Morning all,

I've got an interesting Flyers related story from my weekend at a work conference in Quebec City.

Was there with other military people from accross Canada.. ran into one of my buddies who is a Detroit fan and knows I'm a Flyers fan. Saturday morning, he says, "I am gonna make your day.. come meet this guy who works at my unit".. I was like WTF? I go over, and meet a fella wearing a nametag which says Read. He says, this is Matt Read's dad.. I was blown away..small world. We got to talking about Matt and how great this year has been..told him congrats. We starting chatting about the team's play osf late, how Matt was being used in games etc.. He could tell that I am a die hard fan. I say to him, I am going to see them on the March 17th game in Boston. He tells me, some of Matt's family are going to that game and that he can ask Matt to sign me in to meet he and some of the players if I want. I was like YOU'D DO THAT FOR ME? He laughed and said it's no issue. Matt likes doing stuff like that. I told him that if it wasn't a bother that it would mean a lot to me and my GF..(more to me LOL). We exchanged info and he said he'll give me the deets to make it happen.

Also, after the Saturday debalce and the Kubina trade, we spoke again and discussed the issues the team was having etc. He said he had been emailing back and forth with Matt all eveing and morning discussing where he is positioned on the PP.. Such a small world. His father seemed to be a genuinely nice man who is soo proud of his son. I think it is so kind of him to offer to help a HUGE fan of the team his son plays for. Any of you who saw me at buzzgate a few years back know that I am still on cloud 9..because I think I may get to meet a few of the players.. I am crazy psyched!!! Pray it all works out.,

PS: happy with the two moves on D Homer made.. but it takes a back seat to this!!!

That's a great story. Awesome to see that not only is Read a good guy, but his family seems to be good folks, too.

WIP destroyed Bryz, for comments he made at the Flyers Wives Carnival, and JvR, for coming to his goalies' defense, this morning. What a complete lack of class WIP showed. Especially considering we don't even know if Bryz ever really made those "you care too much" comments to a fan.
- Dkos

Didn't hear that, but hope Bryz didn't say anything of the like.. He needs to keep quiet, ignore the media and focus. I say he should call Silent Bob Esche and get some advice.

I'm still on cloud 9 over this and I hope it works out cause I'd really like to meet some of the Flyers for autographs and I rarely have a chance because I'm not from the area.

Apparently Matt's dad and a lot of their family are from Prince Edward Island which is adjacent to my province, but they moved around a lot cause his dad was military (Matt's a military brat we call cause they move so much). Boston is a convenient place to go see him play as it's closest.

His dad is definitely ery proud of his son. I asked, but he said he wasn't able to make it for the fathers trip, but hopes to do so next year.

Also told me a story about Homer calling his house frequently when we were trying to sign him. Matt was staying there for a bit or whatever and I can jsut imagine the conversations.. " Matt.. it's Homer again.. put down the damn PS3 congtroller and answer the phone!! " hahah..There were apparently 6 teams in on signing him, and he picked the Flyers..thank God.

Not a good reference. We all know Skynyrd's fate. They crashed and burned. We are hoping Bryzgalov doesn't do the same.

Seriously though, I'm not even convinced Bryzgalov will play tonight, if he doesn't it's a terrible sign, as Bobrovsky has melted down like Chernobyl the last three weeks.

I can understand Bryz feeling that way right now. I hope he can pull himself together and play well again. It's going to be a real mess if he can't.

As far as JvR...I have no problem with what he said.

Thanks Bill. I have a feeling it will. I hope to take a moment to meet Matt, get his autograph and a pic.. and just thank him for taking the time.

I know it's been said, but I find hockey players to be very accomodating to the fans. Friendly etc (met Simon Gagne once and he was very happy to take a moment to chat).

I get the feeling that Matt and his family are very grateful for this opportunity and are more than willing to share their time with fans.

I've been keeping my mouth shut about this whole thing, but I find that (and the Toyota "Bryz" ad on Philly.com's Flyers page) to be completely distasteful.

The Bryzgalov-bashing has reached, well, WIP proportions. It's pathetic, and that unverifiable "story" from the carnival -- which, by the way, would be quite out of character for Bryzgalov because even his biggest detractors would say he certainly is a player who cares -- was a perfect example of the down side of "fan-driven" sports sites on the net, which make things tougher on those who try to stay above board and get 1/10th the attention.

The truth is one's best friend. You're either going to run to it (if you're walking in the light) or flee from it (if you're a liar).

Sifting the lies from the truth is the challenge. Bryz is hopefully shunning the internet and media garbage right now and focusing on hockey. I still recommend the Flyers call Dr. Saul Miller if he's available to get through this.

I know! It was funny cause my buddy the Detroit fan said my eyes just lit up.. I went on a rant for like 5 mins about how I almost bought a read jersey the other day (true) cause I like his game, and his dad just calmly discussed the team with me.. haha..

He was accomodating and offered to help me without any hesitation.

They crushed Bryz all morning long. I guess some people feel its more important to destroy the player than to support him. Did you also hear them talking about how he and Lavi dont get along bc Lavi demands alot from his players? Is that not what most coaches do?

Can't wait to see how this defense plays, and more importantly, how Bryz plays behind this defense. Bryz was on a roll for a while before the Penguins game, I hope he can recover. No excuses anymore. We have a veteran blue line, capable of playing shut down hockey 1-6. The new season starts today.

Wow, didn't see that Toyota ad.

It might carry some weight if someone like you could call in to that show and point out how irresponsible it is to report something that may not be the truth and that a comment like that would be out of character for Bryz. At least Phil Sheridan mentioned that JvR is a good kid and just trying to suport his teammate.

I don't understand why people listen to that station. The little I have heard of it is comically bad. It's sensationalistic radio. The hosts aren't very knowledgeable, and all they do is try and create drama.

That being said, any major market in any sport, key players performance are going to be highly scrutinized. Bryzgalov has mainly put all this negative reaction and coverage upon himself by his woefully inadequate play. If he was performing at a high level, know one would care what he says, does, or anything else. If the goalie, QB, top of the rotation pitcher doesn't perform he's going to get slaughtered by the masses. That's the way things go.

I plan on calling in this afternoon. Im tired of the hack job this cities media (and i used that term loosely) does in all 4 sports, and worst of all in Hockey.

I saw the other day in an article (cant remember if it was Philly.com or not) that was talking about the Kubina move. It said in there that Tampa Bay also traded another D-man... Dominic Moore to SJ
