next year, and after being traded and given consistent line mates. One of our centers is putting up 70 point seasons again. Or Duchene puts up 50 instead of 70.. Then you have 60/50 again..

I would be happy with 70/60/50 next year when hopefully all 3 are playing with a solid group of wingers. That happens we make the post season for sure. 60/50/35.. Not so sure. That is what this year is looking like with Duchene missing a major part of the season.

The good thing is with all three.. If one goes down for a significant amount of time. We still have a chance. Without Stastny this year we would of been in the basement. We don't have anyone else who is going to put up 50+ points a year besides Duchene and he was injured. It's called depth..

As long as O'reilly plays with Gabe I dont see his point totals going down. Also If duchene has another 50 point season then the Avs need to realize that there is a problem that needs to be adressed, whether getting him new line mates or changing their style ect. Duchene is the Avs and we need him to do well no matter what.

Also we have depth in Hishon and Sgarbossa now. hishon is even more reason stastny is expendable.

Once Hishon or Sgrabossa plays on the Avs roster during a regular season game and produces. Yes.. Until then.. No..

Or at least one or BOTH have a productive AHL season.

Our AHL team could be sick next year between Connolly, Sgrabossa, Hishon, Barrie, Gaunce, Siemens, and Pickard..

We actually are debating him a little.. I think he has top 6 power forward potential. Others Think he is a 3rd line guy even in the future.
- Steve-B

He is still adjusting and finding some line mates to play him with. He looked very good tonight with stastny and Jones. He is starting to pick up his physical play but if he stays parked around the net he will be great.

What did you think about losing Sgarbossa ?

- Meeqsb

Why ask this question and then not respond? I am curious as to how much potential Sharks fans think McGinn has..
- Steve-B

Sorry for having a life? Seriously though, I don't as much time to check hockeybuzz as I used to, but I genuinely wanted to know what you guys thought of him. I think he could be a 2nd liner in the future, I don't know about top line guy though. He is very good at a checking role though, and brings some added scoring.

As for Sgarbossa, it felt like a minor version of losing Coyle over the summer...but if Winnik and Galiardi continue playing like they are, I think I can live with it.

well Hishon is out and has been for a while and i havint heard anything about him coming back soon! and there both very small centers with skill the chance of hishon getting hit again and more concussion problems is high! i think anyway!

i think we keep stastny for a couple more years like you said, after this contract is up they need to get him on a cheeper one tho! maybe 2 year 8mil.

Downie has a good chance to make the lineup tonight, He practiced today with the team. Olver is being moved to Duchene's line. (Per Sacco)

The lines tonight could look like:

Landeskog - O'Reilly - Downie (It's a lock if Downie is cleared)

Olver - Duchene - Mueller (The Coach says so)

McGinn - Stastny - Jones (Same line as last game)

McLeod - Jay - Hejduk (Hejduk did not do anything last night that warranted moving back up. This is hard to see but at the same time. It's good to see. I am sure everyone wants Hejduk to do well but I like that the team and not one guy is more important down the stretch here.)

Really? I didn't think that but they stand out because one is an All-Star and two have the potential to be.
