really hoping my adam burt signature will be worth something some day.

Well it took Domi plus a friend to take big Burt down back a few years IIRC so that's gotta stand for something

Flyers seem to have had a bunch of players like that... guys who were destined to be great but fizzled out. List includes: Pavel Brindl, Pat Falloon, Jiri Dopita, Jody Shelley, Alex Daigle, Ryan Sittler
- jak521

Brendl, Falloon and Daigle were all lazy and unmotivated players. The Flyers rolled the dice on trying to unlock their potential. They actually succeeded for a little while with Falloon immediately after bringing him over from San Jose, but he soon fell back in old patterns.

Dopita came over only because his Czech team had gone bankrupt (after six straight championships), the Flyers offered him a contract he couldn't refuse and he was good friends and longtime teammates with Cechmanek. Dopita was also 32 years old by that point and didn't really have the desire to acclimate himself to the North American game. He wasn't a liability, but just didn't make anything close to the hoped-for impact after being a dominant international player for so many years.

Sittler simply never developed. A serious eye injury and a prematurely arthritic knee probably had a lot to do with it, along with the pressures of being a Hall of Famers son trying to break in with one of his dad's former teams.

People can do as they wish. I'm not one who throws out ridiculous trade proposals and such, but if people want to do that, it's their right.
- PLindbergh31

Not pointing the finger at you, though you do seem to enjoy throwing fuel on the fire more than extinguishing them LOL.

And true, people have the right to do whatever the hell the want, so long as they don't infringe on someone else's freedom. However, it's tiresome when people are so shortsighted and stupid that sometimes it's impossible to have a legitimate discussion about anything.

He played at that level two seasons ago -- and it was not merely a "system thing". Phoenix still had plenty of breakdowns that first year under Tippett, but Bryzgalov played out of his mind until they realized they could make the playoffs and brought it a little more help. He was less consistently good last year (although the stats were comparable).
- bmeltzer

So is it the pressure of playing in "hockey town" Philly that is giving him a hard time?

when I was a kid i'd wait for signatures and the guys would always take time after the game. I'd never think to bother them beforehand. I have run into them at times in hotels and found them very ice for the most part.
- nastyflyergirl

I got what the feeling was. I had no expectations, as these other fans did. When Is show up half of the team were already in the Joe Louis Arena. I waited a bit, then Rinaldo and Sestito show up in a cab (One fan was asking if either guy was Giroux, which is INSANE to me). Moments later the Bus showed up. Giroux, Simmonds, Jagr, Bryz, Carle, Burdon and Homer walked off it. Jagr looked up, smiled and gave a wave.

I got his autograph. Being a Christian, I asked him to sign my pocket bible. He turns to my sister, who was wearing her John Leclair jersey, and he asks, "Was the store all out of Burt jerseys?"

I believe the argument the first few months was to put him with briereto try and get them both going. I don't think hartnell saw any time with briere early on.
- funmaster18

You are correct. The worry wasn't so much of how JvR started the season but how useless to the team Hartnell was on the 3rd line with 2 rookies. The moment Hartnell played with Jagr and Giroux, that changed everything for Hartnell himself.

Well Gents, it's game day!!!! Feels like an eternity since Saturday. This trip will be good for the team. Get Rinaldo back. Get away from us lunatic fans. Get the Bryz playing against some familiar teams again. I feel good today. I can't wait to see how physical this D can now be. Bryz is gonna take off. I feel it. Where's GGunky? Gives us another Bryz chant!!!! Like those lines too!

All im saying is hes not an "elite" goalie in the NHL. He is the tier below it no matter what the expectations are. If you think he is Lundqvist, Rinne, Fluery you bought a fake product. He is a good goalie but not on that level, imo.
- stveshdy

Ok, so if he's not on the level with the Lundqvist's, Rinne's and Fleury's, you have him on the next tier with Tim Thomas, Jonathan Quick, and Jimmy Howard, Cam Ward, and that group?

Flyers are still reeling from giving up Martin Spanhel as part of the Falloon deal.

That could be part of it. I also think a lot of the pressure is self-imposed. In addition, Bryzgalov and Jeff Reese have a relationship that is a work in progress (which is not to say they can't work together or that one guy is right and the other is wrong -- just that it's been an adjustment from what both were used to before).

I don't think it matters where people group him, all that matters is he starts play better. I think this road trip will be good.

Huh? JvR was out for like 3 weeks wasn't he?

Wasn't he out the entire time Briere was out and more?

- Flyers2821

Last Wednesday, Holmgren says he's out indefinitely, and then dressed three days later. Indefinitely means more than three days later.

Good point. I find it weird that Bob is like 6 foot but seems so small in the net. Seems he doesn't come out enough to challenge the shooters. Bryz seems to be falling into that pattern. That 5 on 4 goal, It seemed he should have been out more on top of his crease to take away that angle in which the goal was scored. Seems it's more positioning and confidence than ability.

the exact reason why I want to punch the WIP people in the face....namely Mike and Ike. Barkan just got done saying how its sounds like Kubina doesn't want to be here with his comments in TB after the trade. Do you do your job at all?????? he expressed sadness about leaving TB, the city he played for approx 10 years. He also said here that he would like to sign and stay if management wants that. god they piss me the hell off

Indefinitely means Unspecified, meaning, could return at anytime.
- funmaster18

I would think indefinitely would mean more than three days. If he were that close to playing I would think he'd be listed day-to-day as opposed to indefinitely. I saw that he was practicing, but with a non-contact jersey, and it was reported that there was no change to how he felt with the concussion symptions, which would tell me he couldn't be cleared to play. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad he's back playing, it just seemed odd.

Carchidi is a prince compared to Panaccio. Always thought he managed to always pick out the negatives, even after wins, as the beat guy. On his board I called him out about the things he said about Steve Downey. I told him that unless he had a psychologist's shingle he should be careful about expressing opinion's about a players mental health. That got me a warning from the referee. I never went back to his board. Who needs it. Last year he did a hatchet job on Zherdev before he ever put the Flyers sweater. I'm not necessarily a fan of Downey or Zherdev, they're big boys and don't need me defending them but it bugs me to see the media who are supposed to be objective and responsible assassinate a player's character. Clarkie was right about Panaccio. It's unfortunate that he's hooked up with comcast.
