What is that, the Ottawa walk of fame? It looks like it's in front of a strip mall.

Erik Karlsson was honoured yesterday with the "Star of Vetlanda" in his hometown in Sweden.

The Senators entered play on Monday with 39 points in 32 games, putting them on a pace for 100 points over an 82-game season. They have built themselves a six-point cushion in the playoff race, which is not insignificant at this point in the season. Barring a pretty big second half failure, they are in a strong position to make the playoffs.

I think this is a pretty solid type if assessment. Very few teams can match Ottawa at 3 on 3. It is all about Karlsson

Nice Feature on TSN last night between periods, showing how dynamic Karlsson is a player.

Yes, I've noticed that they very often point out the basic things that all dmen do, as amazing positives for Karlsson.

I remember once during a Leafs v Senators game, they were gushing about how he banked the puck out of the defensive zone, to nobody in particular, and under very little pressure.

It certainly was interesting.

methinks you're tad bit jealous of Ottawa's elite, two time Norris winning D man, otherwise why would you continuously try to down play his acknowledged (by the hockey world) "eliteness".

It’s a game of mistakes. Something’s going to go wrong out there and that goes for every player, but the amount of things Karlsson does right and the amount of things he does to impact his team in a positive way is ideal. That is just such an easy thing to say about someone that’s putting up offensive numbers, but when you watch him play on a regular basis, everything he does is what any team wants a defenseman to do.”
Former NHL defenseman Brian Leetch

Karlsson, the best defenceman in the league this season, is at the forefront of a change in his position. Increasingly, defencemen are expected to be mobile, capable with the puck and able both to support the attack and to keep the opposition from even entering the defensive zone. These are the qualities which make a defenceman elite; increasingly, they’re also the qualities necessary even just for continued NHL employment.

Boston Bruins great Bobby Orr, March 17th, 2012

I watch the Senators often, I see a lot (in Karlsson), the way this kid skates, There’s nothing like a powerful skater. You can go back over the years: Coffey, (Bourque), Potvin ... these guys could motor. They had great speed. This kid has wonderful speed. Great, great hockey sense. He’s not big at all. Two games ago I looked at him and I thought, ‘Holy crap, he looks like a teenager,’ or maybe it’s me getting old. He’s not a huge kid, but he’s very intelligent and very smart on the ice.

He positions himself well. He’s unbelievable and uncanny with the stick. He pokechecks, he’s got great reach and even just shooting from the point, he gets the puck on the net. All the good teams that have won, they’ve all had that guy on the point: (Nicklas) Lidstrom, (Zdeno) Chara. In the old days with Robinson, Savard, Lapointe, Potvin and Coffey. He’s that kind of player. He is that important to the Senators.

23 goals against at even strength. Much better than previous years but still among the bottom of the league. In front of decent goaltending. Which, is one thing if he was getting deployed in a defensively skewed manner, but offensive zone starts at about the 25% mark (i.e. top quarter of the league), defensive zone starts lower than league average.

Better than in previous years, but still a well below average dman in his own zone.

But you've maintained that Anderson is not a "decent" goaltender ..................... oh wait...................................he's not been playing for the past month, only 19 of the Sens 35 games so far, and will be out of the line up for the foreseeable future......so perhaps it's not because Karlsson is playing in front of "decent goal-tending" ........ there must be another reason you have overlooked, as to why Karlsson is the leading candidate for the Norris????

I've never said Anderson is not a decent goaltender. You can't find one quote of me saying that, guaranteed. He's middle of the road, not bad at all. The downside to Craig Anderson is that he's 35, and doesn't have much left. He has maybe this year, if he's lucky next year, and he's probably done as a starter. Not too many goalies last till they're 37 or 38 years old.

The Sens stand no chance in being a contender in the next few years, so he really is of no use to the Sens. That's the problem.

And who says Karlsson is the leading candidate for the Norris?

I'd give it to Shea Weber rather easily right now.

I often watch the other teams broadcast of Sens games. There are very few people who think like Prock when it comes to Karlsson. But, we love Prock because he always has a different point of view.

Oh yeah, Prock ............ who said that if he were the GM of the leafs, he would NOT take Karlsson for FREE, if he was offered to him .......... and called him nothing but a PP specialist ............

Just a note or two, Brent Burns, the has spent more time this season on the PP than Karlsson, and Karlsson, the "PP specialist" according to prock, has spent almost a half an hour more time than Brent Burns has, on the PK this season ......... and Karlsson has played 3 fewer games................. so tell me, why do people think Brent Burns is so far ahead in the Norris race, than the best Defense man in the NHL?

Is it those three more points, in three more games played???

How does it help your argument to say that Karlson played 30 more minutes in 3 fewer games?

Prock said Karlsson was a "Power Play specialist" and that was one reason he would not take him for free.

Karlsson has spent more time killing penalties, than Brent Burns has this season, and he is being touted as the runaway leader for the Norris.

Burns has spent more time on the PP than Karlsson, so perhaps it's Burns who is the PP specialist?

Karlsson is more than a PP specialist, he is clearly better than Burns in more ways than Burns is better than Karlsson in others.
